Cultural Resources Project Director/Project Manager

Salary Range: $80,000-95,000

Summary: DAWSON is seeking a Cultural Resources Project Manager for the conservation and planning team that is interested in participating in a variety of projects across DAWSON’s services throughout the country. The ideal candidate will work closely with Program Managers to support the development of a Cultural Resources group. The position is remote and will require occasional overnight travel for up to a week at a time. This is a full-time salaried position.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate, consolidate, develop, and maintain cultural resource programmatic documents, policies, and recommendations. Review draft responses to internal and external inquires. Provide updates to leadership and stakeholders by participating in meetings and coordinate, develop, and review associated meeting materials. Develop cultural resources team through winning opportunities. Maintain and analyze cultural resources projects and documents. Collaborate to review and implement cultural resources requirements with federal, state, and local agencies. Provide policy analysis, execution, and cultural resources program management oversight across cultural resources program requirements by conducting security and policy reviews, validating compliance requirements, and evaluating decision processes. Review, monitor, and provide status updates on interagency cultural resources program actions and issues and concerns related to cultural resources compliance to internal stakeholders. This position will require the successful candidate be able to work on multiple small projects concurrently.

Duties include:

  • Successfully manage projects or support projects in the conservation and planning field and adhere to DAWSON’s quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Support preparation for and participation in client meetings, public information meetings, and hearings.
  • Project management tasks for a variety of clients.
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance.
  • Communicate with variety of stakeholders, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients.
  • Support preparation of proposals in accordance with the proposal schedule and budget.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • 8+ of experience of Cultural Resources experience.
  • 2+ years of managing projects and teams to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • 1+ years of experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Able to pass a federal and state background check for project-based assignments.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 10+ years industry experience, preferably with cultural resources consulting to Federal or tribal clients.
  • Strong experience with cultural resources (and cultural resources management), including ability to manage projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workload, as well as interface successfully with clients.
  • Existing, mature, and tested client relationships with an ability to generate new work for the Team, Office, and Company.
  • Familiar with Federal, notably including DoD, and Cultural resources requirements and processes.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.

RGA is seeking Archaeological Technicians for work in all of our office and project locations. This includes project locations throughout the Eastern US with upcoming projects including Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III surveys. There may also be opportunities to work on conservation and cemetery mapping projects as well. A Cultural Resources Project Director position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) to support Joint Region Marianas (JRM) on the Island of Guam. This position shall provide on-site technical support and assistance to the JRM Cultural Resources Manager (CRM) regarding activities related to the Programmatic Agreement between the Commander, Joint Region Marianas and the Guam State Historic Preservation Officer, Regarding Military Training and Testing on and within the Surrounding Waters of the Island of Guam, including research and assessment of potential impacts to cultural resources by military training and testing within the JRM Area of Responsibility (AOR). This is a full-time appointment primarily located on Guam, but the employee may be deployable to other areas within the JRM AOR, which includes nearby islands in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Oversight and management of the Cultural Resources Program support on military lands within JRM AOR is the primary duty for this position. Guam has a substantial military presence consisting of three major military installations – Naval Base Guam, Andersen Air Force Base, and Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz. Each year major military training exercises are conducted within the JRM AOR where large quantities of military equipment and other materials are transported into Guam and the CNMI.

The Cultural Resources Project Director will provide leadership and oversight of up to five (5) full-time CEMML staff, including archaeologists, GIS specialists, and technicians. Working closely with the JRM Cooperative Agreement Technical Representative (CATR), the Cultural Resources Project Director will direct and coordinate execution of tasks in accordance with the terms of the Cooperative Agreement between CEMML and JRM Cultural Resources Group.

This position includes a combination of office and field activities, including field and subject matter expertise and methodologies, team supervision and training, reporting and documentation, communication and coordination with CEMML team and DoD sponsor, fieldwork supervision, consultation and coordination with SHPO, and project planning and project schedule and timelines.

This position will be responsible for oversight and management of CEMML staff, project budget and expenditures, coordinating with CEMML Principal Investigator and JRM CATR to develop project goals, objectives, and timelines, as well as generating and reviewing deliverables in compliance with the Cooperative Agreement Scope of Work and professional standards.

Responsibilities also include execution and oversight of all cultural resources support tasks, including but not limited to, documenting, monitoring, and protecting cultural resources; preparing information and analysis in compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other historic preservation and environmental laws; assessing state of cultural resource collections; participating in historical research efforts; and preparing and distributing material and assisting with consultation efforts. In planning and execution of all tasks, the Cultural Resources Project Director will work closely, and in collaboration with, the JRM CATR.

The Principal Investigator will be responsible for the following:

  • Completing initial project review for requests from clients and project managers.
  • Performing pedestrian walkover survey, controlled surface survey, and hand excavation (shovel testing), oftentimes solo.

Pine Country RC&D, in coordination with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) personnel is seeking an archaeologist to serve in SE Georgia. The archaeologists will be based out of Pine Country’s RC&D office in Soperton (near Macon; Vidalia; Statesboro).

This is a field position that works collaboratively with the NRCS state technical staff (in Athens) for the consultation process (Section 106). The selectee will serve as an Affiliate (contract) Archaeologist for Area 4 (Georgia’s SE Counties) and will be responsible for assistance to field personnel and resource technical teams for conservation, protection, and enhancement of cultural resources, that include Indigenous and Historic resources, encountered in all NRCS programs and activities. The selectee’s primary responsibility is for cultural resources associated with soil, water, plant, and related conservation concerns.

MAJOR DUTIES

The duties and responsibilities of this archaeologist position, but are not limited to, the following:

·?????? Participates in archeological field surveys including but not limited to:

o?? Pedestrian Surveys, involving walking over the landscape and searching for archeological features and artifacts.

Archaeology Team Leader | Atlanta, GA | SE Regional US

VHB’s Atlanta office is actively seeking an Archaeology Group Lead/Archaeology Manager to join our regional Environmental Services Group. The position would serve as the technical lead and manager for the Atlanta archaeology team. The arch team consists of 16 professionals and this person would have 3-4 direct reports. The Archaeology Team Leader manages the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring the accuracy of technical reports, meeting schedules, and coordinating efforts to meet project compliance needs for Atlanta’s Environmental Group. ?

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct, lead, author, and/or review archaeological investigations, Cultural Resource Assessment Surveys, and Archaeological Resource Identification Surveys at the Phase I, II, and III levels of investigation.
  • Lead and manage a large team of professional archaeologists.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for cultural resource projects.
  • Conduct archival and historical background research.
  • Assess archaeological site significance under Criterion D of the NRHP.
  • Assess proposed infrastructure improvement and/or construction projects and other engineering related impacts to identified cultural resources.
  • Prepare recommendations for the preservation, avoidance, and/or minimization of impacts to eligible or listed cultural resources.
  • Coordinate regulatory compliance efforts with federal, state, and municipal agencies.

Skills and Attributes

  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience coordinating and managing archaeological investigations.
  • Familiarity working with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and knowledge of GDOT expectations and procedures preferred.
  • Familiarity working with NEPA, ARPA, NHPA, NAGPRA.
  • Experience implementing the survey methodology for conducting archaeological investigations in Georgia and the Southeast.
  • Knowledge of American history and Southeastern American archaeology.

Job Description

Providing technical, scientific, and procedural guidance for considering and managing cultural resources and historic properties within the state of Missouri for DNR Soil and Water Conservation Program (SWCP), Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) and USDA - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).


Facilitate communications with SWCDs and NRCS field office personnel to promote efficient cultural resource investigations.


Work with the SWCP Archeologist in ensuring that MO SWCDs and NRCS field personnel working in any manner with Section 106 compliance activities complete the NRCS web-based and field modules.


Serve as the Primary Investigator on state and federal conservation projects, conduct cultural resources and historic property investigations, evaluations, and develop treatment plans for mitigation with NRCS CRS (Cultural Resources Specialist/Archeologist). Provide reports, findings, recommendations, and pertinent information to SHPO/THPO and NRCS in a format approved by the SHPO/THPO office within two weeks of investigation.


Assist the SHPO in investigating reports of unmarked human burials cases and in assessing appropriate treatment plans for preservation and stabilization.


Compensation

The contracted position will receive $6000 per month.


A stipend of $350 per month will be provided for health insurance.

What you will accomplish

  • Ability to be listed on BLM cultural resources permits in the Pacific Northwest, including the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana
  • Experience applying for state-issued excavation permits in the Pacific Northwest, including the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana
  • Experience with and thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for cultural resources compliance projects located in the Pacific Northwest, including the states of Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project planning, coordination, scheduling, creating/tracking budgets, and understanding of all aspects of a project from pre-field tasks to final report preparation.
  • Must demonstrate completion, at a PI level, of a minimum of one testing or data recovery excavation project (three or more projects a plus) involving primarily archaeological investigation.
  • Preparation of final reports consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation. Projects shall have been performed under the jurisdiction of the National Historic Preservation Act.

This posting is for a project specific position that will encompass excavation and laboratory work for a reservoir in northeast Texas. The reservoir is being constructed to supply water to the DFW metroplex and surrounding communities. Intensive archaeological survey has been completed resulting in the identification of numerous prehistoric and historic sites now undergoing Phase II excavation.

The open position is for a temporary field technician to assist on Phase II excavation of deeply buried prehistoric sites. The majority of work will consist of hand excavation in the floodplain of the North Sulphur River. There will be opportunities for field lab work (i.e., water screening and flotation) and additional excavation experience on historic and multicomponent sites. Numerous sites have already been excavated and evidence of human occupation across the area extends to the early Holocene.

This role requires a two- to three-month commitment to the project;?August through the end of October 2024. Travel and lodging will be covered by SWCA for the duration of the project, as well as per diem on days that are scheduled for work. What you will accomplish


Work as part of an excavation specific archaeological field team. This will include:

  • Conducting archaeological fieldwork under a SWCA crew lead at a testing (Phase II) level excavation.
  • Hand excavating 1x1m units on deeply buried prehistoric archaeological sites.
  • Completing project specific paperwork to document all excavation procedures and results.
  • Assisting in the uncovering, identification, and documentation of burn features.
  • Assisting crew leads with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units.
  • Participating in lab work on occasion which may include water screening, flotation sampling, and artifact processing.
  • Working with a large group of experienced archaeologists from multiple backgrounds and companies.

Experience and qualifications for success


Required Qualifications:

  • A high school or diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field, preferred.
  • An accredited Field School Certification, preferred.
  • Field experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey and Phase II/III excavation.

Want to work on a fantastic late 18th to early 19th century historic site?? Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc.?has field technician positions available for a Phase III mitigation project in central Kentucky. The project will begin at the end of July and likely last through August 2024. A bachelor’s degree in anthropology and attendance in a field school are required, and historic archaeological field experience is preferred. Hourly rate is between $19.25 and $21.25, depending on amount of experience.?Lodging will be provided for the duration, and $46 per diem will be provided for all workdays. Candidates need to have a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

?Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Field Technician position is under the direction of Staff Archaeologists and Principal Investigators.

Duties may range from?assisting in activities associated with the excavation of test units and features, screening, backfilling excavated areas, and cleaning/packaging/labeling archaeological artifacts.

Qualifications:

One year of experience as a field technician and the completion of an archaeological field school are preferred;

Ability to work in a variety of field conditions,?and to navigate efficiently in remote areas;

Must be able to stoop, bend, lift heavy objects, work while standing, and do general manual labor such as digging, sifting, and moving wheel barrows of dirt from one location to another.

Must be able to work in variable weather conditions, be physically fit, and be able to work in a variety of conditions.?

It is anticipated the project will largely consist of 8 hour work days, but certain conditions may extend the work day length. Hence, candidates must be able to work up to ten- to twelve- hour work days.?

Must possess problem solving skills to identify problems, develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions, must be resourceful and able to complete tasks in the most effective manner, must be able to follow directions and work independently as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Senior Staff with planning archaeological field projects, including monitoring surveys, subsurface surveys, evaluations, and data recovery projects.
  • Oversee fieldwork for Phase I, II, and III investigations, as well as laboratory artifact cataloging, preserving, and analyzing materials recovered during investigations.
  • Manage several field crews simultaneously.
  • Conduct pre-field research, contribute to technical reports, complete site forms, and small reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, policies, and procedures.

Experience Required:

  • M.A./M.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • Must meet the Secretary of Interior’s professional qualifications standards for archaeology and be an RPA or be eligible to become an RPA.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Project Archaeologist: Experience in CRM
  • Senior Project Archaeologist: At least three years of field supervisory experience in CRM.

Archaeological Field Technicians - CO, AZ $22-24/hour Alpine Archaeological Consultants

Alpine is accepting applications for Field Archaeologists for upcoming survey work. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to further develop your skillset while working on a variety of projects within our 12-state region. Projects are currently scheduled through the end of 2024. ?

Wages are based on experience, but range from $22–$24 per hour for crew members. Individuals may be trained as assistant crew chiefs on some projects and receive additional compensation. This is a full-time, temporary, hourly position with the potential for work into 2025.

Our typical field sessions are 8 days on/6 days off; (Tuesday – Tuesday)? 10-hour work days.

?

Alpine provides a minimum of $59/day per diem and single occupancy housing during all field sessions. Higher per diem may be provided based on the project’s location. Company transportation is provided from our offices to the project area unless entire crew is flying. Travel time and airfare is provided for projects that are distant from our home base. Travel time on session work days is compensated. Alpine provides paid sick leave upon hire and paid personal leave is accrued after working 160 hours.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will conduct cultural surveys in support of cultural resources management work under the supervision of our Project Archaeologist, with direction from the project’s Principal Investigator. This position will assist in the timely and comprehensive completion of survey work, including accurate data collection. This position is entirely field based and requires the ability to regularly perform physical work, including, but not limited to, the ability to walk up to 8 miles a day (sometimes in rugged terrain). The position may also require the ability to stoop, sit for long periods, carry heavy objects, and use hand tools for digging and scraping.

Qualifications:

Candidates for this position should have completed college-level course work in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field––a B.A./B.S. degree in anthropology or closely related field is preferred. A minimum of one month of survey or excavation field experience and/or the successful completion of an accredited field school is required. Experience in the western U.S. is highly desirable, but not required. The ability to use a GPS unit and/or possessing a basic understanding of lithic technology or ceramics is a plus.
