About the Role:
We are seeking Associate Archaeologists to support projects across California. In this role, you’ll conduct archaeological surveys, monitoring, excavations, and data collection at diverse project sites. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience while working alongside senior cultural resource professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, monitoring, and excavations
Document sites, artifacts, and features using GPS and tablets
Maintain accurate field notes and photographs for project deliverables
Collaborate with field teams and construction personnel
Participate in physically demanding fieldwork, including hiking and excavation
Communicate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Stay informed on CRM best practices and regulatory guidelines
Regular travel for field assignments, with occasional overnight stays or camping
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
Completion of archaeology field school preferred
Minimum 1+ year of CRM fieldwork experience in California
Familiarity with pedestrian surveys, STUs, and data recovery methods
Proficiency with Survey123, Collector, or similar field data tools
Comfortable working outdoors in rugged terrain and varying weather
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time-management abilities
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Based in California and able to pass SummitWest’s background check
