About the Role:
We are seeking Associate Archaeologists to support projects across California. In this role, you’ll conduct archaeological surveys, monitoring, excavations, and data collection at diverse project sites. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience while working alongside senior cultural resource professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, monitoring, and excavations
- Document sites, artifacts, and features using GPS and tablets
- Maintain accurate field notes and photographs for project deliverables
- Collaborate with field teams and construction personnel
- Participate in physically demanding fieldwork, including hiking and excavation
- Communicate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Stay informed on CRM best practices and regulatory guidelines
- Regular travel for field assignments, with occasional overnight stays or camping
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
- Completion of archaeology field school preferred
- Minimum 1+ year of CRM fieldwork experience in California
- Familiarity with pedestrian surveys, STUs, and data recovery methods
- Proficiency with Survey123, Collector, or similar field data tools
- Comfortable working outdoors in rugged terrain and varying weather
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Based in California and able to pass SummitWest’s background check
