SUMMARY:

This position is an Archaeological Field Technician and is a seasonal, temporary, on-call, full-time employment position. The employee will participate in field activities. The employee will function as part of a team and as support staff to the Project Archaeologist and Principal Investigator for a variety of projects. Assignments will include assisting in monitoring, Phase I, II, and III archaeological fieldwork.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

?

• B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or other closely related fields.
• Previous experience in archaeology fieldwork or completion of an archaeology field school.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• Detail note taking skills.
• Communicate effectively and work closely with fellow employees.
• Ability to operate GPS units.
• Education and/or archaeological fieldwork experience in the Southeast, United States.
• Ability to identify precontact and historic artifacts of the Southeast, United States.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the direction of the Project Archaeologist will conduct archaeological fieldwork at a variety of levels including survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations.
• Ensure safety and quality standards, policies and procedures are complied with.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:?

• Ability to travel frequently and on short notice.
• Ability to travel overnight for extended periods of time.
• Ability to walk long distances, recurring bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, digging, and similar activities.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on varied terrain, sometimes for extended periods of time.
