The UWM-CRM program is looking to hire three qualified applicants to join our growing team. As part of the UWM-CRM team, successful applicants will work in a collaborative environment with other team members working to fulfill federal and state historic preservation compliance requirements for clients throughout the Midwest.

UW-Milwaukee Cultural Resource Management Program (UWM-CRM)

UWM¡¯s CRM program was established in 1974 and has an established a reputation for high quality, cost-effective CRM work.

The UWM-CRM program offers a full suite of archaeological and architecture history services for clients across many markets/sectors, including but not limited to: transportation, energy, utility, telecom, private individuals and businesses/developers in addition to federal and state agencies and local and county municipalities.

The position requires strong technical report writing skills (given the high volume of formal report of investigations, technical memos, agency short forms, and cultural resource documentation prepared on an annual basis); ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks; an understanding of the wide-variety of regulation-driven reporting formats; and familiarity with all types of cultural resource documentation formats. UWM-CRM also provides a broad spectrum of interpretive services from exhibition master planning to the design, fabrication, and installation of traveling and/or temporary exhibitions including the development of accompanying curriculum materials, social media plans and digital products such as supporting web sites. Skills relative to public outreach and communications are desired.

The?Archaeology Project Manager/Researcher I?will be responsible for oversight of specific projects performed in the field and laboratory. The position will conduct field operations and ensure that work is carried out in a safe and timely manner. The Project Manager/Researcher I will maintain field equipment and supplies as needed. Day-to-day tasks may include conducting phase I archaeological surveys, archaeological site evaluations, directing data recovery investigations, monitoring heavy-machine excavations, total station mapping, supervising crew excavations, training new crew, proofing project documentation, excavation plan and profile drawings, and maps, taking photographs, supervising and participating in the burial sites excavations (following the provisions of Wis. Stat. 157.70), and providing weekly reports and comprehensive and concise project summaries to project Principal Investigators. t. The Project Manager/Researcher I will also work with the?geospatial team to maintain project specific?GIS?databases and provide?GIS?training for staff. Laboratory work may include archival and literature research, material culture analyses, recordkeeping, report writing and proofing, and creating report illustrations.?

This position will be based in the?UWM-CRM?offices on UWM¡¯s campus in Milwaukee, WI. However, the work requires travel throughout the Midwest to direct and/or monitor on-going?UWM-CRM?projects and produce progress reports for?UWM-CRM?staff and clients. Fieldwork may be conducted in remote locations under stressful conditions and requires moderate physical fitness.

Salary Range: $45,000-$62,160

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Masters of Arts or Science Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Historic Preservation or related field.
  • Meets Secretary of Interior¡¯s Professional Standards for Archaeology.
  • Demonstrated experience in analytic skills (lithic analysis, historical archaeology, floral analysis, faunal analysis, ceramic analysis, laboratory management, historic architecture and historic preservation, Human Osteology or related).
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing
  • Demonstrated experience in?CRM?project management.
  • Meets criteria to be listed on Wisconsin Historical Society of list of Qualified Archaeologist for the excavation of human remains.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop projects and direct large field projects.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and?GIS?software.
  • Supervisory experience in cultural resource management.
  • Experience and proficiency in report preparation.
  • Meets criteria to be listed on Wisconsin Historical Society of list as Skeletal Analyst.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with colleagues and mentoring students with a diverse array of perspectives and backgrounds.

Yearly Paid Time Off (12-month academic staff, exempt, full-time)

  • Vacation - 176 hours (22 days)
  • Personal - 36 hours (4.5 days)

  • Sick Leave - 96 hours (12 days) (176 hrs. for the first 18 months, 96 hrs/yr?thereafter, accumulates without limit.)
  • Total Yearly Paid Time Off = 47.5 days
