Savannah in shelter in Abingdon, VA

Hi all,

There appears to be a Savannah that was slated for euthanasia when a rescue volunteer at the Animal Defense League of Washington County Inc at Abingdon, VA noticed that he might not be your average domestic and took a second look. She reports that he is very leggy but couldn't easily get pictures of that. He's likely a lower generation Savannah given the lack of good contrast but has a nice face and large ears.

They are currently doing vet check, vaccination and testing before he might be released but if anyone was near there and interested then they can contact them directly and go see him on the weekend.

The contact is Sigrid Phillips, her email is schwiiz@... and phone is 276-608-4502 . The Animal Defense League of Washington County, Inc. is at 445 Circle Drive Abingdon VA 24210.

The cat's name is Kenya, he's friendly and affectionate if a little stressed being in a small cage right now!

If nobody adopts him over the weekend we will be looking for a foster home for him next week so that he doesn't have to stay there..

New Foster Yahoogroup - oh and possible need now for a foster home in or near Maine

Hi,

Just wanting to announce that we are changing the way we manage our Foster homes for Savannah Rescue.

Over the years we have maintained a database of people, requiring them to fill out a lengthy application form that just sits and gets outdated over years when we don't have a cat in that area. Every form has to be entered into that database, which is quite some work for our Secretary, MaryJo.

To simplify the process, we've decided to use Yahoogroups again... with a new group created called SV-Rescue-Fosters. Simply click on to join. Once joined it is much the same as our general Rescue list where only posts from the moderators (core group of Savannah Rescue: me, Kristine, MaryJo and Nikki) will be approved. It will be used to notify people of a cat needing rescue, with the location and any details we have provided at that time. You would only reply to that post IF you are within reach of that location AND you are able to help at that time.

For that that don't check email too often, we will maintain a separate smaller list of phone numbers but the email option is going to be our first resource to find a foster home.

We will now try to go through the database and send an invitation directly to all those already registered, this is likely a slow process though... unless MaryJo tells me an easier way to do it soon :-)

Additionally, we don't have anyone in our current database in Maine but have a potential Savannah in need in a shelter there. Please let me know if you could get to Westbrook, Maine to pick up a cat there. We are currently waiting on pictures to confirm he is a Savannah.

Thanks!

Brigitte

Need help with transporting a Savannah from Sonoma, CA to San Diego area, CA

Hi,

Savannah Rescue has a lovely but traumatized F2 spayed female in temporary foster care. She was surrendered to rescue but the breeder was contacted and they wish to take their cat back and work with her so that she can find a new pet home hopefully in the future. Rescue loves to support good breeders that wish to take responsibility for their cats so is working on helping them get their cat back!

Willow is not a candidate for shipping, and so we need to arrange road transport. If you are located in CA and willing to give some time to this effort, let me know! Email me at brigitte@... .

Thanks!

Brigitte

PS Just a mention to the pet owners out there, if you are having troubles with your cat, please reach out to the breeder. Chances are they want to help!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your interest in Shelby, please understand that she is not officially in Rescue, as was mentioned in the initial emails, we are hoping to avoid her being surrendered to Rescue by placing her directly from her current owners home. ?As such, we do not know if the current owners will ship her, that is their decision, nor do we have any more pictures, nor can we answer any specific questions on her. ?She is located in Northern California. ?I am sure that once she find a new home we will be notified and will be able to announce the same to this list. ?As far as we know as of today, she is still available.

Please email her owners directly with all questions (-:?Paul Horn ?- 22bcatppdesign@... and?Linda Horn oldsalt9479@....

Subject: Fwd: F4 Savannah Needs New Home

The following Savannah is in need of a new home. ?Unfortunately, her owners are being faced with a situation wherein they are over their cat limit and are being forced to part with many of their cats.

Please call?707-429-4928?if you would like to give Shelby a new home.

She is not in Rescue yet and we are hoping that we can bypass bringing her into Rescue and fostering her and then adopting her out as one change in homes would be easier than two.

Diablo, F2 Savannah male, has been adopted.

After lengthy deliberations, we have finally found a new home for Diablo and he should be heading off there this weekend.

It was a really hard decision, at one point we were at a loss to decide which great home was best. We feel that Savannah Rescue is so fortunate to have so many wonderful homes offering, and it almost makes us wish we had more Savannahs to offer. Thank you so much for all the kind offers!

On that note, please do consider checking out our other Yahoogroup, SavannahCatsAvailable, , where there are a number of adult Savannahs still looking for a new home.

F2 Neutered male available in New Jersey

Hi,

Diablo is a handsome F2 neutered male that is almost 3 years of age. His owner's circumstances have changed and he is unable to keep Diablo any longer.

Diablo came to him as a shy kitten but has come around to being a very affectionate cat with him, although it can take him a little time to warm to new people. He is not keen on being picked up or confined (like many Savannahs). He is up-to-date on vaccinations.

He is an active and playful kitty, comfortable with adults but has not really had any interactions with children. He is used to living with small dogs but not other cats.

We think he would do best with a family with older children (or no children) and dogs not cats. He would not at all be suitable for a large cat household.

We would prefer a home that is within driving distance of Franklinville, NJ. His adoption fee will be $200.

Please email us at info@... if interested in adopting Diablo. Please include a short description of your household and why you think Diablo would be suitable for your home.

Sincerely,
Brigitte

Savannah in PA caught and safe

Hi,

Just a quick update, the Savannah we were asking for help capturing in PA has been trapped and examined by a vet. He seems to be healthy and the lady that found him thinks she wishes to keep him if we cannot identify his previous owner. He is a neutered male, no microchip.

Rescue needs help trapping a Savannah in Philadelphia area

Rescue has been alerted to a F1 or F2 that is roaming free in a residential area about 20 miles outside of Philadelphia. The woman who notified us about the cat is unable to catch it. She is providing food and shelter but the weather is only getting colder. We need someone to trap this kitty and take it in to be scanned for a microchip and for an examination. If there is no chip we will need someone to foster him/her as well.

You must have a live animal trap or be able to secure one in order to help. We do not want people scaring the cat off by trying to catch it. Experience with F1-F2 cats is also preferred.?

If you think you could help us, please contact me so that I can coordinate your efforts with the woman who found the cat. We would like to do this as soon as possible.

Thank you.?

Kruger has found his new home

Hi,

Thank you all for your patience. With the holiday weekend it has taken us some time to process all the applications, but we would like to thank you all for your generosity in offering Kruger some really wonderful homes! As so often happens, it was very hard for us to decide which home was more perfect for the cat.

We think we have found the right home for Kruger and he should be leaving his foster home shortly for his new digs.

Thanks again to all that offered, although I know we are so fortunate that so few Savannahs seem to need new homes I do wish we had more to offer when there are so many wonderful homes out there.

Sincerely,
Brigitte

Update on Cheetah the savannah in Washington, DC

We wanted to let all of you know that Cheetah has been placed in a foster home, and with some luck, will be adopted shortly. All of us at rescue were very happy to receive several offers to take Cheetah even though he is a FIV positive cat.?

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in Cheetah and to those who simply wrote to wish him the best.?

FIV Positive Male Available - Washington. D.C.

Kristine Alessio

Cheetah is a super sweet, 3-year old neutered savannah boy who has been turned into a shelter in Washington, DC. Because he is FIV positive, his time at the shelter is very short and we must get him out before he is euthanized. Cheetah is a big talker, as you will see in pictures, and wants a family to love him more than anything.?

Owning a FIV positive cat requires some special living arrangements. FIV is contagious to other cats via saliva, and it is thought that only deep tissue bites really pass the virus. However, given that there is a small chance that it could be transmitted through grooming, FIV positive cats are usually only cats or only live with other FIV cats. The virus is NOT contagious to any other animal, including humans, under any conditions. With good food, low stress and lots of attention, FIV positive cats can live long, happy lives. People need to be especially diligent in the event of any signs of illness, but other than that, FIV cats do not require special care.

We are looking for a foster home for Cheetah immediately. If you are in the area or are willing to travel to pick him up, please let us know ASAP.?

Thank you.

F1 Kruger available in Phoenix, AZ

Hi,

Kruger is a nearly 5 year old F1 neutered male. He is healthy and up to date on vaccinations, he has no health issues nor litterbox issues.

He's not that interested in humans, much prefers the company of other cats but does like to hang out in the same room as his owner. He's very smart and very fast and loves to play with toys. Anything that moves he will pounce on and this has lead to problems in his current household where there are a toddler and small babies.

The owner feels that he would do much better in a household without babies or small children, and definitely a house with other cats. A home that understands he is not keen on being picked up or petted. The home must be indoor only, although an enclosure would be a welcome idea.

At this time, we are looking for a home that is within driving distance of Phoenix, AZ as we will not be shipping him. If he is to be shipped, then he would be shipped back to his breeder to have them handle the rehoming process. In order to spare him that stressful experience, the breeder has agreed to let us try to find him a local home.

Please email info@... if you are interested in offering Kruger a home.

Thanks,
Brigitte

Welcome new members

Kristine Alessio

We rarely, if ever post anything but available cats and kittens on this list. ?Those are often few and far between. ?The Savannah breed is very popular but fortunately we only get 2-5 cats a year into Rescue. ?However, given that we have several new members, I am posting this message.

Currently, we do not have any cats or kittens available for adoption. ?When we do, we make an announcement on this Yahoo list describing the cat and its location. ?Generally, our adoption fee is the same as all other Rescue organizations, approximately $250.00. ?If a cat had faced significant medical bills as part of its rescue, we may charge a higher fee to cover them though. ?

We get all generations of Savannahs into Rescue and we get them from all over the Country. ?We are an International organization and work with several other cat rescue groups. ?We just don't know when we will get a Savannah in. ?So be patient and keep watching this list for announcements.

We maintain a Foster family database and if you are interested in becoming a Foster parent to a Savannah, send us an email at info@... indicating that you are interested in Fostering. ?When a Savannah comes into Rescue, that is our first step, placing it in a qualified Foster home for evaluation. ?Once that has been done, we then announce the cat or kitten for adoption.

Given the overwhelming response to Savannah Rescue and the literally ?thousands of people that are interested in being owned by a Savannah, we have an alternate resource as well. ?This is the savannahcatsavailable Yahoo list. ?here is a brief synopsis of that Group/List: ?There are already Yahoogroups for Savannah kittens to be posted as available. This list is established for a different need, for cats and older kittens that need a home. Savannah Rescue sees a need for a list where retired breeding cats may be listed, as well as kittens and cats returned to breeders for rehoming. Many breeders are responsible, they take back kittens and cats that end up in homes unable to take care of them.

This is not a chat list, posts will be moderated for content and should simply be listings of cats available. Adoption fees should not top $500 . Any kittens should be older than 6 months of age, this is not intended to be another kitten classifieds list but a forum to home retired breeders, adult cats and older kittens. Please post location of cats with the post, preferable in subject heading.

To join the savannahcatsavailable list,?
Thank you again for your interest in helping a Savannah in need. ?

Another California Foster Opportunity

We have another awesome opportunity for just the right home in California.? We need to keep this boy's travel at a minimum and ask that those of you out of?state?hold off on applying.? If we don't find a great home locally, I'll send another message opening up the search.

?

Leo is a 2-year old large F1 boy who is in need of a very special home. Leo was neglected and abused for most of his short life and as a result he has a lot of trouble trusting new people.

?

While he very much wants to be loved and is affectionate once he trusts you, Leo is aggressive towards people at first. He will hiss, nip and swipe, although he rarely makes contact.

?

He requires a quiet, stable home without children. It would be best if there were either one or no other cats. Conversely he seems to get along with dogs as long as they are not too pushy with him.

?

Leo loves to fetch, chase feather wands, and will 'groom' your hair for you. What he wants most of all is someone to love and bond with. The key to working with Leo is a lot of patience. It will take time to earn this big guy's trust but the reward is well worth the time spent.?

?

Pictures of Leo are available on the svrescue group site.

?

If you have what you think it takes to love this special guy into being able to? trust again,?foster applications can be found at?:?, or email info@... and we will send one to you.

?

As always,?our selection will be based on what will be the best home for him.

Need Foster Home in S.Cal

Kristine Alessio

We are looking for a foster home (preferably in Souther California) but Arizona or Northern California would also be acceptable for a young F4 male Savannah. ?Goo was originally placed as a kitten through SV Rescue, but now unfortunately, his owner is surrendering him. ?Goo is apparently not getting along with the owner's girlfriend's cats and they are picking on him and hence Goo is not always using the litterbox.

We believe that without torment from the other cats Goo will return to good litterbox habits, but until he can get into foster care and be assessed we do not want to put him up for adoption.

If you can foster Goo please email us at info@....

He does not spray and appears overall healthy. He does currently have Coccidia and is being treated. He was FELV/FIV checked and is negative. He will be microchipped, dewormed and receive all shots prior to re-homing.

Because Titan will require time and patience as he needs to be re-socialized we have a strong preference for a local home.

His new family will need to have lots of patience and love to give to him. It will be required that the person come to his current home and let the bond and socialization start there. Once re-homed, home visits are a must. The current rescuers want to be able to supervise his re-socialization and health needs after adoption.

Adoption fee $500.00 to cover vet and care costs.

Please email us at info@... if you would like to be considered as a home for Diego confirming your location and giving us a short description of your home.
