Re: WAS: How things are going (for Fed Workers) NOW: Options for charged discussion threads

Hello Sisters,
I am here too reading, contemplating where we will go from here. As I mentioned to some of you sisters, the authentic truth is we don't love all parts of each other. How the hell can I love all parts of you, my family and everyone else in the world when I don't love all parts of myself. This is not a negative, it is a place for ?growth and there is no perfection here.?

Here is a story that was just ready to me the other day.

When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.

The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.? One must accept the security of the winged life, of ebb and flow, of intermittency.¡±?

The constellation has begun!?

May we weather this storm!

Hi Women,

These are intense times.

I have things that parts of me want to say. I've written draft emails and not clicked send. The words are not ready, yet. They need more time.

I'm grateful that we have another constellation weekend with Emily coming up.

  1. MAKE A SECOND EMAIL LIST: Create a new Groups.io specifically for "charged discussions" or whatever you want to call it. A separate email list for those who want to have these kinds of discussions on email.?
    1. Pros: Keeps these discussions entirely separate. Women can come and go from this other list as they please, or turn off notices for a while if a give thread on it is really bothering you and you don't want to engage. Given my history of managing our group email, I would say this option is the simplest and best because there is not all that much tech-savvy for email groups here that is needed for the other options. (No offense, them's just the facts as I see them.)
    2. Cons: Involves setting up another free group and managing it. Not onerous, but has to be done.
  2. USE KEYWORD IN SUBJECT LINE ON EXISTING EMAIL LIST: Agree that we start putting a safe word (or maybe an "unsafe word", LOL) in the subject line of messages that will contain whatever charged topics we think should have such a warning. (For example: HOT TOPIC: Politics --or preferably, specifically the political topic you are talking about so people can know what they're getting into before reading)
    1. Pros: Simple, doesn't require a new email list.?
    2. Cons: People have to remember to use the safe word in the subject line. When we forget, need to apologize and others need to forgive. Also, people who don't want to see unsafe topics have to remember not to read them, and if they accidentally or intentionally read such messages and get upset, not take it out on those having the discussion.
  3. USE "FOLLOWING" SETTINGS ON EXISTING EMAIL LIST: Each person can go to the site, login, and in their settings for this group, pick one of two options:
    1. Decide that you won't receive ANY messages except threads (messages with a given subject line) that you "opt in" to receive. This means regularly visiting the Groups.io website and scanning the group's messages looking for threads you want to follow.?
      1. Pros: You can completely avoid anything you don't want to read
      2. Cons: I do not see this likely to work well. Many will forget and miss important messages about our gatherings.
    2. Decide that you always receive the FIRST message in any new thread. If you want to see subsequent messages with that subject line, you click the "follow this thread" link in the email footer.?
      1. Pros: You don't have to regularly go to the site and scan for any new activity and follow that which you wish to see. You opt in in your email inbox.
      2. Cons: This is not that much better than option 3a, in that a lot of us don't check email regularly enough and i'm not sure what happens if you're late to opt in to important threads about our gatherings, or non-charged discussions; do you get all the messages that happened since the first one, or only those that start coming after you opt in. (I think you could always go to the Groups.io website and see the messages you missed, but again, not sure women are likely to do that.)??

The options under #3 are meant for more traditional email discussion groups where people are on them because they're gathering info, networking, etc. Like a group of coders who know they can go on a list to ask questions or look to see if others have answered a question they have. Or a music lovers group where you only want to see the Taylor Swift related posts and not thousands of others. They help limit the amount of email one gets from a very active list.

I don't see a way we can use the existing list, but have messages with certain subjects come only to people who've opted in to get certain subjects. But I am very busy, so I only did a cursory look through the admin manual. If anyone else wants to dig deep in the Groups.io documentation, feel free.

My perspective on doing any of the above: While I might be willing to follow out of curiosity if some women opt to have email discussions like this, I'm unlikely to post myself or reply. It's too hard to convey tone on email and you can't see the other person's reactions and body language, so you can't soften your tone or frame your message differently or give them space to interrupt, ask you to clarify, etc. You can ask them to clarify in writing in a reply, but the conversation is very disjointed as everyone is on email at different times and frequencies. So hurt feelings can go on far longer as a conversation that might have taken an hour in person drags on for days in email.?

We've been through PPA and years of SSR and done all kinds of sacred work and we get two precious weekends per year to spend more time doing sacred work. We don't have the luxury of all living near each other and getting together more regularly, as a group and in smaller groups or one on ones, where over the natural course of socializing we'd have more of these kinds of discussions.?

And I don't want to spend my two precious weekends getting into things that there is not really time to get into, or if we do, almost the whole weekend will need to be dedicated to it, or at least a big chunk of one of our days.?

I do get into discussions of a lot of contentious things with the women I have spent time talking to on the phone or in person more regularly, and I'm happy to do that.

It's clear that what we have been through together in PPA and in the time after shows that we hold a lot of ideas in values in common, but definitely not all ideas in all areas of life--which I'm fine with. I'd prefer to focus my GROUP time on those shared values, sacred space, ritual, spiritual growth, etc. And leave a lot of topics for one on one or small group conversations that arise naturally (and almost never on email).

Re: How things are going (for Federal Workers)...and a request

Hi Women-

I just wanted to circle back and clarify. I stand by sending?my initial email. My second, was only to take care of myself. I am not generally afraid of tough conversations. I just don't have the internal?reserves to engage in complex topics. I'd want to do it in a better, more articulate way than I can right now.?

I also did not mean to be cryptic about how I am doing and, again, see previous?low internal reserves. Some combo pack of depression, anxiety, ADHD, post menopause, burn out, adrenal stuff, plus shifting career and identity,?husband working in VA all week and then the world...all while having to continue to work to finish?out the year. I'm not quite ready to talk about it yet and just so you have some sense. If I knew what to ask for I know I could ask here.

I love you women,
Paige

Re: How things are going (for Federal Workers)...and a request

Morning sisters:

This is a pattern I have seen again and again on this list:?

1. Sister sends some heartfelt concern over current political/legal situation going on in our country (in this case from Paige, a report from employee inside the administration describing what¡¯s happening on the ground at EPA ie factual information most of us don¡¯t have access to.)

2. ?Another sister responds (in this case ME responding with a report from inside the USCGA on what they¡¯re dealing with on the ground. ?Intention again is to share info unique to individual in the interest of sharing knowledge and experience.)

3. Another sister will jump in to say: (in this case) Gee, some people are terrified about the current administration and some people are excited. ?Whose to say who¡¯s right and who¡¯s wrong?

4. ?OP will then jump in and APOLOGIZE for bringing up the topic in the first place.

5. ?We all go ¡°la la la isn¡¯t it a lovely day today?¡± And no one is allowed to bring up the topic ever again.

No sisters. ?Sorry. ?I¡¯m done playing. ?

What is happening in this country right now is NOT NORMAL. ?If you think I¡¯m wrong just imagine Obama or Biden on his first week in office turning over all personal federal data of all federal payees to George Soros or Bill Gates. ?Y¡¯all would be screaming from the rooftops. ?(I would be screaming from the rooftops!). DOGE has no government authority and exists outside the constitution. ?This isn¡¯t about party divide anymore this is about how to salvage our democracy from the hands of those actively trying to destroy it. ?

Abigail writes: ¡°I read the letter sent to Erica. And skimmed through the articles. And from her email, it is clear she is struggling and upset with the administration's actions. It must be hard to receive such a notice and to feel targeted (in her words).¡±

Thank you for reading the source material. ?But respectfully, she doesn¡¯t just ¡°feel targeted¡±¡ªshe is literally and actually being targeted. ?They are trying to take her job away. It literally already happened to 6 federal employees who I know. It¡¯s about to happen with some 6,000 FBI employees, for the heinous sin of (checks notes) actually following orders from FBI superiors and doing their actual jobs.?

I am willing to respectfully discuss these changes with anyone who wishes to, perhaps somewhere different than our main list. ?But I am over pretending none of it is happening to keep some misguided notion of ¡°the peace.¡±

Some of you are apparently so excited to get your tax cuts you think the rest of us should just shut up about the authoritarians taking over. ?Not going to play, sorry.

With love,

Suzanne

Dear family & friends-

I am reaching out to ask a favor. Will you contact your members of Congress and ask them to stop the onslaught of illegal and unjust actions of the new Administration?

As a federal employee who, yes, received an email this past week from my job, I am being targeted. I fully expect things to get worse for me personally before they get better.

I have the scammy, illegal "deferred resignation" offer, but as someone who works on climate change, I have no reason to believe they won't turn on me/EPA next, and will ignore my union's collective bargaining agreement and employment law while doing so.

Since to the Office of Personnel Management's massive data files on every federal employee, as well as now having (the source of social security and medicare payments, in addition to every other federal payment), it's reasonable to think that this could all happen very quickly and on a massive scale....if we let the new administration make good on these threats.

This targeting of federal workers is on top of egregious ICE raids, executive orders rolling back diversity efforts, transgender recognition and protection, illegal freezes on spending that had been legally obligated to non-profits, States, Local governments, and Tribal governments. This avalanche of threats is intended to scare, overwhelm, and freeze us all.

If my job disappears I like to think that I will be ok; I will figure things out for myself. But there are many, many people who are far more vulnerable than I am, and who won't be able to weather this storm that has been unleashed. I believe we all need to do what we can to , and to minimize the damage as much as we can.

Please contact your members of Congress, and tell them to stand up against this onslaught! Let them know you aren't interested in living under a dictator who can break all the rules. If not for me, think of all the chaos that will ripple out from these illegal, unjust orders, frozen spending, and from letting unelected, unvetted billionaires run amok within our government.

You can use or look up your . Thank you for considering this request and for reading this long message!

Love,
Erica

Dear family & friends-

I am reaching out to ask a favor. Will you contact your members of Congress and ask them to stop the onslaught of illegal and unjust actions of the new Administration??

As a federal employee who, yes, received an email this past week from my job, I am being targeted. I fully expect things to get worse for me personally before they get better.?

I have the scammy, illegal "deferred resignation" offer, but as someone who works on climate change, I have no reason to believe they won't turn on me/EPA next, and will ignore my union's collective bargaining agreement and employment law while doing so.

Since to the Office of Personnel Management's massive data files on every federal employee, as well as now having ?(the source of social security and medicare payments, in addition to every other federal payment), it's reasonable to think that this could all happen very quickly and on a massive scale....if we let the new administration make good on these threats.

This targeting of federal workers is on top of egregious ICE raids, executive orders rolling back diversity efforts, transgender recognition and protection, illegal freezes on spending that had been legally obligated to non-profits, States, Local governments, and Tribal governments. This avalanche of threats is intended to scare, overwhelm, and freeze us all.?

If my?job disappears I like to think that I will be ok; I will figure things out for myself. But there are many, many people who are far more vulnerable than I am, and who won't be able to weather this storm that has been unleashed. I believe we all need to do what we can to , and to minimize the damage as much as we can.?

Please contact your members of Congress, and tell them to stand up against this onslaught! Let them know you aren't interested in living under a dictator who can break all the rules. If not for me, think of all the chaos that will ripple out from these illegal, unjust orders, frozen spending, and from letting unelected, unvetted billionaires run amok within our government.

You can use ?or look up your . Thank you for considering this request and for reading this long message!

Re: Update on my mom

Thanks all!

Matooka, my mom's name is Frances and she goes by Frankie with most people
Kate z, rainbow lights would be lovely.

We just took her home a short while ago; my sister is there for now and I'll go over there to sleep later. The hospital will be helping us arrange home health and I'm not sure what all that will involve or not involve. Hoping she can keep staying at her home alone but with more frequent visits from others (not just me and my aunt). However, I'm not sure about her being alone at night there; getting up to go to the bathroom.

If home health services aren't sufficient to the occasion then I guess we'll look at assisted living.

Thanks....

Yesterday I dropped off my mom at physical therapy and she seemed fine. Picked her up an hour later and the therapist said she had starting speaking in gibberish on and off, and that I should take her to the ER. So i collected my aunt (her sister) on the way and we went to the ER. I've been here all night although Dane came and spelled me for a bit this morning so I could go home and shower, change. Susan (my sister) is coming from Kansas City in about an hour.

Mom probably had a transient ischemic attack (TIA), basically a transient stroke where the blood vessels narrow for a bit, but then for whatever reason the blood starts getting through again. Also her sodium was low. So far she's been on IV to get her sodium back up but nothing else. They plan to add baby aspirin to her daily meds to try to prevent more TIAs.

She hasn't been speaking gibberish since she was in the ER where they started the sodium IV. Not that she feels good, just it's not nonsense. Brains are so weird, she would try to talk and hear herself and she knew the words didn't make sense; weren't what she was trying to say.

Last night after transferring from ER to hospital room she had stopped the gibberish but remained confused. Kept thinking she was in the hospital for constipation (something that troubles her regularly because of the different drugs she is on).

Therapy will be here at some point today to see what her balance, standing, sitting, walking,, etc are like to evaluate if she's safe to go home, so they think she will likely be here for observation until tomorrow.

Hard to imagine given the state she's in at the moment that she could be alone at home any time soon. This situation may move forward the idea of assisted living that we have floated with her before with limited success. Or maybe she will rebound considerably, you never know.

Oh, Sister. This is tough stuff for sure!! So hard to find words that don't feel trite to say. I hope you can lean on Dane and Susan to get to whatever the next phase of things is.?

My friend whose mom just went to assisted living is thriving at 90 after a really rough transition.? She looked so bad and had many of the same anxious stuff as you described your mom. It took from July till late October but she is participating in activities, eating better, her meds are stabilized. And she was adamant about not going then she had fall and she came around to accepting it... so maybe your mom might feel differently about it now.

Sending you lots of love too,
Paige
