Aft seacocks Sabre 36
11
#Sabre36
Hi, I'm the newish owner of a S36 hull #1. I did a map of all seacocks. There are 2 in the aft lazerettes that are very hard to access. If i climb in, i can't reach them to operate. In an emergency where the hose breaks etc the first thing you want to do is close them. Hard to do if you cant reach them. In a seaway if seems like it would be near impossible. Has anyone rigged up a device or aid in closing the seacocks? I'm thinking a length of pipe that fits over the handle that you could access without getting into the lazerette. The port side seacock it out of view, covered by the steering gear enclosure. The stb side i can see, but not touch, unless is dive in head first. Regards Ben

Puck Light LED Replacement Lamps on S426
8
I am replacing the halogen bulbs with LED lamps and the ones I bought for the ceiling puck light fixtures do not fit; they are too long and too thick. These fixtures are smaller than the typical Perko dome light, and may only be on the more recent builds like the 386 and 426 [assuming they are original and the PO did not replace them.] The lamps appear to need to be < 1¡± in length. They are G4 / double pin. Am looking for warm white ~ 3,000 k light. The lamps on Marine Beam and Super Bright LED do not look like they will fit the fixture. What have people used? Thanks, Brian Escapade S426 CT / LIS

solar panel set up for sabre 32 on mooring
7
Hi New sabre 32 owner , Osprey in the Boston area. Boat will be on a mooring and so I need solar power to trickle charge the 2 12 volt batteries and to provide power to bilge pumps when needed. I am looking at either putting the solar panel on the stern rail or lying them in the cockpit . I think mounting on stern rail is better. Looking at Renogy 100 Watt 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Panel. Any input and advice is appreciated especially from other sabre 32 owners . Or other options . Thank you Gary W Sabre 32 Osprey

Head Sink Plumbing Questions
6
Happy spring everyone. Trying to fix a couple of small leaks I have at the sink and shower fixtures under the head/vanity counter. Is there a trick to getting these to stop dripping? I cutoff a 1/2 inch of the hose thinking that they were just cracked at the hose clamp, but that did not seem to help, nor did cranking down the hose clamps. The hoses, or the connectors, still move freely. Are the hoses just work hardened? I assume these are the stock faucet fixtures for an '86 Sabre 34 mkII, correct? Also, I wanted to service the foot pump in there as well, as it did not seem to be operating at full potential. I pulled this "assembly" out after quite a bit of wriggling and jiggling. Is this mounting that the whale gusher galley mk3 pump is attached to stock from the factory? It looks pretty hacked together, and I may have to come up with a different solution, as this is pretty beat up. Any advice and recommendations appreciated. 362 Loose stanchion base screw
3
One of the flat head screws on a stanchion base on our 362 is loose/able to be turned and there is a bit of rust weep coming from under the base. It is the inboard aft screw of the forward stanchion at the starboard side gate. The forward inboard screw/nuts are visibly poking through just above the stove next to the aft cabin bulkhead. The aft screw is not visible. I tried removing a bit of nearby trim but no dice. I¡¯m able to feel some of the through bolts for the toerail/outer sail track but can¡¯t seem to locate the screw in question. The stanchion base doesn¡¯t feel loose so I am considering just sealing with 3M4000UV and calling it good. Any help/advice appreciated as always. -- Rob McCarthy, 1995 #Sabre362 #362Sabre hull 158 ¡°Windhover¡±

Sabre 402 questions
18
This question is specifically for 402 owners. After a 10 year hiatus from sailboat ownership after selling my Sabre 362 in 2015, I am considering buying a Sabre 402. I am curious if many (any) 402 owners single hand their boats? I frequently singlehanded my former 362 and am wondering if it is more difficult or challenging on a 402. My background- late 50¡¯s, relatively athletic, started with a Sabre 28, upgraded to a 362, since selling the 362 raced as crew on an IMX 40. I understand everyone¡¯s skills and comfort levels are different so any and all thoughts welcome. Bill

Epoch LFP Battery Sale - Wiring Question
13
If anyone is interested, Epoch LFP batteries are now 15% off through Sunday, April 27. Several on the list were considering making the change, including myself. I have ordered batteries, a new MultiPlus II and an Orion 12/12-30A to charge the start battery from the LFP house bank. I had planned to make the LFP change next winter, or later, but current events accelerated that decision. https://www.epochbatteries.com/ I believe [have not confirmed] my start battery is isolated from the house bank with its own on/off switch in the cockpit locker right above the battery. It is charged via a 20+ yo PathMaker. Have people wired a manually switched method of connecting the start battery to the house load to have at least nominal house power if there is a total house battery / BMS failure? Or is this an unwarranted concern? Thanks, Brian Escapade S426 CT / LIS

Rebed 362 Stanchions
18
Has anyone rebed the stanchions on their 362? Based on moisture readings, I know some are leaking, and want to stop it soonest. How to access the outboard fasteners? What needs to be removed? Other considerations. Thanks Ed -- SV Enigma, Sabre 362 #199 Lake Erie @ Sandusky, OH

Racor Filter woes
4
My Racor 500FG has developed a small leak which manifests at the water drain. If I tighten it leaks more so I believe the tap itself is the source of the leak. Question-is it worth it to buy a rebuild kit sold on e-Bay for around $60 dollars or should I give up on this 40 year old filter and buy new at around $300. Has anyone experienced this issue and what was the solution. A related question-my Racor is located at about 1/2 the elevation of the side of the tank. I assume that since I can open and replace the filter without siphoning (spilling) fuel, if I remove the filter and empty the filter canister it will break any siphon caused by the connection being below the top of the tank. Trying to avoid a huge mess since the tank is full.. Thanks Sojourn S30-3

Ports and hatches
7
I have an 1983 S34 MK1. I¡¯d like to replace my 2 high profile deck hatches and my ports need new screens. I¡¯ve never like the plastic ports¡always seemed incongruent with the Sabre build level. But the thought of replacing them; nope. Anyone have any idea what the make of the hatches are? I¡¯m guessing the old style frame and hinges rules out replacing the hatch without the entire frame. And does anyone know where I can get replacement screens for the cabin ports? Scott Goldwyn Verano Hudson River

Insurance and other stuff

Reflecting on age, health and changing priorities, we were debating putting Solace on the market. She spent last year on the hard while we rebuilt our cottage, sold the house and adjusted to retirement after a half century of intensely high pressure careers (labor and employment attorney and nursing director.) It¡¯s not fair to sideline a beautiful thoroughbred that¡¯s been part of our family for 22 years. The demand for a survey by BOAT US/Geico as a condition of renewal last week was the tipping point. I spoke to GEICO and explained that the boat was in secure land storage and asked for alternatives or a 12 month waiver of the survey. They were polite but inflexible, then offered to continue the current policy through the current term without the survey. I thanked them for the kind offer of the sleeves from their vest. The rep was still confused when I thanked her for her time and ended the conversation. Once I get Solace cleaned up and inventoried, more will follow. Pete Solace, 1988 30 Mk III

34-2 Targa Propane Conversion
10
Good morning, all. I've done a forum search for a propane conversion on a 34-2 Targa, but haven't found a thread I thought I'd seen before. Can anyone confirm that 6 pound tanks will fit in the lockers in a 34-2 Targa? I've found some comments on the net suggesting that they will, but no photos. -- 1990 Sabre 34-2 Aft Cabin "Ingalina" Bath, ME

Very Wet Bilge (another leak)
7
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this forum, but I found yet another leak (picture attached). Does anyone know what this bolt is on the upper left-hand corner is about? It has a black wire attached that goes to (or comes from) the engine area somewhere. The bolt leaks and leaves a path of water that goes into the bilge. This morning there was significantly less new water accumulated in the bilge so there has been a significant improvement since yesterday. Augustin SV Rhapsody S425 (1990)

Rebedding old (aluminum frame) fixed ports
9
I have removed a leaky fixed port on my 38-1 for re-bedding. It¡¯s the original style with the aluminum frame on the outside as discussed below. I have also read the ¡°Instructions to Rebed Sabre 28 Main Cabin Windows¡±. I would like to do the job following the factory guidelines but am unsure of a few procedures. 1. There is no mention of glazing vinyl or gaskets, but my window clearly has at least two. One poster said he bought 3/16 glazing vinyl #D752. Another mentions acquiring window molding from Catalina Direct. I¡¯m pretty sure I recall Phil Horn stating he researched, purchased and installed the original material and even attached a photo of it during his glass replacement. However, I am unable to find that post. I am hoping those who have experience with this project can shed some light (no pun intended) on the correct products and where to acquire them. And, Phil, if you are following, please respond. 2. The bead of caulking on the outside of the window and the aluminum frame is described as a silicone bead on the factory instructions for the 28. The bead on my windows is rather wide and ugly. It¡¯s silver/gray after all these years, and I¡¯m unsure if it¡¯s original. I¡¯d like to use a smaller width bead of black silicone against the glass and the frame for a much neater look and a bead of white around the frame and the surrounding cabin top wall. I¡¯m thinking a 1/8¡± bead, maybe even a 1/16¡± bead which is about the thickness of the frame, but I¡¯m not sure if the thinner bead would compromise the seal. I¡¯m open to suggestions. 3. One poster recommends Permatex Windshield Sealer and details the procedure he followed very carefully. I¡¯m wondering how the Permatext has been holding up in the harsh marine environment. 4. I¡¯m also considering painting or powder coating the frame and eventually all the frames. I¡¯ve used Interlux Perfection Hatteras Off White on my overhead hatches and the color matches the gelcoat nicely. Again, any advice or alternatives would be appreciated. Very Wet Bilge
25
Hello Everyone, I have a 1990 425 that I bought about a year ago. I'm not new to sailing, but am new to boat ownership. I noticed that the bilge keeps getting wet so I wiped it dry and disconnected the bilge pump for several days. I vacuumed out the water this morning with a ShopVac to accurately measure the amount of water. I'm getting about 4 gallons per day. That's a heck of a lot. All that I have been able to see this far is that there is a small leak from around the Jabsco electric toilet, and a small puddle underneath the stuffing box. Neither of these seem to be very threatening at all, but there is also a trail of wetness coming from a hole that goes from the stuffing box area towards the aft vis-a-vis underneath the companion way step, into the Racor filter compartment which then leads to a larger hole that leads to ??. These are just trails of wet with very small amounts of actual water. It's hard for me to fathom that these trails would produce 4 gallons of water per day in the bilge. I am in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where there is no hope of reliable services nor a marine parts outlet. I feel stuck and need to get out of here. I'm hesitant to sail to a US port until I believe the boat is ready to safely sail for several days at a time. Thank you for reading this far and for any help and thoughts you can offer. Best regards, Augustin VE7OXS SV Rhapsody S425
