Cleaning out the closet 6
Hi Folks, I am finally trying to do something about all the stuff. First up is offering this group first dibs. They are all offered at your best offer plus shipping. I am happy to give as many details as I can about any item you are interested in. They are: Sea frost freezer unit Worked great when it left the boat. I just reworked my frig and put in a bigger freezer. It is 10¡±W x 11¡±D x 7¡±H . Folding Teak Cockpit Table, never used. I can¡¯t remember why I have this one. RayMarine 24¡± 48 mile Digital Radar Dome. No Cable. Worked great when it left the boat. I downsized to a smaller Doppler radar. I took of the Raymarine decal when it was new. I couldn¡¯t work out an endorsement deal with them but it makes for a clean white dome. Folding swim ladder. Ment for sugar scoop folding up to transom. Jack Rabbet Marine 125 Amp Alternator. Working fine when pulled off of the boat. I repowered and went with Alt.that would fit new engine. Again best offer plus shipping. Help a guy out¡. Solar Panels on Bimini with Split Backstay 45
My main winter project is upgrading the electrical charging system: Part 1 of new alternator / regulator / monitoring is underway. Part 2 is adding solar; am on a mooring so shore power charging is limited, and for cruising. Has anyone with a split backstay been able to add solar panels to their bimini? My bimini has a forward, mid and aft support frame, and several sources advise against having a panel lay fore / aft across a frame member as it creates a flex point which will break down the panel. I possibly could fit several 50W panels [presumably wired at least in part in series] but that seems inefficient and higher cost. Anyone come up with a solution for bimini solar? The dodger is a secondary possibility, but there is more shading, especially when sailing. And the wiring access would be more complicated. In the archives Jordan mentions having to redesign the bimini frame to get this to work, but that is not something I want to do. TIA Brian Escapade S426 CT / LIS Has anyone with a split backstay

Seacock Grease 7
Before I purchase a tube of seacock grease I thought I would check with the forum on the possibility of using a tube of NLGI Grade 2 Lithium grease that I have hanging around. This is a medium density non-hydrocarbon grease. I also have a tube of Lewmar Geargrease made with Calcium Sulphonate. Thoughts? Thanks, Dave G Serenade 1983 S-34-1 #184 NB, Canada

Deck/caprail Fillet 9 #362Sabre #Sabre362
I am stripping and varnishing all the brightwork on my 362 and am considering removing the factory installed plastic fillet where the caprail meets the deck. It's a mess after years of use and several prior efforts to varnish without good clean-up. I imagine that it's opening up a can of worms so I thought I'd ask you folks what you've discovered if you've done this work yourselves? Was it bonded with 5200? Remove with a heatgun or chemical stripper? Thanks, Tom Malone Sabre 362 #173 Port Townsend, WA

Cove stripe "S" 20
We have a 1981 34 hull #113 and are going to redo our cove stripe. The "S" had been missing so I have nothing to duplicate. I was wondering if anyone knows of a template I could use? What are the dimensions of the "S"? Judy Ambrosius

Refrigerator insulation 8
On my 362 there¡¯s a space between the hull and the refrigerator that would benefit from better insulation. I was thinking of making a hole (or two) in the bottom of the food storage bin, located above this space, and squirting insulation foam inside this space. I was wondering if anyone has done this, what their results were, what type of foam they used, and how much? Sabre 38 Mk2 rod rigging open style turnbuckles 10
Hi All, I just had my insurance survey. Glad to say all went well, except that the surveyor identified what looks like hairline cracks on the inside of one of the ¡°open style¡± cap shroud turnbuckles and a similar line on the inside of one of the lower shroud turnbuckles. My rigger says it is unlikely to be a crack on that style of turnbuckle body, but he hasn¡¯t seen it yet. Since I¡¯m going to take the boat to sea, I am willing to change them all out an I am looking at Hayn 3/8¡±-24 x 5-1/2 and 1/2¡±- 20 x 6-1/2¡± bodies, but don¡¯t know if these have the correct threads for the rod rigging ends on a Sabre 38 Mk2. Does anyone know exactly what the normal thread pitch is? -- Pete Waterson ¡°Chardonnay¡± S38-2 Oriental, NC

Epoch 12V 460Ah LFP battery on Sabre 362? 10
Hi all, I've been holding off on LFP battery conversion but the tariff thing is alarming so I'm considering the substantial purchase of an Epoch 12V 460Ah V2 Elite Series battery for our 362. Does anyone know if this particular Group D size battery fits under the starboard berth? This battery is quite a bit taller than the Group 31s I have in there now (and I'm away from the boat and can't measure). I realize there's more to LFP conversion than swapping the battery. Enlarging the mastgate 8
Good Evening I'd like to install a tides marine mast track on my 34-2. The current mastgate is too short and too low for their product to slide into the luff grove. I would need to enlarge the mastgate by 6.5". Has anyone done this, enlarged their mastgate? Some suggest using a grinder. Is this crazy or not a big deal? Greg Duet 34-2 338

Datamarine Anemometer- wind speed cups aren't moving 9
So, I save up, buy a new Raymarine Axiom+9RV and Quantum 2 Doppler radar combo, they will be wired in next week sometime...only to take the boat out Wednesday and notice my wind direction indicator works but the speed cups are not moving. No wind speed data. What are my options? I can't seem to find just a replacement for the wind direction indicator and the anemometer at the top of the mast. (I don't want to buy used. Don't really know what I would be getting.) Anyone know if this - guessing - 10 plus year Datamarine display at the helm would connect to newer Raymarine atop the mast? I am guessing, just guessing, the current signal is 0183? I know they make a 0183 to NEMA 2000, do they make a NEMA 2000 to 0183 going the other direction? - AND OR - does my current Datamarine display connect to the current SeaTalk or RayNet? If so, can I buy just a new arm with wind direction and speed cups? The local electronics tech is about to move the birds nest of connections of my SeaTalk from under the starboard v-birth to the storage locker up near the companion way. So now would be the time to fix this, adding a little scope creep to my install project. So, is it time to bite an even bigger bullet and replace the whole thing for a project cost of almost $2K.Please someone give me a good answer to save some dollars here! My running riggers suggested I go wireless and use the new Axiom+9RV as the display. But, that seems to be a crowded display in that scenario? Bottom pic, Nav screen, adding wind speed and direction too? I just want and wish wish I could just use my existing Datamarine display at the helm and only replace what is needed topside the mast. **ALSO - side note - I just bought a new Airmar P79 Transducer (internal) to give me bottom views and depth for the Axiom+9RV. Anyone have any experience with how well that will or won't work? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated ! Verne Sabre 32 "About Time" MYC - Mobile Al

362 Yanmar-Kanzaki transmission removal 8
Our Hurth-Kanzaki KBW-10 transmission has developed a massive oil leak from the output shaft. We're now on the hard, and I'm looking to pull the transmission to service over winter. Has anyone done this? The bottom two bolts are quite inaccessible and it's looking like I'll need to jack up the rear of the Yanmar, complicating an otherwise straightforward job. We're also replacing the PSS. What is best practice to pull the flange from the prop shaft? I've disconnected and pulled it back, but the flange on is pretty solid. If I use a puller to get it off, how best to get it reinstalled? Thanks in advance. /Ed -- SV Enigma, Sabre 362 #199 Lake Erie @ Sandusky, OH

Headliner for S452 10
I am in the process of repairing the headliner in the main cabin of my 2001 Sabre 452. Much of the vinyl material has separated and there are many sags and bubbles. With a lot of previous help and feedback from previous posts on this forum I have gained enough information (and confidence) to start the project. All ceiling trim has now been removed, and I am taking down the 4-5 plywood pieces in the ceiling where the headliner is attached. I have purchased 3M adhesive #76 and #90. Glen Chaplin states Sabre uses (used?) 3M #90 for the headliner work in the factory. My question is: I am asking this forum if you know where I can purchase the headliner material: NAUGAHYDE VINYL, BRIGHT WHITE SF-79 (thanks to Glen Chaplin at Sabre for the info). The NAUGAHYDE is glued to an 1/8 layer of white dense foam which again is glued to the plywood. I have purchased the foam, but all the NAUGAHYDE vendors I have checked to date only sell wholesale. Also, as a backup, I am contemplating contacting an upholstery shop in the area (NY metro/NJ) to get some help with this project. Any advice greatly appreciated. Cost of insurance survey? 15
Wondering what folks are paying for an insurance survey these days? I was just quoted $32 per foot which seemed a bit steep from my last one but that was 10 years ago.

Mast step Rot. 27 #maststeprot #Sabre38
I know I am plowing old ground here but can someone tell me a ball park figure for replacing the mast step on a sabre 38? I took her to a reputable boatyard in Salem to fine out and they said fogettaboutit it is not a problem. I was happy for about an hour and a half. I guess they are just too busy. I am trying to see if the repair will cost more than the boat is worth. Thanks -- Thomas Wanderer Sabre 38 Celebration

Spade Anchor on 362 Question 36
Greetings, The thread from this morning got me re-started on acquiring a new anchor. I really want a Spade, but wondering if it can fit through the Bow Pulpit with the chain attached. We leave our vessel on a mooring in Rockland a few weeks each year, and I always put our 35 lb Lewmar Delta in the locker when we are away to avoid it tangling with the pendant. (Marine How To has a section on why this is important!! :)) I think one of the Dave's has a Spade on his 362? Do you ever pull it back through the Pulpit? Thanks. -- Triona Sabre 362 #132 Sachems' Head Ct

Rear Chainplate Pitted 362 5
Hello, I am adding a Harken Hydraulic Backstay to my 1994 Sabre 362. One of the twin rear chainplates looks fairly pitted and I am thinking I should consider replacing it since it will now be under more load at times. Does anyone know where I could source this part? See attached pictures. Thank You! Jim Vetterlein Sabre 362 Northeast, MD
