Would not accept the survey. I then initiated search for company that would.

Re: Cost of insurance survey?
Hello Jim. We are insured with marine/home/3autos and umbrella coverage with Amica. Did they specify their choice a surveyor from the local area? And how long age was the survey done? Was it done for an agreed value type policy? Our boat hasn¡¯t been surveyed in 20 yrs and they¡¯ve not said a word yet.

Re: Cost of insurance survey?
I just this week paid $30/ft in San Francisco for an in the water insurance survey. It was more thorough than I expected and probably more than the insurance company needs. Still I was happy to have the boat get a good look over in case I was missing something.

Re: Cost of insurance survey?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMy understanding is cost for a survey is typically based on length. The rate you pay for insurance after the survey will vary as you point out.

Re: Cost of insurance survey?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýInsurance isn't based on length but agreed valuation and all of
the little fine print that limits the insurer's risk like
deductibles, navigation limits, and, big time, exposure to
hurricane risks. On 4/11/2025 9:12 AM, Dave Witherill

Wondering what folks are paying for an insurance survey these days? ? I was just quoted $32 per foot which seemed a bit steep from my last one but that was 10 years ago.

Hi Tim,?
?
As work progresses, I will do my best to keep you all informed with photos and information. If the yard thinks building and welding a stainless steel box is no longer a good option, we will pivot to G10 as they have the tools to easily cut the material. G10 will probably be much more expensive due to labor, but I want the work to be done right! ?The yard should be starting next week. ? ?? |
Re: Sabre 38 Mk2 rod rigging open style turnbuckles
How old is your rigging? If it¡¯s original then you should be looking at replacement particularly if going offshore. Stemballs etc. maybe in the same shape as the turnbuckles. Mine was 25years old and looked great but my rigger was like it¡¯s 25 years old! Best investment I made and peace of mind offshore was worth it!

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPete,?Do you have wire or rod? ?If you have rod I would suggest you use the ¡°Navtec¡± fittings from Hayn. ?They are the only ones that the ball tips fit into the spreaders properly¡ don¡¯t ask why I know this. Allison Lehman Swiftsure Yachts allison@... Cell: 510.912.5800 Fax: 510.860.4640

I sold the boat years ago and do not have the survey photos.? I bought the boat from fellow lawyer Joel Aronson, who might have some information. ** James H. Wilson, Jr. Attorney & Counsellor at Law ** On Thu, Apr 10, 2025 at 6:20?AM Tim Smith via <tim.smith.phd=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Sabre 38 Mk2 rod rigging open style turnbuckles
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯ve replaced mine but offhand I don¡¯t recall the thread pitch. Measure the stud diameter and contact rigrite. They¡¯ll be able to provide the proper turnbuckle. Opt for chromed ?bronze not stainless, that way you won¡¯t inadvertently gall the stud threads.Len Bertaux Walkabout S38mkii Prides Crossing On Apr 10, 2025, at 7:10?AM, Pete Waterson via groups.io <peterjwaterson@...> wrote:
