Re: Inverter/Charger

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCheck the specs closely. The 16a may be a 240v 16a as Euro power comes in 16 and 32 amp versions of 240v single phase.Dave Second Star S362 #113 Fair Haven, NY/Lake Ontario

Re: Life Raft disposal
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDave,We had a similar situation on Isle of SKYE. We ended up donating our 4 person LR to a local youth sailing club to practice an abandon ship ( in the pool). Though years past the re-pack deadline, it worked perfectly for them. Im sure the provisions were
a tad stale.

Re: Inverter/Charger

Andy, Arcadia still has that same Heart inverter/charger, so we may also be ready for something newer soon. I'm curious: What 120 V loads do?you have that would add up to more than 16A? Hair dryer and microwave at the same time? Usually heavy loads like the water heater or an A/C would be wired so they only work on shore power and not go through the transfer switch. Life Raft disposal
I have a Winslow 4 person liferaft in a hard case.? Cert ran out 12/23.? It was manufactured 2002.? Given its age, the likelihood of a successful inflation test is low and, for the price of the repack of this high end raft ($1600 estimate), I can get a new Revere 4 person suited to my not going further than ~100 miles offshore.? Also, it has a 5 year service interval which is a $$ saver.? Evidently it's the flares that cause the typical 3 year limit.
1. Anyone that wants it is welcome to it.? It's in Western MA now & my first trip to Maine is in May.? I am keeping the cradle to adapt for a subsequent raft.
2. Disposal.? I guess it needs to be opened up, probably inflated, and cylinder, flares etc removed.? It would actually be interesting put out on the lawn and yank the painter & watch er go.
3. So the question is, anything to be done with this other than take up landfill space?

Can¡¯t speak to a 402 but had a similar decision to make on our 362. ?Wanted the 3k Victron MP, instead did the 2k MP due to space restrictions. ?Several years in, very happy with it?

Inverter/Charger
#Sabre402
Hi Folks:
?
The original Heart Interface Freedom 10 charger/invert, (1KVA) on my S402 has stopped functioning. It is located in a locker under the settee just forward of the Nav station. I was wondering what choices people have made for charger/inverts on the S402. The space in the existing locker about 16" L x11.5"w x 8" deep. is too short for any for the Victron offerings except their 3KVA Multiplus unit which looks to like it might fit but very close on the depth dimension. ?
Victron also is offering a new 1.2kVA unit that would fit nicely but its transfer switch capacity is only 16 A. ?
?
Last year I had upgraded the battery system to 4 -100 Ah LiFeP batteries with a Zeus regulator and a 170 amp alternator. This is all working great for how we use the boat. I was surprised how little power we actually use on a daily basis while cruising. ?Habits of cruising on boats with low capacity electrical systems don't just go away..
?
I would be delighted to hear what others have done.
?
A few pictures of the old unit and the battery install under the Nav seat are included.
?
Best,
Andy

Re: 402 head/shower drains
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOur solution is still a work in progress. The plan is to put a dam where the old sump box was located, let the water drain there and use a Whale low profile bilge pump to pump it up and out the sink drain. The dam is in and that is as far as the project has gottenDave Second Star S362 #113 Fair Haven, NY/Lake Ontario

Re: 402 head/shower drains
Hi All,
Our 362 has similar problems with the shower drain and the fact that the shower box is small, overflows, and is no longer available. I took the shower drain fitting apart and it is a very tight space and as I remeber the head and shower drain were plumbed poorly to the shower sump box and then the float switch activated pump would pump out of the shower box to the sink drain. Currently thinking about using the Gulley IC grey waste pump for the shower. Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Perhaps drain the head side drain to the bilge as it is only there for an emergency - seldom used.

Re: 402 head/shower drains
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI find it difficult to believe that the
head drain ties into the wet exhaust. Pumping exhaust gases into
the head is not such a great idea.? Maybe it's the intake line for
the manual bilge pump?

Re: Canvas cover for Sabre 36?
Two considerations:? 1) go to a specialist like Fairclough. I have had a Fairclough frame and canvas on my 402 for 10 years. I'm in Toronto so at least 6 months of harsh winter. Has only needed minor repair.? Choice 2) buy a very cheap polyethylene tarpaulin in Canada we can get a 20ft X 40ft one? for less that $100 at Canadian Tire.? It may only require a partial frame that can be made with 2x4's or PBS. You can replace every year.? Just some things to consider. Mike Sabre 402 #37 Lake Ontario

Re: Canvas cover for Sabre 36?
Depends on if you want custom forever, ?custom lasts well, or DIY. ?I made mine from the diy description on Sailrite and have been very pleased. ?One support PVC did break this winter 5 seasons already but the frame was cracked in the Fall so I risked too far. ??
not for the faint of heart but the fabric choice is excellent if you have it made of Aqualon.?

Re: Replacing 402 hot water heater
Yes it went in but on a slight angle with all the fixtures? facing the head. This made the connections all accessible from either the stairs or the head access panel.? I put a piano hinge on the bottom step so it could be easily opened for access. Just like the winch storage stair.? It also gave me a place to store the empty wine bottles and beer cans.? The hoses were long enough to be connected.? Having the stair access makes it very easy disconnect the water system to install a bypass for winterizing and draining.? Mike Sabre 402 #37?? Thanks David and Mike, I am not at the boat now to measure the space. How are your Isotemp heaters mounted - sideways, i.e. with the pipes pointing toward the shower, or with the pipes pointing forward? And did you need to extend or replace the hoses to the engine, or did the original hoses fit? Re: 402 head/shower drains
Still haven't figured out where my small fresh water leak is coming from (I am assuming it's a loose clamp), but I did find out where the shower and head drains go. With all of your comments, you were correct about the shower traveling to the pump under the sink. Some mentioned that the head drain ends at the bilge while others said theirs tied into the shower drain. Ours is tied to what I believe is our wet exhaust line. You can see the shower drain hose (smaller black hose) under the head drain hose. ( gotta love the endoscope!)
