Re: Keel bolts

If you just want to re-torque the nuts, you just need to loosen them slightly, before re-torquing. ? It's not actually necessary to remove them.? It's probably a good idea to remove them in order to look for corrosion on the bolts where the nuts normally sit.? That can happen.? If you are satisfied that there aren't any leaks around the bolts, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to remove the washers and rebed.?

I suspect there are a lot of vintage Sabres out there with keel boats that have never been re-torqued.? I check mine at each haulout, since it's pretty simple to do.? But I only haul out about every three years.?

You are definitely overthinking it. Could any of those things happen? Yes.

Do your research, learn from others experiences by searching the forum.?

I made sure the area was dry around the bolts, and use some penetrating oil before attempting to loosen the nuts. Remember.. on the hard WITH the keel blocked. I remove the nuts and the washers and injected sealant, where it needed to be injected. I then installed the new washers and nuts and torqued to 90 pounds.

Easy. ( which is saying something when you're working on a boat).
