Shari Pi4U Questions 8
Good Evening I¡¯m first would say I¡¯m a newbie to Allstar and I¡¯m looking for help with understanding a few items. 1) Am I correct the Shari Pi4U would plug into a USB port on my Raspberry Pi? 2) Once I have the image from the link Steve provided me, I would be able to access the Shari with my HT? 73¡¯s Dennis KD9ULM

SHARI using the Pi5
The Pi5 is way more powerful than is needed for an Allstar node but we are hams so we like to experiment and several SHARI customers had emailed me to ask if a SHARI node could be built using the Pi5. I also received an email from Duane, K7YY with information about his succesful build of a SHARI Pi5 node. Since 52Pi now offers two cases for the Pi5, I decided to build one and if successful, document the build and offer a kit for sale to Kits 4 Hams customers. There are two 52Pi cases available for the PI5. One uses copper heatsinks on four of the Pi5 IC's. This is the case I used. The other one uses an official Raspberry Pi active cooler. I found that, with the SA818 in transmit 100% of time, the CPU temperature in the unit I built reached about 55 degrees C. Since this is about 15 degrees lower than the temperature where the OS begins to throttle the CPU speed, I did not bother to test the second case and designed our kit around the case using just the copper heatsinks and a fan. Duane used the other case with the active cooler so he had to use a GPIO connector spacer and taller standoffs to permit the active cooler to be installed on the CPU with the SHARI PiHat board above it. You must use the ASL3 image for the Pi5. Also, Duane discovered that a slight change is required in the ASL3 image in order for the Pi5 to program the SA818S using the Pi5 UART. The file /boot/firmware/cmdline must be modified by adding console=serial0,115200 to the end of the current line in the file. This change is included in the manual. The link to our new SHARI PiHAt 52Pi/Pi5 Case kit is: https://kits4hams.com/shari-pihat-52pi-case-using-a-pi5 A link to the construction and setup document is available there. If you are interested in the kit, just email us at kits4hams@gmail,com and ask for the SHARI PiHat 52Pi Case order form. Steve - N8AR

Ways to order a SHARI 2
Hello Steve, Is PayPal the only method of payment? Reason I¡¯m asking is our PayPal account was compromised and we quit PayPal a few years back. Otherwise I will need to check with our kids. 73¡¯s Dennis KD9ULM

Fully Assembled SHARI Pi3U or Pi4U PC board 4
Good Evening, Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area, but I hope you can help me understand what I¡¯m getting. I was told I need a device like yours to connect the DVswitch mobile app to and connect to Allstar. 1) What are the 2 USB ports used for? I presume one is a connection to the PC? 2) Is a power supply come with Pi3U or Pi4U? If not, what do I need to power the board? 3 Do either of the units come with an Ethernet connection? If not, do i connect to my WI-FI? Thank you in advance, 73¡¯s Dennis KD9ULM

If you mean by "config-file", configuring the SA818, you now use sa818-menu from the Bash shell

Disable Shari PiHat Green Blinking Light 5
Hello, I am a new Ham and new to Allstar, and just built my Shari PiHat Allstar node last week. I keep my new node in the living room so I can have a hard line to my router and the SA818 comm status green blinking light makes a great disco light, but is a little distracting when trying to watch TV. Does anyone happen to know where that command line is located so I can comment "out" the status light, or is their a setting somewhere I'm missing, or possibly another alerterntive beside covering the led. I have the 52pi build with the Lexan "smoked" cover which definetly allows you to see all of the lights. My rationale is that if I have a "comm" issue, I'll be logging into the node anyway and I can comment "in" the status light. Thanks for the help, Rick N4RIK

Shari PiHatU (Unistorm) beeping upon bootup 5
Just a quick heads up.. I pulled my Shari PiHat U off the shelf after being off for 8-9 months. I was in the midst of updating all my images with SuperMon7.4+. Two of my previous nodes completed upgrades fine. However, when plugging in my Unistorm, it booted up, was seen on the network, but proceeded to PTT and send beep on monitor receiver repeatedly. I would say the beep was every second. It would never stop even after a couple reboots. Finding: All the beeping disappeared, and Unistorm was back to working like it did 9 months back, AFTER I unplugged the other RPI based Allstar nodes I had live and online. I am guessing this beeping stemmed from port conflicts. 73 Mark

Random keyups with PiHatU 8
I assembled my PiHatU with the Unistorm case and set up a frequency and CTCSS tone. The unit would randomly key up as if it received a signal, but no signal was sent, It even did this if disconnected from the network. I changed the frequency and the tone and it still happened. I then changed from using CTCSS to DPL and problem stopped. I do have another PiHatU (original case) and it does not have this issue. Anyone else experience this or know what is going on?

WiFi issue on SHARI PiHatU (Unistorm) 3
After I put together my PiHatU and tried to connect it to my Wifi (2.4G), it would either not connect at all or connect for a short time then disconnect. When I switched to a 5G connection (same access point), it works fine. I am wondering if the all metal Unistorm case may be causing issues on 2.4G. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

Paul COS
In setting up the Paul I¡¯m unable to successfully trigger COS in the simple usb tune utility. I can probe the pinout and watch it trigger however this is never detected by the software. Any suggestions?

Fails Asterisk touch-tone test 2
I'm having problems with a new Pi-Star 4 and SHARI Pi4U. I purchased the preconfigured SD-Card but it wouldn't open port 222 and could not login to root with any or no password. SO - I built a new SD-Card following the posted instructions. It is working EXCEPT when I test audio and touch-tones. Using SimpleUSB-Tune-Menu, item 2, I think I see levels (not a solid line), but when I go to the Asterisk CLI to test touch tones, I get the attached errors. Pressing any touch tone, I hear the SHARI announce the IP addee, call sign, etc. It receives 1 more tone and stops. KC3YGF

Shari node not receiving my HT 10
Good afternoon, On Monday I received my Shari USB radio that I use on a Pi4B. It works well in Hamvoip, but not in ASL V3. I got all kinds of errors while programming it via the sa818-menu, untill I changed it to /dev/tty0USB. Now I can hear Allison talking. When keying up, however, there is nothing happening. I checked asterisk -rv, but nothing is coming in. All the settings on the HT (RT3S) I'm using, is correct, because it works in Hamvoip. ASL V3 also works with Repeater Phone on iOS. Any ideas? Below are some screenshots of simple USB and sa818-menu. -- 73 (Kind regards), Hendrik (ZS6HBS) Please visit my QRZ page at https://www.qrz.com/db/zs6hbs

ASL3 DTMF not recognized 11
My node is a setup up with the new ASL3 and Supermonwith my Shari. All is working well except I cannot input DTMF codes on the radio to establish links or get status. All of this works fine in Allmon3 and SuperMon just not directly from my radios. The DTMF codes are recognized in the Asterisk CLI with no problem. What am I missing? Thanks Joe AF1E

Beep after transmission 3
Hi, how can I disable the beep after every transmission from the Allstar node (ShariPi)? "Roger beep" is that how it's called? Cheers, Sander - VK6PI

ASL3 echolink 9
Greetings: Has anyone gotten the echolink module in ASL3 working? Mine downloads the database, as shown by asterisk -rx "echolink dbdump" however, any call results in a message like this. asl508422*CLI> rpt fun 508422 *33009999 *CLI> -- Call for node el0/009999 on echolink/el0-0, failed. Node not found in database. However, if I do asterisk -rx "echolink dbdump" | grep 9999 root@asl508422:/home/patrick# asterisk -rx "echolink dbdump" | grep 9999 899993|SK6RIC-R|70.34.202.109 9999|*ECHOTEST*|54.176.61.77 999972|KJ6YSS|44.31.127.3 root@asl508422:/home/patrick# All those nodes matched the non-explicit pattern of 9999, but *echotest* was listed, as you can see above. Though I'm pretty sure my firewall is configured correctly (tested with another known-working HamVoIP chan_echolink module, only replacing the IP address), incoming connections never seem to make it to the server in the first place. If I change the forwarded IP back to the HamVoIP node and re-enable it's echolink module (yes, I made sure it was off while the ASL3 chan_echolink was enabled), I can make outgoing connections and accept incoming ones on that node, so I'm not sure what's going on there. If I do netstat -n --udp --listen to list all UDP listeners, among those are: udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5198 0.0.0.0:* udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5199 0.0.0.0:* so that looks good. 73 N2DYI

increasing audio bandwidth on ASL3 5
Greetings: I've just discovered that, since ASL3 runs modern Asterisk, I can connect ASL3 nodes together using slin16 (raw 16 kHz linear PCM), and both the usbradio and simpleusb drivers do, in fact, allow for that little extra bit of high end to come through the connection. HamVoIP, while it supports G722, which is a 16 kHz codec, hard filters the highs on it's simpleusb channel driver, so there isn't much point other than for compatibility to do this, but ASL3's drivers are capable of passing more highs. This would be especially great for repeater controllers, as with a properly calibrated system, you could achieve audio that sounds more like simplex than it would at 8 kHz. I tried this test with a SHARI connected to a radio-less node. To do this, I put allow => slin16 allow => slin at the top of the codec priority lists in /etc/asterisk/iax.conf under the general and radio stanzas of both nodes. This won't work with HamVoIP or anything older than ASL3. Just FYI. I am way more excited about this than I probably should be, considering it probably won't be widely deployed. 73 N2DYI

ASL3 on a SHARI 4
If your node is not being keyed up by your radio - If you have the SA818 setup to use CTCSS be sure to enable it on your radio.. Make sure that Item J in simpleUSB is "no". [i.e.Change CTCSS From (currently 'no')] Also be sure that Item B) Toggle RX Boost is disabled
