SHARI Availability Update.
Our order for assembled SHARI SMT boards is now in production. The good news is the bare PC board fabrication is complete. However the order shows a projected PCB SMT assembly time of 55 to 70 days. Steve - N8AR

SHARI USB Connectivity
4
While the world melts down due to COVID-19, and we wait for the supply of SHARI's to come back, I wanted to ask a quick question. Can the SHARI be used with a standard USB hub? I'm hoping to order one, but I'm wanting to mount mine on top to make it a bit more portable and prevent damage to the USB connectors. I wasn't sure how the two USB connections were set up, if one was power and the other was control, or what. I plan to use it to replace the Motorola on my "portable" Allstarlink hub which uses the Hamvoip image. Mike

New SHARI build, LED lights operate but no radio communication - SOLVED
#construction
A friend built a SHARI node. While the unit seemed to communicate with the Raspberry PI ok, and the LED lights indicated it was working, there was no actual radio communication with the node. Upon examination, a solder issue was noted at the transceiver module. The transceiver, the large silver rectangular component, has some "castellated" cut-outs where it is soldered to the circuit board. Due to a thin layer of insulation on the bottom of the module it doesn't quite touch the solder pads. As a result it is possible to fully wet the solder pad without actually connecting to the module. A proper joint should flow solder from the pad up into the castellated cut-out. But not too much; piling up too much solder could short the connections to the transceiver's shield on top of the module. After repairing the solder connections, the SHARI node now operates normally. A photo of the as-found condition is attached. Jerry, K8GNG

New file uploaded to [email protected]
Hello, This email message is a notification to let you know that the following files have been uploaded to the Files area of the [email protected] group. /shari-pixx-prog Uploaded By: N8AR <n8ar73@...> Description: This file (shari-pixx-prog) is the 818-prog Python program we have been using to program SHARI with the added capability to issue the "Close Tail Tone" command. Since this command turns on/off CTCSS reverse burst, the setting in the program is called CTCSS Reverse Burst. Setting it to 0 means no reverse burst (and thus a squelch tail) while setting it to '1' turns on reverse burst. Cheers, The Groups.io Team

Removing "Squelch Crash" when using SHARI
3
#CTCSS_reverse_burst
#programing
There is a discussion on the HamVOIP ARM-allstar list about how to remove the 'squelch crash' when using SHARI. This is typically done using CTCSS with reverse burst. For this to work, the radio you are using to talk to your SHARI must support reverse burst. The SA818 used in SHARI can be programmed to send/not send reverse burst but that command is not included in the 818-prog program that we have been using to program SHARI. It turns out that the default setting for the SA818 in SHARI is reverse burst turned on. I use a Kenwood TH-F6A and hear no squelch tail with it turned on. I have modified the 818-prog program to include the capability to set reverse burst to off/on. When using the program '0' means no CTCSS reverse burst and '1' means send CTCSS reverse burst. The new program is called shari-pixx-prog and has been uploaded to the File section of this group. If you want to experiment with reverse burst, you can upload it to the /usr/local/sbin folder of your Pi using WinSCP. After you upload it be sure to make it executable by right clicking on it from within WinSCP and checking the three executable boxes (boxes labeled X). You run the program the same way you run 818-prog. Steve - N8AR

2M Shari Kit
2
#programing
Hello everyone, I put together a 2 meter shari kit and I can not get the transceiver chip to #program using the #818-prog. It seems to be stuck on Sending Freq information Any ideas what could be the cause of this or where to start to trouble shoot it? The Pi sees the SHARI as a serial device on ttyUSB0 csh341 uart converter attached to ttyUSB0 -- -Edmund Liddle, KE8ANU

Two SHARI's, one Pi
4
I'm looking to purchase two SHARI's, namely one 2m and one 70cm. Is there any issue with running two on a single Pi? Reason being there are times when I will have a 2 meter only radio, so I kind of want to have the ability to choose either one. The 70cm is also going to function as a repeater from my mobile at times, if I go through with it. I may change plans before then, but just curious.

Shari Harmonic Suppression Question

Steve N8AR, I see the Shari uses the FL1 Low Pass filter device to suppress harmonics from the SA-818 UHF Module. I was wondering what amount of suppression you get from this device? Thanks, Vince - NY5AR

Antennas
2
Hello, I received the 2 meter and 70cm shari kits this week. I put the 2 meter and 70cm antennas on my MFJ antenna analyzer. The 2 meter antenna has a high SWR 10:1 at 146.52 on the 2 meter ham band. The antenna is labeled for 154 MHz. The 70cm antenna is designed for the lower end of the 70cm band it is labeled for 433MHz. at 446.00 the SWR is greater than 5:1 I was wondering how well the transceiver chips will handle a high SWR on the 2 meter band and 70cm band. -- -Edmund Liddle, KE8ANU

Pi4U Received

I received my Pi4U yesterday (assembled unit) and I followed the instructions and was up and running in a half hour. I did already have a Node Number and Password however. I did not even have to make audio adjustment. Many thanks and I have another way to be un-bored during COVID-19 restrictions. -- jb N4NQY

programming DCS in to shari
2
I am wanting to setup a shari to use DCS instead of PL. In all the docs, and scripts, its indicated that you use a 4 digit number to enter the pl tone. when I look at the SA818 manual, it looks like all the dcs codes are 6 digit hex. 025 540F6B Will those codes work if entered in to the script, or does something else need to be done?
