Auto Announcement of IP address on boot

I upgraded my Shari PiHatU to ASL3. Everything works great except I don't get the IP announcement anymore. Is there a fix for this
?
Thanks, Tim

With ASL3 you have DNS service discovery so there is no need to announce the IP address. ?Your browser will happily find "https://your-node-name.local".

No Tim they took it out. If you want it back you need to go back to hamvoip?

They use it to know when there node is back up and running.

I'm sure you can get ASL3 to announce the local IP address, but as somebody else pointed out it's far easier to connect via , which maps [hostname].local to the IP address. I actually installed it on my HamVoIP nodes too.

My browser actually won't happily find due to my specific network configuration. Yes, I know why this is, and yes, it works like this by design.

I have other ways of finding the IP address of whatever my node(s) hostnames are. Just putting it out there that this doesn't work everywhere.

No, you don¡¯t. ASL3 includes a script that reads all IP addresses of the system, but not when the node starts up. You would have to implement that yourself.

Example:
sudo asl-say -n <your-node-number> -w ip4
Substituting your actual node number.
HamVoIP has a script that runs at boot, which evaluates a file containing a few variables, such as whether or not to announce the IP address at startup, and the primary node number. You could re-create all that if you like, or do something more simple to make it read the IP when the pi first boots.

Hearing the node/repeater ID tells me that ?the server is back up and running. ?To me, hearing the local IP address only helps if that's something you need to know and, IMHO, DNS discovery is a much better solution. ?But, I do understand that some also want to know about network connectivity.
?
FWIW, it looks like Freddie Mac has a new video in the queue :

?Hi Brad,
My Clear node is asl3 and it will announce my ip on boot up. I'm confused.

All you have to do is get sayip script from

BTW, that's just a copy of what comes with HamVoIP. Also requires downloading a bunch of GSM files, because ASL3 doesn't use that format for most of it's included sounds.

My man Freddie Mac, the Ham Radio Crusader, has a video premiering that addresses this specific issue tonight at 0047 Zulu. Make sure you check out his channel?as Freddie Mac has done several videos related to the deployment and configuration of ASL3 and how to set up several popular features that were in HamVoip.

Wrong, if you read the script the files were recreated and a whole 3 files are downloaded. Stop spreading false information?

Jory
?
Thank you so much. that worked perfectly

Well it is a port from hamvoip, it was made posix compliant and brought into sync with asl3 so we didn't have to duplicate all the files. Glad you found the script useful to handle all the work.?
