Re: Severe hum that was not there before - SOLVED

Sorry fellas, I fell very ill since posting and been fighting it off in bed. Thank you the replies. The hum is present he the Shari is transmitting to my radio. I will post a video when I am able. I also believe it is something new in the area, maybe new Christmas lights or the like. I will try the no data transmit as well and see what that does. Unit works excellent otherwise and worth every dime. I still can believe I got it working the first time. Setup instruction were terrific. I am not the programmie type so I hope I can muddle through this. Thanks again.?

Re: Severe hum that was not there before - SOLVED

I swore I replied to you fellas but I have been so sick the last few days maybe I imagined that. By recieve I mean what I hear from Shari on my radio. I have moved the unit throughout my house and no change. I think the neighbors may have gotten something new. I will have to try to do the dead carrier think and see. I will post a video clip when I get better. Thanks so far. The unit worked great up until recently. Well still works great and love it but just hum on receive and no complaints from anyone on my audio.?

People who post using the web tend to forget that in email, there's no context, unless you quote the post/comment you're responding to.? It would be good if people did quote every time, but other than constant reminders, I can't see it happening.

I have the same issue, lots of one liner messages like "Yep, that's a good idea", and nothing else, because that line was obviously posted on the web, where you can see the whole thread.? The message you quoted below is a classic symptom of this issue.

Re: Severe hum that was not there before - SOLVED

Provide us with a few more details.
#0. Receive? The Shari receiving or your HT? (by that- the shari is transmitting you (HT) are receiving.*
#1. any new light bulbs or appliances nearby. In your home.
#2. home or apartment? if apartment how many feet to the next neighbor...
#3. Have you tried:
???? a. another power supply?
???? b. another branch circuit in your home...
???? c. Another HT or mobile rig.

*? If you go into the Simple USB Setup by SSHing into the RPI, you can force the Shari to transmit with no data streaming, which would give you what they call a dead carrier..?

My experience with SHARI's and I've had 6 through my hands, built and set up a number for Blind hams. They are excellent in design (albeit the money) extremely well documented and extremely reliable. I have some running 3-4 years without a single problem.

can you post a short video on youtube??

Re: Power outage changed my node IP address

Did you re-forward your ports after???

Re: Pi3 will not boot when SHARI PiHatU GPIO connector is plugged in

My problem has been 100% resolved, thanks to Steve and others.? I was SO certain that my bench 5V supply was healthy that I never checked the output with a simple voltmeter when I started having this trouble.? What I found was the regulator module had failed, and the voltage would sag to below 3.0 volts when the PI would boot.? GADS.? Fixed that, and the SHARI is now up and running !?

Sincere THANKS go out to STEVE, who connected with me directly on a Zoom session to assist, and he got me pointed in the right direction.

Re: Severe hum that was not there before - SOLVED

Please elaborate on what you mean by "receive".? Is this the audio that you transmit to the node that others hear (RX of the SA818 in the node) or audio that you hear listening to your node (RX of the radio you are using to communicate with the node)?

Yes, you should set the node to DHCP and then go into your router and set a reservation for your SHARI, then ensure your port forwarding points to the current IP address. Then, anytime that SHARI turns on. It will retrieve the same IP address, and the reservation will be documented in your routers DHCP server.

Severe hum that was not there before - SOLVED

Hi, can anyone provide some help on a new issue. My Shari Pi3U has been working terrific up until yesterday when I started getting a severe hum on receive. Tried moving the node around the house and still the same. I have the ferrites on the power supply and it is a raspberry supply. Like I said it was working great up until yesterday. Anyone one else have this issue and what was the fix?

Ken - N2VIP's answer is spot-on.

This is the easiest method of ensuring that anything that you don't want changing its IP address, will keep its IP address, no matter what reboots in whatever order.

Re: Power outage changed my node IP address

More info on your setup would be helpful.

?

You don't need to worry about changing the IP in rpt.conf for a single node, it should be pointed to the loopback.

If you have multiple, then you should make static or simply reserve the IP in the router.

?

If you mean the public IP, you should setup a DDNS name for it.? Several free options.

We had a power outage and the node acquired a new IP address. I have updated the IP in rpt.conf, but still no joy. Would appreciate any guidance.
