Allstar Node died 24 hours after SHARI Pi3V install
Not sure what happened.? Running a Pi3B+ Allstar node that I built last year, been running fine as a radio-less node.? Finally got a SHARI to add the radio interface.? I followed the instructions step by step and got the SHARI working fine with all of my HTs.? I did do the the software update to the node and went from there.
Suddenly, after about 24 hours of operation, I cannot log into my Allstar node from any device, wired or wifi, even after multiple restarts. It stopped registering, node #54609.? Before I wipe the SD card and start over (I don't know what else to do), is there anything else I can do or check?? I don't want to end up in the same place.? I am using the same power supply purchased with the PI kit from day one, the node powers up ( I can see the red light) and the SHARI powers up, green light lit.? But no other node activity. Thanks for any thoughts you can provide. 73, Rich, AA3RC |
Musings of a Mad (aka Insane) Allstar Node Owner
开云体育I have had an Allstar Node (43286) connected to my local repeater for some time now, and it developed a problem (which was caused by its owner) a few weeks back.? I decided I needed a personal node here at my QTH to help me troubleshoot this and any other problems. ?I’ve had one.? Took it apart and used the pieces for something else.? And, I didn’t want to pull everything back together. ? So, I ordered a SHARI PiHat.? I chose the option of having the radio pre-soldered to the board out of pure laziness.? No reason I couldn’t have done that myself, and I kind of wish I had.? I received the kit yesterday and spent a couple of hours reviewing the documentation and putting it together.?? Other than the fact that I couldn’t drill a hole in the right spot to save my life, it was one of the easiest builds I’ve ever done. The 3d printed template for drilling the holes was so cool (even though I seem to be dimensionally challenged when it comes to drilling holes).? I love the case.? Best one I’ve seen for a Pi (I’ve seen many). It does seem to function as a rather good heat sink. The LED light block is a great idea. The build quality of the board seems superb. ? The instructions were ALMOST spot on.? They were clear. They were complete. They were easy to follow.? The only criticism I could give on them is that the version I used (from the files folder on Groups.IO) included configuring the boot up options for the serial port and downloading the app to control the radio.? I found that in the version of the image I downloaded (using the link in the documentation) those steps were already complete.? No problem at all.? Just something that could be reviewed in a future release.? Maybe I didn’t use the latest version of the document. ? It’s rare in the ham radio community to find a project like this that is so well built AND that has such great documentation. ?Kudos to the developer of this thing and all who have contributed! ? 73 |

Re: DVSwitch
开云体育Doug,The best way to do what you want to do is the add Analog_Reflector to your DVSwitch Server. What I would do is add and configure AR to work on your DVSwitch Server. Once that works, you can add your AllStar node. Take it slow and UNDERSTAND what the parts do. The last step will be to connect the AllStar node to the DVSwitch Server. Steve? Re: DVSwitch
Hello Steve,
I just sent the requested screenshots.? Thanks for the clarification on node 1999.? If it is not being used, then the process should be simpler.? On the DVSM Account screen, 52993 is being used.? For your information, I have attached my extensions.conf, rpt.conf and iax.conf files, edited to remove my password.? Regards, Doug |

Hi Steve,
Thanks so much for sticking with me!? I really appreciate it.? I think what I am trying to do is even simpler that what you describe.? I already have access to the digital modes using DVSM through the DVSwitch server.? Only need the digital modes available on 52993, so that I can access DMR using my analog radio.? Not sure of the best approach.? I was going to try to set up another node (call it 1000) as a bridge to access DMR on the analog radio, as I believe 1999 is being used to connect the Android devices to the node.? Was not sure of the implications of doing that, since I am already using a USRP connection from DVSM to the DVSwitch server. In summary:
Thanks again. Regards, Doug VE3XDB |

We do not have a technical contact at NiceRF.? Our "sale" person passes our technical issues on to "my engineer".? Because of the language difference, it is very difficult to get them to fix obvious problems which are easy to describe.??

Re: DVSwitch
开云体育Don't worry about diagrams. Define in words what you are trying to accomplish. So, is this correct? Now you want to add the digital modes, and make the digital modes available to 52993 and DVSM? On 7/8/22 16:09, Doug VE3XDB wrote:

开云体育Stephen, Yes, that’s exactly the way it is behaving. It is really unfortunate that the RX tone squelch doesn’t behave like most other radios. We’ve invested in this nice compact solution for repeater linking and now it appears that we’ll need to scrap it and build a mobile radio based solution. Re: DVSwitch
Hello Steve,
Thanks again for your response.? I'm no expert, but I think it is working like this.? My node is 52993, and is allowing my analog radio to access Allstar and Echolink using SimpleUSB.? I am also able to access Allstar and Echolink using my Android devices.? I think it is using node 1999 and Dahdi/pseudo.? On the DVSwitch server side, I am able to use my Android devices to access the digital modes.? My desired state is to add the capability to access the digital modes using my analog radio. ? I've attached a crude drawing of how I THINK it is working, and showing how I wish to enhance it.? I don't mind running the two Raspberry Pi's, but it would be fine if I had to put everything on one Pi, or use another Pi.? Hardware isn't an issue. ?? |

开云体育Tom, ? Sorry the response bugged you. Sometimes? the news you hear is not what you wanted to hear. I gave you that answer based on experience that I have had with the SA818 modules. As Steve N8AR explained the issue is in the firmware of the SA818 mfg by NICE. Let me know how you make out with getting NICE to change that. ? Rich ? I have professional-grade SDR hardware I was using for this (an Ettus USRP, not to be confused with the USRP channel driver for DVswitch) that I replaced with the Shari hardware. Partly because I wanted to use the USRP for something else, and partly to eliminate the cabling and power wires.? ? Sometimes the integrated solution matters.
