rpt.conf receive delay setting?
Shawnerz
OK,
I'm going to open myself up for criticism and I'll probably get at least 1 "I told you so!" email. Go ahead. I earned it. ? I have a SHARI-Pi set up to transmit on the input of our local VHF repeater (Kenwood TK-750) and I have it set to receive on the output. People who've done this before at probably screaming at their computer, "OMG, NO!!" Well, it's not *that* bad. And, I can't think that I'm the only one to have done this. The problem is, when the SHARI-Pi stops transmitting, the repeater is still transmitting. The hang time on the VHF repeater is fairly long (3 seconds or so). The SHARI-Pi sees the RF from the repeater as activity and goes in to transmit. It drops after about a second, but by this time, the repeater sees the Pi's activity and goes back in to transmit. This cycle repeats indefinitely. In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf, I found the hangtime and althangtime values. I changed them and they had no effect. I didn't expect them to change anything. I was hoping to find a rxdelay setting of some sort. I was hoping to find a setting that determined how long a valid RF signal had to be detected by the SA818 before it goes into transmit. Is there a parameter I missed that sets this value? Or, am I going about this the wrong way? I really am trying to avoid directly integrating the Pi into the Kenwood repeater. For our installation, an RF AllStar integration solution is much easier. Thank you very much, -Shawn (N6REP) |
Re: COR Settings
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? ¡°When it deploys, it will be augmenting our club VHF repeater, W5NNI, on our VHF repeater frequencies.¡± ? I hope you mean you will be integrating the Pi into the repeater set up directly, NOT through an RF link. The shari is not intended for that application. Get an interface intended for repeater use, like a DMK URI, something from Masters communications etc. Set the node up for full duplex operation. ? |
Re: COR Settings
Shawnerz
The node number *is* correct.
However, the callsign you have is *not* correct. Our club callsign is W5NNI. QRZ link here:
From where I'm sitting, the Allstarlink site has our node listed with the correct callsign.
For the record, I'm Shawn, N6REP. I know it doesn't mean anything, but I am the current president of the MFARC and can also be reached at president@....
Thanks,
-Shawn

Re: COR Settings
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý> I have most of my node (64402) configured. ? Is that node number correct? ? That shows W5NI on the Allstarlink site, and when I look up that callsign on QRZ, I get: WILLIAM K HULSE 10904 NE BLACKWELL RD LEES SUMMIT, MO 64086-6624 USA ? ? |
Re: COR Settings
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSince you don't have a call sign, no idea where you are located.
But . . . if you are in the USA, you should never put a device on
a national calling frequency (such as 146.52 MHz). It is a calling
frequency. ----- Original Message -----

Re: COR Settings
First, the COS LED is inoperative until you enable it as explained in this document in the Files section of this group
?
?
But you can see whats happening by looking at selection V in the Tune Interface CLI
?
?
Be sure CTCSS is Off (selection J above)
?
Also make sure you are in the correct mode, Duplex type 1 in the Node Setup Menu

COR Settings
Shawnerz
Hello all.
I'm new to AllStar and SHARI and the SA-818. I have most of my node (64402) configured. I've watched videos and done reading but this last setting is confusing me. The VHF SHARI-Pi node can send the tone with the "flashing" PTT. I hear the tone in my HT. But when I key up my HT, it is never "seen" by the Pi. I am CTCSS and I am confident the HT and Pi are configured for the same tone (100.0 Hz). I am confident the HT transmit frequency and the Pi receive frequencies are set to the same frequency (146.52). The only other option I can think of is the COR setting. I am running a Raspberry Pi 4B with a VHF SHARI Pi with a SA-818 module. If someone running a similar setup please tell me what they have theirs set to? And, as an aside, why is it you can only get to the COR setting menu by removing and re-adding the node in the ASL menu? Wouldn't make more sense to make those values available in the SA818-menu? Or, am I overlooking something obvious? I've missed many obvious clues in my past. This would not be the first.? Thank you, -Shawn |

OK, I found I could get back to the Tune Interface CLI from Updating the Node. OK, So that's good.

But, i am still trying to get the node to receive. I have no indications of receive activity by the LED. The activity LED stays slow flashing green when inactive. When transmitting the test tone, the Red LED lights and the green LED goes to fast flashing. Thanks, -Shawn On Monday, February 24, 2025 at 04:56:33 AM CST, Shawnerz <shawnerz@...> wrote:

Re: Shari receive issue Pi4U
I have got and set up with identical parameters 2 SA818 hotspots. One works as expected, the other one has very reduced receiver sensitivity. I have done some reseach on the RSSI. The one, which is "ok", produces nearly the same RSSI values as Steve described. The other one shows an RSSI value of 57 - 61 as soon as you connect an antenna. I have tested? several antennas (on roof, below roof, car) in different locations. Only when I use the supplied antenna, it shows something between 40 and 45. Is there something, which I can read of these values or things I can change to make both equal?

I haven't needed any support, but the kit came quickly,

Hello:
?
This message is about the excellent customer support by the great folks at Kits4Hams.?
?
A while back I ordered a SHARI-Pi and there was a problem with the delivery/order.? I advised Kits4Hams and Deb got right back to me.
?
After some detective work we understood the problem.? Deb and the owners at Kits4Hams went above and beyond in their response and I am very happy to recommend them for their great support.
?
I have been a licensed ham since 1956 and hav had a lot of interaction with makers and Kits4Hams is as good as it gets.

Thanks to Deb and the other K4H folks.

Re: Intermittent serial port connectivity to SA818 on a Pi 5
#Allstar_Setup
#SA818-prog
Steve
Thanks for the answer and I understand that I don't have to enter the console=serial0,115200 line for Pi5 in cmdline.txt, just modify config.txt by deleting dtoverlay=disable-bt and adding dtparam=uart0 (located at the end of the file)

The second document is correct for ASL3.
