I sent a note to the administrator who owns the FCS 2 Reflector out of Europe.? It appears that the FCS 2 Room 43 listed as Texas is not registered with any groups in Texas.? I purchased another Shark RF and I will be prototyping to see if we pick up any traffic from people who are looking to connect to the state of Texas.

?

This may or may not cause more latency so it is in a test phase to determine whether it adds any value to our group or others who are looking to talk with people in Texas.

?

If you have a “Hot Spot” device, please dial over to FCS 2 Room 43 Texas and let’s do some testing.

?

If successful, we will have Wires X, YSF, FCS2, and FCS 3.? IF a network goes down, we have redundancy.?

?

Let’s see how it goes but I appreciate any reports.

The Kendall Amateur Radio Society is planning on putting up another repeater connected to SADRC in Sister Dale.? This is about 20 miles North of Boerne and should have great coverage along 290 in the Fredericksburg area and beyond.? Their current repeater is on 444.900.?

Please notate that Bob K9ASS repeater is on 440.500 located near Seguin as well as the AE5JO repeater on 442.575 in San Benito (Texas Valley) north of Brownsville.

?

I would like to find a site along the I35 coridor perhaps in San Marcos or Buda.? Our repeater network drops off just north of San Marcos. ?If you anybody who would sponsor a site location there, please let me know.? We cover the west side pretty good so I’m not sure if there would be a benefit there or not.? I know the A5RO Club has digital repeaters but they don’t seem to get a lot of usage.? They have a very good club and a lot of repeaters so perhaps they use other networks.

I loved all forms of radio since I was a kid in the late 1960’s early 70’s. ??Two of my favorite distributors/manufacturers were Lafayette Radio and Allied Radio that later changed it’s name to Radio Shack.?? I just went down memory lane as I found two major links for these distributors from the early 1930’s on.? I owned several high end Stereo receivers, Quadraphonic, turntables, equalizers, speakers, ham radio, and short wave receivers, etc.?

?

Honestly, these were some of my fondest memories as an electronic enthusiast. ?At age 5, I had my 1^st Allied CB Transceiver along with a CW Key (didn’t transmit but made sound)? Some of these basic experiences in life carried my career in Purchasing Electronic components or engineered product for Fortune 100 companies.

?

I guarantee you will enjoy reviewing some of these old catalogs.? Technology has advanced but in my humbled opinion some of the older technologies including tubes still sounded better with full fidelity than today’s modern equipment. ??Many of you go back into the 60’s and predate my experiences.? These are just two of the many that I loved.? We could spend an entire net on Heath Kit, Collins Radio etc.? I hope this sparks a flame for the love of electronics.?
