RF Troubleshooting locking up 147.160 - Troubleshooting and end result that resolved the issue
羲堁极郤Hello, ? We had a huge lighting strike nearby my house last night and after that occurred, our 147.160 repeater had a 20 over S9.? I thought at first it was the repeater and then I switched from the DR1 repeater to the DR2 and experienced the same key up on FM. ? I moved to an indoor antenna and the strong signal and repeater lock up went away.? I tested the antenna and it＊s working fine so I was going crazy. ? My solution:? I ?had to put both repeaters on back up battery power to keep them on during the test.? I then turned off each circuit breaker to my house while the repeater was locked up.? After turning 10 circuits on and off, I finally hit a home run when I narrowed it down to my daughters bedroom upstairs.? I turned off the repeater and turned in back on while in FM and keyed up.? I started unplugging curling irons, fluorescent lights, power strips etc.? I had actually unplugged everything in the room.? I then turned the light switch and fan switch on and the noise starting occurring and the repeater locked up.? I turned it off and the signal went away.? The odd thing is I turned the fan and light back on again and it did not cause interference.? It appears that when we take a power surge, it starts causing interference from the fan motor or lights.? I can recreate the problem if I shut off the circuit breaker and then turn the fan or fan light on.? They are on separate switches. ? I will have to have the fan replaced or have an electrician look at the circuit as we seem to have other circuit issue in the house. ? 羲堁极郤Hey Chuck! ? We have a 35 Amp in line to run our linear but it＊s not in the best shape either.? With AC in line, it should run for awhile but the Astron RS 50M is an expensive power supply and we should have this in line as a backup or our main supply to power our 146.780 repeater.? I love running our SADRC Net and look forward to hearing from everyone week to week. I am in need of help especially through July and August.? I can run the net on Wednesday .June 30th net but I will only be able to run but One (1) net July and August.? If you have ran a net and can run Net Logger (we can teach you), please contact me at n8iqt@... and sign up for a week. ?It＊s a lot of fun to interface with all of the amateurs across the country.? We generally have 25 to 30 repeater connections and 25 YSF Reflectors.? That＊s a pretty good audience!? ? We have a lot of people around the country who enjoy coming on week to week.? If we can＊t get people to sign up for July and August then we will have a casual gathering on Wednesday＊s without a NCS station.? ? My daughters are active in soccer and the oldest going to college so I simply can＊t keep up this as the only NSC station. I have the net script and would be happy to help you with this.? We really need a couple of people to step up especially for July and August and even the year.? I am willing to do up to Two (2) per month after August. ?
