So…. I have hundreds of feet of SHS track I plan to use on the main level of my layout. ?In theory I ?love it. ?In practice, well…?
?
1. ?What are best practices to remove the weathering for successful solder joints?
?
2. ?How best to attach to roadbed? ?What glue have been a smashing success?
?
?I anticipate mucho responses. ?Please!

开云体育Ben,? re #1: I have had success removing weathering with a fiberglass scratch brush or a Dremel with a brass wire brush, depending on how much cleanup for soldering was planned.? —Dave McBrayer? Auburn, CA? —————— On Dec 23, 2024, at 15:21, Ben via groups.io <pickycat95@...> wrote:

开云体育I used some of the SHS flex just a few
years ago so far everything had been fine.? It equals the
Shinorhara and my old Miller as far as being easy to use.? One
thing that's better is that it flex's in the hinged middle.
if you look at a past posting(back
then) I describe the gluing and mounting of the stuff.? To rid the
rail of the weathering is just lightly moved a cutoff disc on my
Dremel across and in the web of the rail ends--takes just a few
seconds per stick.

With Shinohara flex track, I use ballast soaked with Elmer's white glue thinned 50% with water.? Holds everything in place strong enough to withstand actual real California earthquakes.? Ed L.

开云体育1.????? What are best practices to remove the weathering for successful solder joints? ? Dremel wire brush ? 2. ?How best to attach to roadbed? ?What glue have been a smashing success? I drill a small hole in the center web and nail it down. ? You need a significant soldering unit to get the code 137 rail hot enough for a good joint. I have a PBL HOTIP just for layout work. ? ? ? I use a pin nailer to secure Flex track to the road bed. It's fast and easy. Mine is pneumatic but you can get battery nailers. The pins are headless and essentially invisible.? If you need to readjust just slip a putty knife under them and pop the rail off. ? ? Credit to Paul Krause for this technique. On Dec 24, 2024 1:10 AM, Ed Loizeaux <Loizeaux@...> wrote:

If you only have a few to do, and/or don't want to drag out a corded dremel, you can use a fiber or stainless steel scratch brush: does a great job very quickly.?? This is not a wood handled brush but one that looks like a retractable pencil.? These I found quickly but there are others selling at less cost.?? Woody Mitchell Charleston, WV??
