I have wound up purchasing them from many different sources as no one seems to have enough to fill a car. Sometime you might use the same person more than once and repaint it different colors.?
Does anyone know of a source or place to purchase sitting figures? Looking for some for a passenger car project.?
?
Justin: One thing that could make this cheaper would be to buy HO figures and paint them as children. If you make a few cars as a " Summer Camp Special " or a "Ski Special "? for a? wintertime Scene then throw in a few adults in S Scale? that would cheapen the purchase considerably as Artista and other S Scale figures are pretty pricey now per figure. I have seen lots of HO scale figures in quantity on eBay and other places for figures at a cost of under $1 each that will need painting or re-painting to make them look like kids.? Good Luck Bill

For almost everything I have done in the past 30+ years my ¡°interiors¡± have been black paint. There are only so many applicable Arttista figures. There is the cost ($8.00 each) and weight added. In no way am I going to add people painting to what I do to save money on figures.
?
Black paint is 1 size fits all.

Thank You, Bill Lane

Lighted passenger cars with seated figures look great. Unpainted MTH Railking figures are really s scale and were reasonably priced. They were available in a bag of 120. MTH 30-11043 pop up on eBay occasionally.
I concur with Ron Kemp that the MTH Railking figures look right. They came in a bag, as he stated, and are unpainted (I can't find mine right now, but as I remember the plastic was approximately flesh-colored).
Another source is to find seated OO figures on Ebay. I have bought bags of standing, sitting, and mixed-pose figures in OO scale. These are pretty inexpensive, and come prepainted. Some are painted in the same scheme, but it takes a lot less time to change the color of a few shirts than it does to paint entire figures! Since they're plastic, they're light - perfect for passenger cars. Some of the standing OO figures I bought actually measured 5'10" or even 6' in S scale for the male figures, and the females were appropriately a few inches shorter. The seated figures look perfect inside a passenger car window.

I checked US Ebay for MTH figures.? There are none currently listed.? Going back to January, only one(1) bag sold $34.? So do not count on those as a seated people supply.
I twice the bought bags of the MTH
figures.? So along with the Palace car seats I filled up about of
the older AM coaches.? I didn't pay to much attention to matching
the seats with the people--just lined up people with windows.? I
laid down some polystyrene sheet with a full length of key stock
with seats on both sides, then filled about 60% with customers.?
Looks about right with 50's era ridership--60's and beyond could
probably have fewer riders!?
I originally sold off my standing
figures, but now I've decided that a Dremel with cutoff disc will
put them in seats.? Also you can us the lower body parts to stick
under a car being repaired!?
Also I once built one of S scenery's
12;1 Pullman cars.? I had my daughter, as well as people in the
next offices stop in so I could do photos of them in the windows.?
I used 35mm slide film, and glued them in the window openings.? It
was semi successful because if you looked into the windows you
could see the 'flat' passengers just fine, but you looked at an
angle and? beyond? them, you could , see through the next passenger
and out the other window--!
I also have a Kinsman coach built by a
Ron Koch someplace back East.? I've never had the car apart, but
it has a few passengers inside, all made long before Artista!? I
have a few sold by SSL&S in soft metal, so they might be the
source!? In actual years those passengers are now nearly old
enough to collect Social Security--going on 60 years now.

You might do a search for an unused set of figures from MTH. There were about 150 in the set, gray plastic, several simple poses repeated about 25 times.? Arms against their sides.? Standing, sitting, casual and coat and tie old, young, some kids.? About 50/50 male and female.? I did a quick Google and didn¡¯t find anything, but someone on line might have them and never used them all.?
Just in case somebody might not know, you can have "Saved searches" on eBay for something you are looking for.? Then it does the searching and emails you if there is a match at some time in the future.
Sometimes it is best to have multiple saved searches for an item with different search strings.? But you want it to be narrow enough, so you don't get a lot of clutter.
This is how I find the obscure things I'm looking for.? But it might take a while.? Sometimes a long while.

$27.69 is the cheapest that shows at checkout for an item they say weighs 1 lb.
Also, I tried to increase the quantity to make sure the shipping didn't get extra ridiculous somehow, and it would not let me enter more than "1".? Makes me think that's all that is available.
For USPS either Ground Advantage or Flat Rate Priority box, it would be about $10.?
