American Models RS-3 wheels cleaning

How do I clean the wheels on this diesel?

The easiest method I know is to dampen a rag with mineral spirits and place it under the rear truck, place the front truck on the track, hold the engine and power it up moving the engine back and forth to spread the wheel dirt on the rag.

Do the same to the front truck.

Dispose of the rag accordingly.

Good luck

I grab a coupler and jack the throttle for about 30 seconds.

I used to lay a piece of paper towel on the track with track cleaner or whatever soaked in (not?a lot?though)

And like Bill, run up the power and do one truck at a time.

Peco do a wheel cleaning brush and scrapper, it’s a handy thing to have. Walthers probably stock it in the USA

Kadee has a wheel cleaner that is spec'd to do HOn to O.

Walthers shows it online.

I would go with the paper towel method.? I used the Kadee wheel cleaner during my HO days and don't think it's that effective.?

Plus, with the paper towel you see how much gook is coming off the wheels.

Years ago, in my HO days, I would occasionally clean the really dirty wheels with a Dremel.

Body off, and clip lead the engine leads to the track.

Bring up the power a bit, and (most everyone will cringe) use a Dremel with wire brush attachment to buff down the wheel surfaces, one wheel at a time.

:)
