Re: Paint for airbrushing

Recently someone asked if there are any small aerosol paints like the old Testors. I’ve gotten Krylon “Short Shots” in Hobby Lobby, same small cans, no railroad colors but I use a lot of the flat black, $3.99 ea.

Hi Ted,
I suggest that you call AM about purchasing rolling stock painted but not decorated.?

I have a scale Baldwin coming from them in that manor. It was an undecorated loco that he is going to shoot black in his next batch of painting that color. Which he said will be soon. I told him I’m in no hurry.?

Corbin,
I think that’s who mentioned the premium hand railing for the Baldwin S12. Thank you, I had no idea they would be brass. Ordered a set for both locos.?

He also wanted to know if I wanted them install and of course I didn’t due to the fact I will be decaling it for Missouri Pacific.?

Based on?WANTED?ads that I have seen, some of the most desired SHS and PRS cars are painted, undecorated.??
Would love to see AM cars offered that way; especially the plug door boxcar in freight car red and reefer yellow, to allow people to simply ad their favorite decals.?

Mr Griff,
I would not believe it would help. This issue of TC letting go is from not having a bonding agent.?

I'm with you on this.? I also had to resort to TruColor after the demise of Scalecoat, but have the same?issues with masking TruColor. I find the masking?problem to be even worse on?resin (SMMW) castings no matter what I use for a primer or how long I bake it.? I've also tried various masking tapes, all with the same result.? Very frustrating!? Also,TruColor requires significant thinning, per your comment, for good airbrushing.

Tommy, looks like you guys did your usual great job promoting S at this NMRA regional event.? Any time we display our scale among serious modelers, I know we stand tall even if we're a small component of the hobby.? Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Rich...

I've used the?3M masking?tape (Micro Mark link) exclusively until now.? In my experience it will also pull?off TruColor paint from resin and plastic.? Overall it is still probably the best masking tape out there, in both my opinion and several of the professional painter guys.

Tru Color is most accessible for me since Scalecoat ended. I have figured it out and get good results. But it SUCKS if you have to mask it for another color. Pretty much any tape pulls paint off at least on brass that has been blasted. I have not tried masking and painting on plastic, urethane or 3D printing resin.
I had the same on plastic, Tamiya masking tape has the lowest tack I've seen and it still pulled the paint up.
I'm using Tamiya paints now for all plastic models. It does use alcohol, but that's a lot better than the acetone in TruColor. Never had Tamiya lift off with the masking.

New NWSL Stanton Drives for sale

Is anyone in need of a set of brand new NWSL Stanton Drives?? I just purchased this set NEW from NWSL and messed up on the size.? They are new in-box and not run.? This is a set of 1 powered truck and 1 unpowered truck.? It is Model 1615 with 33" wheels and the variable 8', 8' 6" or 9' wheelbase (you can change easily).? I paid $162 for them but someone can have them at the bargain price of $125 plus shipping.? My error can be someone's gain.
If interested please contact me at bob.hogan@....
Thank you!

Re: S Scale switching layout plan

I think many people create switching layouts primarily from space considerations.? As such I think many can be seen as shortline railroads with the distance removed.? I think this describes the famous Gumstump and Snowshoe.? ?The parallel tracks you describe could be seen as modeling a small classification yard with team or interchange tracks
