Re: Decoder wiring AM RS11

Hi Kim - I've posted what I'm about to share with you previously to the group, but instead of making you hunt for it...
?
See attached PDF with before and after wiring.
?
Important to note, at least for my RS11, is the following:
?
"Having performed DCC conversions in N Scale many time before, I immediately noticed that the wire color coding was reversed for DCC because the Left Rail (Fireman’s Side) should be Black (not Red), and the Right Rail (Engineer’s Side) should be Red (not Black). In fact, when I tested the loco on DC track, with the power pack wires matching the loco colors, i.e., Red (+) on Left Rail and Black (-) on Right Rail, the loco traveled in reverse. This suggested that either the loco was wired backwards from the factory, or it was intended to run Long Hood forward. To remain consistent with DCC standards, it would be necessary to reverse the wiring for DCC, as shown in..." the attached PDF.
?
I am writing an article with the full story and photos for The Dispatch, but in the meantime I hope the PDF will be useful. If not, feel free to reach out to me...

Well when AF stopped, I had started with the Herald and NASG, then everybody's wish was a 19.95$ train-set to encourage the younger crowd or a tight budget?? But we know that didn't happen except for some low end battery powered toys.?
Those lowly battery toys for toddlers evolved into the Thomas series with all sorts of items including nearly everything, especially TV.? Nearly parallel with Thomas is the Bachmann 0n30 stuff.? Both are factually Gold Mines despite 'real modelers' not buying into the compromises, but I feel those companies make very healthy bank deposits and any 50's cars come from their collection!?

And BTW we got some BK coupons in the mail--wanna do lunch??

You might try these folks...

If my math is correct, their 90° triangular 'rod' should have two 45° angles...

Frank,
There was a time when Plastruct offered a solid triangle shape. I have some somewhere, but it might take me a month to find it. It was probably an equilateral triangle which would make it 60° angles.? From memory, I'd say my piece was about 1/16th on a?side. I tried to find it online, but Plastruct's web page is a mess.

I suggest fabricating your own by edge gluing flat plastic or wood strips at the angle you want.? You can even file or sand an edge to have an angle for a better fitting joint.

For wood, if you have one of those little hobby table says, you could cut strips with an angle on one edge for gluing.? (22.5 degree edges will make 45 degrees when joined.)

Re: Any future S efforts....

While I have great respect for those posting here, I will admit that I am sick and tired of the complaining that S is dominated by toy trains. ALL the scales started out as toy trains, it is NOT the fault of ACG or Lionel that S-scale hasn't grown except that the other scales have many more established manufacturers in both the "toy" and "scale" marketplaces, so they overwhelm the general public with their products, which are not S scale in size.? And I am willing to bet that all manufactures are facing the declining interest in ALL hobbies. The upcoming generations do not seem to want to do hobbies except maybe electronic gaming. Society, both American and European (the two major societies that have large groups of hobbyists), has reached a major turning point in recreational activities, and it's not one the is supportive of personal creativity activities.
Lionel's decision to leave the AF product line in spite of their mishandling of it is not a blessing for the future popularity of the scale.
S'incerely,
David Dewey

Re: Any future S efforts....

Preorders are pretty much the way Lionel's been doing business for the last 20 years, particularly with locomotives.

Decoder wiring AM RS11

Brand new to DCC and just hooked up an NCE Power Cab. ?My first engine is decodered and running fine. ?Starting to install a decoder in an AM RS11. ?The headlights in the RS11 are factory mounted to small PC boards and wired in parallel with track power so there is no differentiation between headlight and taillight. ?Should I keep them wired to the motor tabs on the decoder and let the lighting boards figure it out without using the decoder light tabs?

Re: Any future S efforts....

Well since everything is a preorder nowadays anyway it seems Lionel could open it up for preorders stating that the project will only go forward if “X” number of locomotives are ordered and then if enough interest is reached require a 50% deposit from those people to assure the sales and make the run.?

My only gripe is that I don’t want or need all the junk they have in those locomotives. They could save money by selling a stripped version rid of all the electronics and simply supply it with scale wheels, lights and motor. We’re S scalers, so we can do the rest!!! If they want to release with hirail wheels for those folks that would be fine to increase the run numbers, but offering a stripped version saving some money would be great. That’s basically what American Models sells with their DC versions. I ended up stripping those down too and starting over anyway. I suppose if they wanted to make it DCC ready that would be fine too with the harness built in and then purchasers could choose their own control system.?

Just my two cents.?

And there are scams associated with fake "friend" requests.? It gives the scammer access to your info and your list of friends.? A goal can be to send malware or phishing links to your real friends.

I have had recent "friend" requests from my lady friend who died in 2011 and my brother who died last May.? Unless Facebook has a longer reach than I think it has, they were certainly fake.
