Buzzing transformers can often be quieted down. First make certain the transformer is held tightly in the case--check the mounting screws. Second possibility is the coil is vibrating on the laminate stack. A small hardwood wedge can often be used to tighten the coil to the laminates--in fact you might find some put there by the factory! Go gently?

The 60 year age isn't an issue if the insulation is in good order. I have a 1915-ish transformer I still use for lighting buildings, etc. The "throttle is a lever that connects to a series of brass buttons--yes, on top of the transformer where you can touch them! This system does not work well for engines with reverse units in them!

small and large, cheap and outrages!

I've got some medical work coming up but I do have some time to list a few more things looking for new homes:

1) I still have 8 packages of the AB brake systems for sale--same price as before--inflation is under control.? $26.00

2) Now I have some diecast things--out of box.? A Farmall/IH 40's-50's-60's era tractor; a much older tractor painted in John Deere colors, with the only label indicating kerosene on it's fuel tank?; then another John Deere tractor from the 40'-50-60's; then because these are really hot items I have a Mac pumper (Corigi) to cool things down!? They can all ride on a trailer as shown in the photo.? (I believe all the tractors and trailer are Ethl) $28.00

3) I also? have three items still in blister packs:? A fairly modern John Deere tractor with cab.? Item as released in 91'? Then a 1957 Dodge COE from M2--neat model--red line tires jewel signal lights!? Then I have a American Muscle Chrysler 300 with opening truck and hood!? $24.00

4) From Gold Coast Models is aC-30-1 (straight coupla) factory painted caboose with road number 308.? Test run a few feet? but super clean overall with box and foam in original excellent? condition.? With couplers.? With lots of brass made during this time--this won't be made like this again.? $225.00

5) A real oldie!? What seems like a full circle of Tru-Scale Wooden Milled roadbed.? Writing indicates it's radii is 36"? $12.00

6)? Kinsman woodsided reefer with Wilson Meets pre-colored sides.? One pair of NE/Kinsnman trucks with scale wheels included.? Body is mostly wooden parts, soft metal and wire grabs and includes the instructions.? Once considered the Best kits--this one is looking for a craftsman to begin it after so many years!? $16.00

7)? Next is a Southwind Models, Erie--AAR 53' flat car.? This is a nearly new car but the brakewheel is missing.? the brass stake pockets are still wrapped up.? Box and foam is great along with a business card from Bill Wade's Trainshop from his Florida location!? That's worth a quarter or two!? $72.00

8)? And last but not least and the outrages part!? A Sunset Models Challenger 4-6-6-4.? The outrages, is? this extremely reasonably price of $750.00? This model seems to run nicely, and by far exceedes the quality issues of Sunset's prior attempt with the Big Boy.? This model has really never been run any distance.?

I own a painted version that had only had a couple of shorting issues, but most large brass power has had similar issues!? Here is where modeling and problem solving (along with outside help is sometimes required).

All prices are without shipping charges which we'll determine based on location, box size an weight!? We accept personal checks and PayPal.

Thanks guys!? I'll be "out" in more ways than usual, but my in box is working!

Re: Sound proof cell!

Hi Bob-?

I think I read a post, maybe over on the S-Trains io, that you can place a woooden shim in the old AF transformers to reduce the hum volume.? Not sure about adding a friable object to the inside of a transformer…..but that’s probably better that adding cloth insulation.

Also, Doug Peck has some ?modern breakers you can add into the circuit for not much money, and more peace of mind…..?

That is very fine work and if you are a friend of Philippe Coquet, you are in fine company.? I had the pleasure of visiting Philippe in Paris several years ago. Please say "Hi" to him for me the next time you see him.

However, on this list we like people to post their full names so we know who we are corresponding with.? Please share your name with us. We look forward to seeing more of your work.
