Re: Dumb Curiousity
I would bet that the molds/tooling?for the pieces under discussion reside in China. It¡¯s possible that Lionel doesn¡¯t even ¡°own¡± them, or that they were destroyed after the last run, although not highly probable.

A more likely approach for us would be using CAD-CAM and 3D printing to make very short run or make-on-demand models. The results would not be cheap, probably brass-model prices, but could fill the needs of existing and future S scalers (after 50 years I expect the idea of ¡°growing¡± S into a major scale is one to forget). People are already making the 3D printed shells, it is more about machining the mechanism parts. A first step might be to work with AM to design 3D printed shells and maybe frame parts to extend their line (if they are willing - but it?would mean they could focus on marketing and shipping, maybe painting and pad-printing an extended line with only mechanical parts being in inventory).?The line could then be filled out with newer models and more unusual units from the transition era. Meanwhile someone with the skills could work on producing a mechanism or mechanisms using?the CAM technology. BTW, Hans, any HO produced since the 1970s should run on code 70. Before that it was only a few European based companies that used the NEM standards which required code 100 track. Re: Posting Only On Facebook
Peter, you do a fabulous job of updating the NASG.org web site for all things S!? It's a wonderful portal for all who are interested in trains, farm modeling, diecast vehicles, etc. Your "news" and "product gallery" are especially comprehensive, capturing part-time makers, 3D-printed models, and many obscure niches with our hobby.
?
Guys, I recommend checking this great information resource from time to time. You'll find something of interest.

Re: Posting Only On Facebook
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI changed my S Fine Scale Model Railroading group to private maybe 2 years ago. There was a lot of SPAM and fake profiles applying. Changing to private stopped all that. ? I mostly post things to both to cover all possible. But FB allows video to be posted that I/O SHOULD be doing so I am a bit more active on FB. ? Thank You, ? See my layout progress at:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you, Dan., I calculated that the train would be over 8 feet long! I¡¯m searching for a place to fit it in full view. It would have to be a ¡°helicopter¡± shot. Before that, I need to strip and add details to my two C&NW F units before painting them in red and gray. Might take some time at my current snail¡¯s pace. Roger ? Posting Only On Facebook
It appears that the "S-scale" group on Facebook has now also locked their group to be "private" only. The full list of S-related Facebook groups is here (all are now "private"):
I do not "do" Facebook, so if you are only posting new product announcements or other important notices on any of the Facebook groups, note that I will not see them, and thus not be able to report on them in the NASG web site "News" section. So, I would recommend that individuals/companies either also post announcements in any of the Groups.io S-related discussion lists (I do monitor all of them), or e-mail me directly at webmaster@.... We are getting way more eyeballs on the NASG web site than there are members on any of those Facebook groups, so if you want to make an announcement that reaches a wider "S" audience, please contact me. I want to help promote your S product(s). - Peter (as NASG webmaster) P.S. If you know anyone who only posts on Facebook and is not on these Groups.io lists, feel free to forward this e-mail to them. -- Peter Vanvliet (info@...) owner, Fourth Ray Software Houston, Texas (personal web site) |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI do hope all the deck chairs have been
lined up correctly for all the ACs.? I can just see it now, an AC
is about to attack the Western slopes of the Sierra with it's
consist ending with a proper caboose.? With all the SP modelers in
mind, the BBB still has one painted model of the sloped coupla
wood caboose.? This is the Gold Coast model of the C-30-1 that has
been custom painted but not lettered.? It does have a pair of
lanterns and it includes several packages of Champ HO decals,
although I suspect the the correct size is now available.? It's in
the factory box with a gold label.? It's never been run with
excellent paint.?
Probably the last model around!?
$185.00 + shipping?

I already have a precedence for this in the "How To" section of the NASG web site, under the "Scratchbuilding" area:

(see its "Examples" sub-header) It would be no big deal for me to add a page dedicated to Jesse Bennett's models, if you all want to contribute photos, texts, etc. to me. I'll be happy to play the editor to put it all together in a nice presentation. I think it would be a worthwhile effort, to preserve his memory. - Peter (as NASG webmaster) On 01/31/2025 06:34 AM, adguytrains via groups.io wrote:

Future A F production
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am by far not an expert on injection molding but I have wondered if Lionel is still using 1950s era molds, or is somehow they recreated them because the molds were worn out. Another spitball guess if molds were in need of work or replacement and that was the end decision. ? I think it is extremely unlikely that Lionel sells the molds to someone else that will restart production. Than will old mods fit and function on modern injection molding machines? Again I do not know about that. ? ? The SD70 and ES44 would be the most desirable but even they are not up to current day HO detail standards. ? Thank You, ? See my layout progress at:

The Monon Thoroughbred
Here's the Monon's "Thoroughbred" Dining-Parlor Observation car #58. Built and painted by Bob Hogan, painted and decaled by me. The five cars are finally finished. Now I need to detail and paint the two F-3's to pull the train. I'm relearning how to program the Tsunami 2-2200. |
