Re: Sound proof cell!
Hi Bob-? I think I read a post, maybe over on the S-Trains io, that you can place a woooden shim in the old AF transformers to reduce the hum volume.? Not sure about adding a friable object to the inside of a transformer¡..but that¡¯s probably better that adding cloth insulation. Also, Doug Peck has some ?modern breakers you can add into the circuit for not much money, and more peace of mind¡..? µþ±ð¡±³§¡±³Ù, Ted On Wed, Jun 19, 2024 at 12:02?PM Bob Werre via <bob=[email protected]> wrote:

Sound proof cell!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFor many years I've used and acquired old AF
transformers to power switch motors and my homemade uncouplers.?
I have 4 areas where they are used.? I needed to replace one of
the basic tiny units.? With frequent use it started to get hot +
not to mention these are 60+ years old and it didn't have a
circuit breaker either! So I was given the opportunity to upgrade to a
larger unit with a circuit breaker--progress, I tell you!?
However with any gift horse, I found that it buzzed rather
loudly.? So last night,? I decided to see what I can do to fix
the buzz!? First I exchanged it with another unit, so now it's
across the room--obviously that helped except to whomever might
be operating in that area.? The new location had a wooden box once used for some camera gear now re-purpsed for storage.? I found some thick but very soft fabric that I glued/stapled to the inside walls.? I think that effort has brought the buzz down to soft hum that I can live with.? Maybe some further work can help even more.? If that works you'll hear it here! Bob Werre Phototraxx PS.? In one of my BBB announctments that our little Orphan cat had delivered a litter that could be had.? Well of the five, we lost two but the rest seem to be thriving with a little help from "grandma"! Anybody?

Diesels on the way out..............in California
Gents.......All S scale "modern modelers" now have a new opportunity to be more realistic.? Looks like any diesel manufactured prior to 2006 will be banished from the rails in just five years.? Time now to start planning for the transition.? I suppose this ban would include all Overland diesels, most American Models diesels and a fair share of SHS diesels.? I don't think steam contributes to global warming and so, perhaps, Hudsons, Mohawks and Niagaras will make a return.? Fingers crossed.........Ed L. From today's newspaper: California¡¯s climate planners aren¡¯t trying merely to extend their electric-vehicle mandate nationwide. Now they¡¯re moving to banish diesel locomotives across all 50 states.? The U.S. House last week held a hearing on the California Air Resources Board¡¯s (CARB) plan that would ban locomotives that are 23 years or older from running in the state after 2029, pending approval from the Environmental Protection Agency. Passenger trains would also have to operate in a ¡°zero emission¡± configuration by 2030 and long-distance freight trains by 2035. -- Ed Loizeaux Los Altos, CA |

Re: utilizing On3 components
I found a spanish language wikipedia page for this engine (but not exactly), with a nice drawimg. It's actually for a 4-6-0. Anyone know a source of plans for these diminutive US made narrow gauge locos (the majority of which ran in central and south america it seems). I used to have a book called Mexican Narrow Gauge, but I must have sold it or something, and it may not have had any plans. |

Re: utilizing On3 components
That was never my intent. I said in so many words the forney frame seemed like it was a reasonable fit for the prototype represented by the 0-4-0. And not knowimg it's origin, I pondered whether there was a standard gauge equivalent, as so many ng/industrial type locos have. I hadn't realized it's closeness in appearance to the MGNG engine. They're probably too small to have standard gauge versions. Anyway I happen to love the look of that 4-4-0, syrait boiler, all spindly looking. Would love to perhaps build one for S, if it were practical. I uses to have one of those 4-4-0 engine. Got it cheap on clearance, about 100$. And sold it, sorry I did. I had a 2-6-0 (set) many years ago, and although I still like the coaches, the engine I had no use for. I'm not a big proponent of that type of kitbashing anyway, imo not worth it. But a frame is just a frame, perhaps a good starting point. Re: utilizing On3 components
Still very confused by your question. Do you have an On30 narrow gauge model you are wanting to convert to an S scale standard gauge locomotive? Bachmann makes a Forney and also 2 different 4-4-0 locomotives, one inside frame and one outside frame. You posted a photo of the outside frame locomotive which is based on a Brazil prototype, the inside frame model may be close to the Mount Gretna loco.

I'm aware there were standard gauge Forneys. My messagebwas worded awkwardly. I was curious if there was a standard gauge version of the 4-4-0 made for On30 by Bachmann. The forney frame might need to be elongated. But seemingly was a good fit for such a loco (see attached). --
