Re: Last weekend's train show!

Maybe a few clouds ... from someone with experience...? I was not very impressed with the SoundTrax unit.? It's great when you start the model up to just putt around in the yard, but who wants to do that with an 8500+ hp locomotive!? IMHO, you get more impressive sounds from starting an A-B-B-A set of FT's - when you program the prime mover of each unit to start 60 seconds after the one next to it!??

Back to the turbine, we installed a couple extra speakers and one at the base of the turbine model's exhaust tunnel.? The Cooper-Bessemer sound is pretty much inaudible once the turbine starts.? The turbine is really either on or off and doesn't modulate (They didn't on the prototype either.), so when it's pulling a train (again IMHO), it becomes nothing more than a white noise generator.? Once the unit has gone a couple miles on the DPV layout, that constant "waterfall" sound generally gets shut off.? Save your money.? I enjoy my SP 2-10-2 with its 'barking' LokSound decoder, and speaker in the stack, much more...

Caveat:? I think most people run their locomotive sounds too loud.? Of course, with sound, as with all things subjective, YMMV...

sometimes a little bit of sunshine helps the situation.
Bob......Here is some more "sunshine".? SoundTraxx makes a sound decoder for the UP turbine.? I hear it is quite amazing since the A unit and B unit have totally different prime power sources which cut in/out at different speeds.? Perhaps it will make you happy just listening to it?? Good luck.........Ed L.
