CPR bought the DM&E; around this time of year they run a Christmas train around the upper Midwest.? I believe Huron, and its engine facilities, was the functional end of the "Alco Line."

Okay two suggestions basically indicating the same thing as I had thought!? So I had already chiseled out most of the sand.? Because it's very fine it's all over.? However under the white sand, I did find a grayish sand also,
which is what Roger is suggesting.? I think I'll try some less-white then selectively sprinkled with a darker color.? Real sand is the correct color but is too coarse.? So I might not glue it down yet--going back to "mulling it over".? And I'll then take Bill's
advice with using less of it too.? Part of that problem is that we're looking down on the scene, where in the 1:1 world we normally would be looking across at the scene.? That angle changes the perspective.? That is also proven by the scenes that John D. sent
me--face it, that little structure is really a 'nothing' in a full rail terminal scene.?
I have a scene shot in Huron South Dakota of the former CNW, later DM&E, then ??.? They utilized a? tankcar stood on end, so it's footprint was probably 10' but as I recall it had a fairly tall pile of spillage--which is great
for the crews to keep in the trunk of there cars--for sanding snowy roads and traction on solid ice too??
I'll be sending a creative thought award to you guys--no money, but you also made me smile!
