No Chris,? I would guess that actually most past KITS could be put together either way.? Many past hi-rail builders just left off the pieces that weren't necessory. (sometimes also interfered).
With RTR, SHS, S Scale America and AM either included parts for either version or offered them as options.? In the past we had a club member who had me convert some Drake brass scale cars to run on hi-rail track.? I think only the brake hose/air hose had to come off those guys.? At the time we used Downs Ace trucks and some tongue like thing to fasten the AF coupler--a fairly easy process--no longer made but I bet there's around.
I'm certain you can find articles on ways to modify most cars either way all in the NASG website--some going back to the S Gauge Herald in the mid 60's.

For those manufacturers that make both versions of a car, is the difference only wheelsets and couplers? Or are there more differences? Is it only American Models that makes both?
