It's been almost a week since I saw Coastal in the theater. I've been reflecting a bit on it. I liked what Daryl Hannah made. This is a film that tells a part of a story that begins with films about Neil from over 50 years ago to now. They all have something to say. Starting approximately with Journey Through The Past and continuing through many many films and videos and up to and including Coastal and more to come hopefully. They all have something to say about an incredible career that I feel privileged to have experienced in somewhat real-time over that span. What a ride it has been. Mike Expecting To Fly

Coastal soundtrack issues?

Seen in a comment here (maybe it's copied from elsewhere) Last weeks release of Coastal has now been withdrawn from sale and streaming due to numerous faults. Some tracks have bizarre edits that make no sense,one has a single run through of the chorus and nothing else and best of all another has Neil singing and playing harmonica at the same time which is pretty clever in a solo concert. Neil has apologised on his web site and says it will be fixed. Anyone who has a copy or has one on the way should go to the Greedy Hand store and fill out the Contact Us form at the bottom.Hold on to your receipts and shipping notices for the disc replacement program.

Big bunch of maybe 20 of us, maybe more (capacity 153), at the second showing today. Good movie. I really liked the behind the scenes look. Takes a lot of work to put on a show by Neil and his team. Beautiful venues I¡¯ve never been to. I recognized the scenes of the coast highway through there. I still think I recognize his bus driver as the same one I saw multiple times in the seventies stepping out of Pocahontas in Half Moon Bay. Glad to see Neil and Darryl love each other. Good to see Ben enjoying himself. Not sure why she included Neil coming out of the bathroom and zipping up twice but no judgement. ? I think Harvest Time was better, but I think it was because of the history of Harvest and seeing local scenes I recognized in it. Russell Courtenay Solemnity and profundity are sublime in inequity.

Coastal in Berkeley
I went to yesterday's matinee at the Elmwood in Berkeley. I'd say there were around 40 of us there, not a bad turnout on Easter Sunday (and 4/20!). The theater is about a mile south of the Greek Theatre, site of Neil's show on Jul 15, 2023, which I also attended. It was fun to see some of that show from a different perspective. Overall, I thought the film was a low-key, enjoyable glimpse of the Coastal tour, and a great way to spend part of a nice Sunday afternoon. It did make me even more eager for the Chrome Hearts show at Shoreline in September. MZ

Last Night...

when it first started, i got this overwhelming feeling of sadness - why does one's idols have to get old - just like us apparently :-) as the movie progressed i got much more comfortable and realized he is still making music and sharing it. i thought he sounded quite good and his playing was great. still has the Neil sense of humor. i was kinda glad he didn't just do old hits, but some not so well known numbers. after reading some of the reviews i was expecting less - and got more... tom "take my advice, don't listen to me"

I was going to order tickets and head out in a few minutes, but it seems the show sold out! I really didn¡¯t think there were that many Neil fans in Idaho! Another showing now Sunday at 3:30 so maybe it did sell out¡ The website doesn¡¯t say TONIGHT SOLD OUT or anything, doesn¡¯t even show it was available, calling just refers you to the app or website, which bugs me because out in the rurals we often don¡¯t have internet access unless we are around the house using our WiFi. Russell Courtenay Solemnity and profundity are sublime in inequity.

1975 albums: Tonight's The Night vs. Homegrown

I'm kind of celebrating some 50 year old albums. Today I listened to my vinyl of Tonight's The Night and immediately afterwards played Homegrown which I think was being considered for release instead until it was heard by Rick Danko who recommended strongly to Neil to release TTN instead. I cannot agree more. I'm so glad Homegrown was the long lost album instead of Tonight's The Night. Tonight's The Night is just a cornerstone in Neil's catalog and things would have been much different had this one been the long lost album. I'm so glad I've been able to listen to this one for the last 50 years! Mike Expecting To Fly

?I like that NYA posted this Berlin ¡®82 version of CG (link below) to YouTube last week. I can¡¯t get enough of it, at top volume. Has this song ever rocked harder? I think the Transband advantage over Crazy Horse is more musicians and instruments. Old Black sounds awesome. And the video is great, too.
