Hey everyone, I have a single extra Zwan(Billy Corgan's new band) ticket for April 10 at the Galaxy in St. Louis. I'm looking for face value of $20. I was planning on taking the trip but it doesn't look good for me. First one to respond, gets it. Neil content: I'll take the first three b&p's for the 5-22-96 OPL show that I recently downloaded from ny-shn. Gary

proposed Dead DVDR tree (NNC)
I don't really read a lot on this list, as much as I do like Neil's stuff. I am trying to get this wonderful show out on some other lists. Its the Grateful Dead, 3-22-90, 2 dvdrs, has very good menus etc, excellent video, and the audio is actually the soundboard synced with the video, so it will blow you away.
What I'd like, is for someone to mail me that they have a *pc-based* dvd burner, (and know how to use it, :) ), and will set up a tree or some way to distribute these on rustlist if people are interested. I'm very concerned that folks without dvd burners or a huge list of dvdrs will be able to get in on this too.
If you are interested, please mail me. I may ask the list if this person is reliable, please don't be offended. And to make it CLEAR, I'm offering to send ONE set to someone who will see that it gets distributed. This is not any trade/b&p/etc offer.
best,
bob

2) I know you only have the best of intentions, but IMHO it would be
best not to put the 2/22 show into circulation with "Helpless" from another date. I'm quite confident that a complete recording of this show will
find its way into circulation.
I'm hoping somebody has comparable quality of the 2/22 show and my
sign-up post even solicits contribution of a better cut of the 2/22 version that
I may past in. Earlier this morning I contacted the other 2/22 tree to try and set up a joint project, but he has not yet replied. I know knothing about the quality of his recording, where it was made from...nothing. Production of the tree won't happen for another week or two, when sign-up closes. I'm hoping to replace that one song if something better comes my way within that time.
Otherwise, I've made some very HQ recordings that I feel should be shared with everybody on this list. I am very up front about the small problem
I had on "helplessly hoping" of 2/22, many do not seem to care. If the
minor glitch of substituting one song of a 6 CD set ruins the experience for
you then by all means DON'T sign up for the tree. Most of us prefer the bird
in the hand rather than waiting for the promise of the two in the bush. If something better comes along God bless, but until then I say take what
you can get or just "Love The One Your With." Amen, Brother!! If you got a high quality tape of this show I am for one willing to live with a substituted Helplessly Hoping. Leave the complete whole show to the digital gene pool preservers, some of us music lovers would love to get your shows as soon as possible.

Apologies to all from Rust who joined the thanksforsharing group only to get bombarded with tree messages - something like 90 or so before I sent a message to Rust requesting future requests to go directly to me - then it was only me who had another 165 messages waiting for me...and that after weeding through the first 90...a lot of which were from irate members who had great disdain for having to use the delete key so much..Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them....
I feel like Dennis Moore - this redistribution of wealth is trickier than I thought... This will be a big tree. I received a response from another taper who also was planning on treeing his recording. I have a feeling we'll be exchanging our shows and treeing the better of the two. Which means the best in the long run, as it should be. And that shouldn't delay distribution too much, as I'll be keeping signups open through mid-week or so, and it will take me a day to arrange the tree structure...by then we'll have figured out the source to use....
Again, please refrain from flaming me for this bit of a fiasco setting this thing up, it's the kind of thing that (sensitive soul that I have, I mean am) would inhibit me from attempting it again. And apologies again (big dick that I have, I mean am).

I feel rejuvenated after a weekend there. You as well as all "rusties" should make time and budget a trip to the BSB. It is worth any effort and money you spend.
Dave Adams, I was able to pick out Albany, then tried to extrapolate to your town, but had just enough haze and interference from Fort Worth's lights to make finding you a bit iffy. From the air when you spot Albany, you look for a large body of water (Possum Kingdom Lake) or at night, a large dark area. Mineral Wells is the next group of lights to the east. don't blink though you just might miss us.;-)
Although Northern California is beautiful Charlie; but as they say... "the grass is always greener on the other side" have you ever taken a drive around Loop 360 in Austin coming in from 281 during the spring? Ain't nothin' like the Texas Hill country in the spring:-)

Stupid Girl has asked me to furnish further details of this Clash of
Titans. Since occasional "Neil is God" remarks seem to surface from time to time, I decided to invite both Neil and God to my dorm room to do battle. Available to USA rusties via Pay Per View, the match was shown three days ago on HBO. Despite their busy schedules, each accepted my invitation and faced off in several mini-competitions, the results of which determined an overall winner. Here's how they stacked up against each other:
Creator of the Universe: God First to use HDCD technology: Neil Influence on 20th century thought:Neil Supernatural powers: God More wars fought on his behalf: God More zookeepers killed: Neil Most whimsical and unpredictable: Neil Underrated by today's youth: Neil Collaborations with Pearl Jam: Neil Collaborations with Bob Dylan: God More worshippers worldwide: God Works in mysterious ways: (tie) Has appeared in many forms: Neil Better publicists: God Inspired an XTC song: God Inspired a Lynrd Skynrd song: Neil Better Live Performer: Neil Takes Requests: God Promises Eternal Life: God "Gonna Rock Forever" Neil Most sons born out of wedlock: (tie) Worshippers seek the holy grail: God Worshippers seek OTB on CD: God Popularized walking on water: God Popularized Landing on Water: Neil "doesn't play dice w/the universe:God Doesn't play Vampire Blues: (tie) Shakey has all his tapes: Neil Sinners take his name in vain: God Fans listen to Archives Be Damned:Neil
As you can see, the mini-competitions left the two worthy combatants more or less tied (my OTB typo notwithstanding). Please help break the tie by submitting a tie-breaker category along with your choice for the winner.

Re: Rust list demographics (nnc)
What are you talking about?! You can have the spines facing out either way! And it HAS to be left to right! Unbeleivable!

FamilyJules Yeah, sure, if you want to see the BACK of the cover...
I solved this question with an unorthodox solution; I just got hid of all the jewel cases. Yeah, I've thrown away literally thousands of empty cd-cases into the trash-bin, and store my cds at "caselogic"-like cases (100 to 156 cds per case, along with front and back covers). When I decided to adopt that system (when I first moved from my parents house to my own appartment, and needed all the space I could save), I filled 4 or 5 huge cardboxes with about 2000 empty cases. I considered selling them for couple bucks, but the prospect of interacting with folks interested in buying hundreds of empty cd-cases (who those people could be? post-modern artists looking for raw material?) made me not do it, and I just called the garbage men who happily took them away. I organize my cds by style (6 grand divisions: rock/pop, jazz/blues, classical, brasilian music, techno, world music; and a 7th additional "misc." for the unclassifiable stuff) and, within the style, alphabetically/chronologically by artist or group; I always use the first letter of the first word of the name of the artist or group (Neil would go on the "Rock M-N" case, if he did not have his own separate cases, one for the official releases and two others for the boots). Compilations (like "The Greatest Polka Disc Ever!" or "Best of Swahali Music") go separate, also alphabetically arranged. When I first started storing that way, I always skipped one cd-spot for each one I occupied, that way I could double my collection withouth having to reallocate the cds. So far (8 years) it has worked (now I own 3307 cds - and counting), although I did have to add an extra case occasionally, after I started trading. As for the box-sets and cds with digipack or unusual package, I store them separate, the old way, left to right, alphabetically by artist/group regardless of style. It ALL fits in a rather compact wardrobe (6" x 2.5") next to my sound system. Finally, I recently started using a software program (Music Label 2001) to keep track of all info within my discs. This software allows me to include info about all tracks on a given album and all the artists playing/singing in it, who's the composer etc., so using the software's search engine, I can check, say, all the appearances of a song in my collection (example: "Like a Hurricane" gives me 22 results, 3 are cover songs by other artists and the rest are NY performances) or all the albums/tracks a given artist plays (or contributes a composition) besides his own releases, et cetera. It took me a couple months to insert all data (I did it while listening to the many boots I received, so it was not entirely lost time) but now, it's virtually impossible to me not to find a particular disc or song in my collection. Well, I guess that *definitively* proves I'm an anorak guy right? (figuratively speaking of course - I would sweat to death using one of those here in Rio these days). Fabio Yes I'm Passionate

Re: Celebrity Lookalikes (NNC)
I've been told many times (since I was a teenager, actually, and sometimes by people in the street I didn't even know) that I look like an "young Mick Jagger" (not too young anymore these days though, now that i'm thirty-something I guess i'm beginning to look like Keith Richards). I don't *think* I look like Mick (or Keith ;-), but so many people have said it that there must be something there... I've also been compared a couple times to the singer from Aerosmith (Whats-his-name Tyler) and to Bon Jovi (!). I don't have any self-pic on-line for you to judge for yourselves, but I have a couple at my pc, if anyone's interested...

ps: Mick visited Rio de Janeiro the year before I was born (1969)... I wonder... I guess I have to talk to mum (she was pretty wild back then!)

Hey, here's a question for the Rust Crew, why is it not possible to access the 'members' link at the rustlist site? I am subscribed to many other groups at yahoo and I always check the members list, were it's possible to (a) have a general idea of who the members are - their average age, genre, nationality, etc. and (b) check info on a specific member. If the members link was 'open', whe could include more information there and it could work as a 'database', for the "rusted hearts" thing and also for more general research on who the 'Average Rustie' is. (Yeah, I know there is the 'handle's owners' info at hyperrust, but not everyone has a handle or had the trouble to go there and register).
Speaking of that, I think it would be very interesting to have a more well-grounded idea of who we rusties are. For instance, *exactly* how many here are from the US, Canada, Europe, other countries? Perhaps it could be checked by the e-mail addresses termination (.com are generally from the US, .uk from Britain, .de germany, .br Brazil, and so on). I know I'm not the only brasilian rustie here - there are half a dozen others, mostly lurking - but is there anyone from other south-american country? Anyone from Asia, Middle East, Africa?
How's the age distribution (how many are under 18, in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, more than 60?) Who's the oldest rustie? who's the youngest? How many are digesters, realtimers, web-based? What's the proportion of girls x guys? (obviously, for those statistics to work, all or most rusties should register their basic information somewhere, for the Rust Crew to check them).
Another interesting research that the rust crew could do if they have enough time in their hands is to prepare some statistics on the posting frequency, say, since the list moved to yahoogroups about an year ago. You could check how many registered rusties (out of about 2800) effectively have posted here in the last year, and how many are total lurkers (I would guess that only 20% or less rusties are posting on a regular basis, as it seems to be the average at other lists). Also, it would be fun to know who are the 'top 10' or 'top 50' posters; what's the proportion of NNC posts against NC posts; how many posts the average rustie posts each year, etc. We could be in for some surprises, comparing our assumptions againt the real numbers. I'm not sure if that is a viable idea, but if it is, others could suggest additional statistics besides the ones I suggested.

where has she been anyway. i miss her witty remarks on the list. I've heard Stupid Girl is pregnant. Apparently, it's a new book, we'll certainly hear from him pronto, when/if it hits the bookstands. Him? Yeah man, sorry to burst your bubble, but Stupid Girl is actually a guy (it's a long story...). Apparently he does not use the "Stupid Girl" handle anymore - which is a pity, I think it's a great handle, and funnier in many wicked ways because it's used by a man - and no, for all I know he's not gay, although I wouldn't swear on it ;-) He also posts here (but mostly at HH) as bob_young_the_writer or something like that, among other aliases. He's one of the 'love him or loathe him', politically-incorrect rusties (there are others... but I shall not tell). He wrote and published a very interesting and enjoyable novel called "One of the Guys", I read it after I 'met' him here (I was interested to see how a novel written by 'that funny Stupid Girl guy' could 'sound' like, surprisingly it's written in a very different style then his usual posts - or at least that's my opinion). We've been waiting for his 2nd novel since (the second is always the toughest, so I'm told), but it has not seen the light of day yet. I guess it will be published in July, along with the Archives. I enjoy his ramblings at the list too - some are quite hilarious, although a bit too aggressive for the thin-skinned, when he forgets to take his medication - and I have been trashed by some here, in the past, for defending his posts (or rather his right to post them), when he was banned from the list - twice! - during Lybrand's administration days. I should conceed though that imo he goes a little too 'over the top' sometimes, even for my broad, liberal taste, but hey that's the way s/he is... Fabio Yes I'm Passionate
