Worst ever Show

If anyone has it and wants to do a b/p or trade for
Neil's 02-24-1985, Athletic Park, Wellington, New
Zealand show, please email me. Here's how Frank
Sampedro describes it in Shakey:

"We had our all-time worst show in Wellington, New
Zealand." says Poncho. "Billy played all the wrong
changes two songs in a row. He played Old Man during
Heart of Gold and vice versa. Never landed on the
right notes, never came close."

Interestingly, when I looked this up in the Sugar
Mountain database, those two songs aren't played in
the order Pancho describes. So maybe he's referring
to a different show.

I have that show and was amused to read Poncho's comments as I was also at
the concert. (Neil's first visit to NZ) I actually thought the concert was a
good one. Everybody seemed to function properly! Anyway gave the show a
listen after reading those comments and there doesn't seem to be much wrong
with Billy's playing on the 2 songs. Must be Poncho's memory that's a bit
muddled here.

best imo is "Trouble Is."

For shows, I think the "In Concert" radio show from '99 of his
performance at The House of Blues is best just because of the
perfect sound quality.

Artwork or not? 31/10/96 VCD

Will Kearney

Hello friends

I recieved a copy of the excellent 31/10/96 2 VCD from someone called Peter. I promised him some artwork for it when I eventually made it. I deleted his address somehow and can't recall his surname.

So calling Peter and whoever else wants some artwork for the GIG if it doesn't exist already somewhere else.

Take it easy.

I've read (in a recent Scientific American article) that
if America could cut down it's meat consumption by just 10
percent, that the freed up land that now is dedicated to
feeding animals could feed the rest of the world. I cannot
substantiate that statistic, but it's a common argument
used for calling for a reduction in meat consumption. My
opinion is that the argument has merit.

Breast cancer causes <NNC> healing beams needed

OK I just HAD to speak out on this issue, I know this is a music list, yadha
yadha and so on but having been all too involved in breast cancer studies and
seeing one too many loved ones suffer, and die, I went to the college of hard
knocks and learned ALL I could learn on the topic. There are many studies
that can point to common causes and links, abortions, organic food, low water
tables, left or right handed and so on. The only proven fact is genetic, and
the fact that breast cancer can and DOES often kill. Many people assume it
doesn't!

** MEN YOU TOO CAN GET BREAST CANCER**

Been there done that and doing it again.
If someone wants more info, mail off the list please.
Self check monthly...MEN TOO!
Thanks for your time and this space.
Health to all and healing beams to all who need it.

Neil Young and Family Farms..............PRICELESS

A chick at the Claim booth said she would take it back stage for me.....don't know if it made it back or not.....next year, we're folding it up in the backpack.

BIG shopping day tomorrow!!

Randall

DAMN! Quite a bit of stuff coming out tomorrow, from the Ryan Adams and new Peter Gabriel cds, to True Romance ( new 2 disc dvd), Beavis and Butthead 2 dvd set (HELL YEAH), Hard Day's Night, and some dvd called Rust Never Sleeps.
Circuit City did not have Rust in their sales ad, unless I missed it, but if you look it up on their website, it shows a price of $15.99, $4 cheaper than Best Buy's price, so I hope the CC near me actually stocks it!!
Whatta shame my birthday isn't until mid-November!

Kenny Wayne Shephard

Edward Shepard

Hello rustaholics

Another thing about FA - Kenny Wayne Shepherd (sp.?) sounded brilliant - his mini set with Double Trouble made far more of an impact on me than Neil's set - not to put Neil's set down, either - But it was my first time hearing Double Trouble live, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd at all. I love Steve Ray Vaugn's music, and it was a massive thrill to hear "Texas Flood" from Double Trouble itself, masterfully, beautifully rendered - and when Voodoo Child came pouring out over the crowd - the experience was electric, immediate, absolutely moving. Really, my girlfriend and I sat there chocking back tears from it all. Mostly from the flood of the music itself - but also from the remembrance of Steve Ray & Jimi Hendrix - their sad absence from this world...

I was hoping & praying that maybe, by some bizarre chance, Neil & Double Trouble would play together for some insanely deep renditions of Dangerbird & F***ing up & Down by the River & Too Far Gone... tho I knew it was probably never going to happen.

Any suggestions about Kenny Wayne Shepherd? Albums, shows, etc?

Ed

Finally going to see the legend himself...NNC

Well, it took me long enough, but I finally purchased tickets on Friday to
see THE legend...Mr. Robert Allan Zimmerman...aka Bob Dylan...At the First
Union Center in Philly...After years of saying "he'll be back next year, I'll
wait..." I finally heard Mick singing in my head: "well, this could be the
last time..." So I went for it. Went to the Wiz in Brick NJ around 3 pm
after school...The Ticket God graced me with Section 102, Row 17, seats
1-4...That's the FLOOR baby! And best part, four tickets only cost $210
dollars...Bob is the man, still!

I haven't been this excited about a concert in a long time!

Have a good one,

1350 miles to FA & back

Edward Shepard

Finally back from Farm Aid. Drove 1350 miles there and back w/ my
girlfriend. Like others have written, we were also quite unhappy about
the food choices there. And don't get me started about the beer
choices! Seriously, many of the "big" shows I've been to recently at
least offered a veggie burger - and many brands of veggie burger have
at least some organic ingredients. Blah blah blah.

To hear Neil talk sincerely about organic agriculture as a means to a
healthy planet with healthy family farms does make a difference to me.
It strengthens my resolve to try and do what I think is the "right
thing." And "Neil's dissertation" included a reference to the fact that
organic food is expensive, but still worth trying. Worth trying, at
least.

Ed

Someone saying something, no one seems to listen...

Re: san francisco and organic foods

I don't know of any studies which indicate a 'definite' correlation to
anything regarding the Breast Cancer rate. Or for that matter that the
abortion rates are higher in the Bay area than say Northern New Jersey.
There are many possible factors. Including and not limited to flawed
methodology of the initial study. Or flawed analysis of the results.
One possible factor is the high level of education in the Bay area
population. The higher the education level the more likely early
medical treatment is sought. Earlier detection results in larger
numbers of known sick people.

There are studies that can pinpoint the definite correlation between
abortions had and breast cancer. If a woman is genetically prone to
breast cancer and has had an abortion or two or three there is a very
high chance of her developing breast cancer and the more abortions a
woman has had the higher the likelihood of developing breast cancer.
That may be the reason why so many women in San Francisco are
suffering from breast cancer.

Grovel: VCD's

Hi
Just got a DVD player and only have 3 to watch (Neil's '86, Rock Am Ring, and the TV comp). If you have any VCD's by anybody and want to trade, let me know. You can see my CDR list on the bureau next to my bed, or better yet, e-mail me and I'll send it to you.
Thanks,
Stuart

Re: san francisco and organic foods

Hi,

this might come a surprise to some (I know it did to me) but organic
produce can be cheaper than regular produce. Whole Foods (an organic
supermarket chain) is now often cheaper on certain items than
Safeway and not that much more expensive on others.

no one can deny the fact that it is hard to become an organic
farmer. on the other hand, as great an event as FA is - raising
money for those in need - farmers are still struggling and as hard
as it is to become an organic farmer, remaining in conventional
farming does not seem to work either. not just in the US but
worldwide. so maybe it is time for a change. and it probably needs
to start with us. the more we buy organic, the easier it will be to
farm organic.
