I've been off of the list since before xmas and just recently got back on. Not the usual traffic and seeing some references to Yahoo Groups.
What's the skinny? Has the list moved to Yahoo?
Thanks,
Ger :-)

EYEWITNESS NEWS..(nnc..not quite yet..)
FLORIDA FELONS IN PHOENIX FRACAS associated press by Larry Tate PHOENIX,AZ.(AP) Two men who held up a south Phoenix bank yesterday afternoon are believed to be two fugitives from Florida, according to Phoenix police department officials.Brew County National Bank was held up at approximately 1:45 pm on tuesday by two men who demanded, oddly enough, only $30,000 from the teller, Jill Seagraves, after strolling into the bank lobby dressed as women.Seagraves, who required medical attention after fainting upon the suspects rapid departure from the bank, located at the corner of 5th and Vermouth, told police officers that the men were extremely polite and even charming as they demanded $30,000 in fives and even wept as she relayed her version of the ordeal. "The big fella was kinda keepin' the other fella under control, as far as i could tell..," recounted Seagraves,a divorced mother of fifteen."The littlest one said to give him the money, that he was goin' to buy a car. That's when the big fella squoze his throat and kinda shut him down.." Arizona Highway Patrol were alerted and assured citizens that the fugitives would be abducted by nightfall."We have every major highway covered and roadblocks and helicopters and dogs and teevee and the National Guard and the ABI and Dick Van Dyke and Lee Marvin's widow and all kinda stuff out there lookin' to apprehend these criminals!", said AHP Captain John Gabriel."I'd rather my sister have a Afghani baby than to be one of those two when our boys catch up with 'em.." Meanwhile,Interpol agent Tom Therme told assorted media gathered at Van Dykes' compound outside of Phoenix that his men had located the two men and were currently monitoring their whereabouts and conversation via a NASA BFM-666 directional microphone, which can pick up dialogue in a fleeing vehicle from approximately 15 miles. "At this point in the investigation, taking into consideration the complete and utter failure of every law enforcement agency at every level between here and Hump County,Florida, my superiors have given me the greenlight to monitor the whereabouts and conversation between the two suspects and determine an appropiate solution to this ongoing dilemna that, if you pardon my french, has been "slower than the smoke comin' off a turd on a frosty mornin'.." Brew County officials had no comment other than to report the imminent arrival of a Dr. Ed Bugliosi from Florida who originally examined one of the fugitives hours after his arrest.A spokesman for Bugliosi, wishing to remain anonymous, told reporters that working for Bugliosi was "like bein' in the goddamn navy!" "Every mornin' he comes in, he makes us line up in formation..", said the source.."then he says, like clockwork,.."skin 'em back and look fer cheese, milk 'em down and stand at ease.." "then he kinda gazes out the winda like he's some kinda sea captain, fondles his pipe and ...well, if ye ever fondled yer pipe, you know how painful that can be.." The California Highway Patrol has set up roadblocks at strategic locations at press time.

They're saying that the band NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE has NO stage presence?
Neil's not Mick Jagger but the man sure has no trouble holding the audiences' attention...

Well, I hope you get all the knicks and knacks out...that usually happens anywhere you go..like moving from one server company to another server company. I usually get grumpy, too. You get comfortable with one aspect and get turned off with another. Good luck, David!! Seems like you need some quiet time to adjust!!! We'll hang in here with Neil Young!!! I still prefer Topica...sorry that their system was not up to par. I would have thought that the lady behind it all at Topica would have straightened it all out for us. Hope you start ffeeling better later, man!!! Later, David.

AOTW - Also In Defense of Welfare Mothers

To quote (or paraphrase) the tremendous Jack Black from Tenacious D: "Don't confuse the singer with the song. Yeah, up on stage, I'm the shit, I'm Zeus, I'm Elvis...but back here, I'm just Jack." I thought this was the worst song I ever heard when I first caught ear of it, but it contains a line which is one of my favorites:
"People pick up on what I'm putting down now"
Neil does a lot of putting down, so I love that line. Although with this song, I really didn't "pick up" on what he is putting down!? As someone suggested, people who troll for the bottom of the barrel women at gross venues like the laundromat? I don't know, any thoughts?
Geoff,
Yes, that was me with the doves.

Jazz & Heritage Fest in N.O. (nnc)
Hello All.
I first went to the Jazz & Heritage Fest in New Orleans in 1983 and have been 2 or 3 times since. I believe that going to see any 'larger' name act is not the best focus for a few reasons ... the arrangement is not conducive to larger acts due to set lengths, the crowds, the sound, etc ... .
The J&H Fest is like a good gumbo ... it is the subtleties, the mix of many flavors ... most of the special ingredients are small in quantity but the overall flavor wouldn't be the same without them.
It is the unknown music/musicians there that are these special ingredients. Probably the most diverse assortment of music styles assembled in one place. It is too bad that the crowds are now so large, but it is still a musical and cultural experience to be experienced at least once by all true music lovers.
Peace, david.

Re: Getting screwed on Rust
Someone wrote: Is there anything that you can do about being screwed on Rust? I mailed out a disc 6-8 weeks ago and haven't had any reponse, I've tried everything to get a hold of this individual and they seem to have disappeared. is there some sort of Black List where I can post his name and adress so that others do not get screwed (unless he moves)? Preferably a list that all trading lists (Rust, Human Highway, Lee Shore, etc) can see? I'd hate for another fan to be screwed by tihs individual. Six to eight weeks ago? Sounds like you don't know really when you sent it. What are you out, one cd-r and postage? Was it a blank for someone to burn? Was it a cd-r with a show on it? Lots of things can happen and for some 6-8 weeks is not that long of time. Is the person still posting on the list? Does he seem to be active? There are many steps one should consider before posting a name to any of the lists you mentioned as being a bad trader. TETANUS SHOT

re: "I was online at 10:00A.M. order my tickets and the best I could get was Section 112 Row 7. Screwed. 10 minutes later Floor 1 row 28 was available. What gives. Do you think I have a chance to do better on Sunday? Are there certain groups of seats available for the pre-sale or are all of the seats available until 3:00 P.M. on Friday? Are all the rest on sale on Sunday to the general public? I would like to here from some of the other people who purchased tickets from previous presale."
The key is to keep looking. Look at the seating chart before you start. Get an idea what sections/rows you would be thrilled to sit in & start hunting. Throw back everything that does not meet your requirements. Hit "back" to go back to the "order tickets" page & keep pulling, as fast as possible. For the first half hour, anything goes: some of the people who pulled front row might screw up their credit card order & the tickets go back in the pool. After I pulled my single in row 4 & completed the purchase, I went back in to hunt for a pair for my buddies. I pulled up crap six times in a row and then up comes row 5.
And if you don;t get what you want, do try again on the public onsale date as not all of the sections are made available on presale day.

Thanks again; Rust on yahoo now has cool colours too
I know David and others are probably up to their eyeballs fixing the Yahoo switch.
I just wanted to thank him / them all for making it work and (somehow) even toning down the background colour on the Rust website to more restful salmon (rusty) pink and sepia tones. Very tasteful!
Cheers,
Nick (open up the tired eyes) Birch

Left for Dead wrote
Has Neil ever used a tambourine in any of his songs? I love the sound of a tambourine sometimes, but don't recall ever hearing it in a Neil Young tune. Crazy Moon replies When me and Mrs Crazy Moon went and saw the broken arrow tour in Irvine Ca. at the meadows, one of the things that stuck out in my mind was on Slip Away the fellow that was doing the tambourine kept his hands straight out in front of him as he was playing for such along time at least 10 minutes or longer (ha! the things one remembers), the guy never put his hands down by his side though the whole song. Let's go back!!! David needs to be in tune just like us and we take him for granted and I will follow him anywhere he roams, as I stated before. David, I don't care for yahoogroups because they seem sooo cold from the Mellencamp site. Topica was warm and felt like us!! I think we listened too much to the likes of the crowd and got messed up...

AOTW--In defense of Welfare Mothers
Welfare Mothers still ranks as one of the, hmm, rankest songs in Neil's catalog. For me anyway. It's a novelty tune; ok for a listen or two, but not much more. I always took WM, from the first time I heard RNS, to be from the perspective of some guy we were supposed to be kinda creeped out by, the kind of guy who hangs around laundromats and such looking for divorcees, a disaffected, drunken, unemployed dude--we've all know this guy. He's a real sleaze (Moe, perhaps, back from the boardwalk? Maybe Moe's pleasure cruise--with the plenty of women, plenty of booze--never panned out so he's gone sniffin' around the laundromats?). I never took it to be Neil's own impression of women on welfare. On the Weld tour, WM sharpened the picture. On that version, the character singing the song--and I emphasize "character" as opposed to Neil--seems to me the same guy who's singing "Fucking Up." The lines in FU about "broken dishes all over the floor" and "keys left hangin' in the swingin' door" feel like the beginning of the screaming rant that rages on during the long jam of the Weld version of WM. This is a pissed off guy with little to hope for, little respect for himself or anyone else, and little self-control. WM is one of my favorite Neil songs, and it exemplifies one of my favorite Neil qualities--the ability to get inside a character's head and the courage to sing from inside of there regardless of whoever might think he's sexist, insensitive, too nationalistic, whatever. His work is full of that kind of stuff. He's the Dennis Hopper of Rock and Roll, at times like this anyway. And WM flat-out rocks, too! Nic
