If this is actually another complaint about the size of the digests on Topica, I'm now beginning to get dismay over the slower larger digests like I used to get over the faster smaller ones on Topica. Most folks who stuck around seem to have grown to appreciate the smaller digests that let digesters keep up to date closer to "real time" while still reducing their mail by a factor of 10. As a "digester", my opinion is that big digests are better than no digests at all, which is where we were heading in the last weeks on Topica. Good move, David

If Beamer's wife gets a patent on "Let's Roll", it would be ridiculous! I guess she would get royalties on GW's speech last night because he told us, "Let's roll!" (Joni's words now): "Innocence is drowned in anarchy" when Beamer's wife wants to do things like this. I think it time that everybody looks what's going down.

YAHOO Groups - Too Many Ads
Well, I for one am real sorry this list moved off Topica. I switched to web only access a long time ago and Topica's web access was great. Yahoo Groups web access sucks. Everytime I've tried to read a message I got a FULL PAGE ad and I have to click again to get to the message. This will probably keep me from reading and posting much. While I haven't posted much in a while, I did catch up on the list now and then. It'll take twice as long to wade through the ads on YG.

If I was only to mention one song from this record, it'd have to be the "wake the hell up and listen, boy" sound of the incredible "Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)". It was a COLD early morning. I was really feeling like crap. All of a sudden, the lame MOR song that was on had ended, and that sinister intro came on, and I knew I needed to buy a copy of it. Again, no matter how many times I hear this, I can still remember when I first heard it, and the feeling is there. I don't know what it is, but it's deep, people :) I had heard "Heart Of Gold" and I thought it was a really cool song, with that lonely sounding harmonica, but it was the last track from "Rust Never Sleeps" that got me hooked for good. Of course I now absolutely love "Powderfinger" too. I'm so glad I got into Neil's music so that I could hear this great song, among many many others. -George PRISONER OF ROCK 'N' ROLL (especially Hey Hey My My)

Re: Rant about Year of the Horse review
From the Associate editor of IFC Rant re my letter to the editor below: From: Erin Torneo <erin@...> To: Northern Man <nyitalianm@...> Subject: Re: Rant about Year of the Horse review Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 13:56:27 -0500
Dear Ray:
Thank you very much for your letter. We will be publishing it in the May/June issue of ifcRANT. Please keep in touch and "rant back" whenever you like.
We always like to hear from our readers.
Regards, Erin Torneo Associate Editor, ifcRANT
From: "Northern Man" <nyitalianm@...> Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 13:14:48 -0500 To: ranteditor@... Subject: Rant about Year of the Horse review
To the editor: I am compelled to "Rant" back at you after reading Brandon Judell's butchering of Year of the Horse (p. 16 of Jan/Feb 2002). Judell shows his musical ignorance--Young and Crazy Horse are the best live band I have ever seen in terms of sheer musical intensity and pure rock and roll, and the songs featured in the movie are in fact some of his best. They don't have to dress up and prance around the stage to have stage presence. Maybe Judell should catch a show--it might change his mind. Young is the most influential singer-songwriter since Dylan and he is still writing and playing in his prime. His hypnotic guitar playing gets better with age. And it's a good film also. Jarmusch makes excellent use of different film stocks and camera angles and gives the live scenes an interesting look. This review is extremely misleading and unfair. You have a pretty good paper but this is embarassingly bad. Ray C.

Yahoo!!! Nice job Re*ac*tor. Many thanks for the smooth transition.
I was eating lunch earlier with an old friend and we talked about why it is CSN and not SCN, NSC, CNS, SNC, or NCS. David Crosby always says that CSN is the only way it sounds right. My friend then joked that he always thought that they were listed in the order of greatest substance abuse. But, CSNY doesn't fit that theory. I think it would have to be CSYN.
Rust on,
CTK

Citezen Cane Jr. Blues Offer Closed (Also Question regarding this set)
The offer is closed for this Bottom Line show. Thanks to those who sent me info on this set, as usual I am too lazy too seek it out myself. But, now that I do have some info on this set, I have a question about it that I asked someone off list about, and he referred me to the wisdom of the greater community...
Is "Citizen Kane Jr. Blues" just a working title for Pushed it Over the End? I guess it was since he struggled to come up for a name for the song just before he performed it. I was just curious because I did not know the real name of this song until today. Also, was that Italian single release a studio recording? Was it with a full band?
Thanks,
Geoff
Yes, that was me with the doves.

I don't think the Beamer family has much chance of getting a patent on this lets roll thing. When i was in Viet Nam some one would say ;lets roll; i would say lets stay no one seems to be bothering us here, my father in law who is a chef makes great lasagna if you want some you have to help with the meat balls so he would say; lets roll;, my wife once said to me lets roll she went into the bathroom and put on something sexy i got my bowling ball and started warming up the car, that was a rough night=year etc.-. tom

Looking for Marshall Tucker - shows (NNC)
Hi Rusties. I've spend some time now, looking up on Etree and on Tapercities to find some Marshall Tucker Band-shows. Without any success so far. I traced some shows, but the owners were not interested in a trade. So I thought it's about time to ask my fellow Rusties. Does any-one have a Marshall Tucker band-show? Are you willing to trade to Europe? I'm especially looking for the original band line-up (early shows), but any show is welcome. Here's my list :
Thanks.

Kaare Bursell wrote: I said the Rust List should go to Yahoo before David moved it to Topica - and I am sure glad he has finally done it - I haven't read a topica list for over a year, it was such a pain in the rear Topica has only been a regular "pain in the rear" for the last couple of months. A year ago it was running fine on Topica. Even less than six months ago it was running fine on Topica other than an occasional day off for "maintenance". Sounds to me like you were letting some mysterious prejudice against Topica keep you away from the community... Now the digesters won't get any "breaking news" for over twice as long. The larger digests are actually easier on me, but I feel the pain of those digesters who are now disappointed with the change. Neil is goin to hunk heaven because of you Rusties
Yesterday I was driving in my car to go to work and I heard on Q107(Toronto's biggest rock station) that Neil Young was beating George Clooney in in a contest on that station on who the biggest hunk is. I just had to laugh because I knew it was because of rusties that Neil was winning. So today I went online and voted for Neil over Tom Cruise so go out and vote on www.q107.com and help put Neil in hunk heaven. Live music is better, Tim

Ray, Northern Man wrote of an IFC YOTH review : I've never read anything so harsh as this against Neil. Why don't some of us rant back at IFC? Yeah, something like-- "So, you watch one movie and you think you can get the essence of CH. You artsy fartsy types think you can understand 30 years of insanity by watching one movie." Then send the same message to them 3 or 4 times. Bruce Devney gotta keep the machinery goin'

Well, I hate to say it, but I am going to anyway - I said the Rust List should go to Yahoo before David moved it to Topica - and I am sure glad he has finally done it - I haven't read a topica list for over a year, it was such a pain in the rear- so glad the List is on Yahoo and I will be perusing the pearls of wisdom and information in the days ahead -and no doubt we will have the usual share of spats:) Field of Time
