Unable to reach my Flex radio via my raspberry pi 4B and Tailscale via my network. Wi-Fi connection is fine
I have never run into this situation whereby I can only communicate with my Flex 6500 via my Raspberry Pi 4B on my Wi-Fi connection using tailscale. ?I am unable to reach the radio using my wired network.
I have tried several pc¡¯s connected to my wired network running both windows 10 and 11 with no success. ?All of my Wi-Fi devices (iPhone, iPad, Wi-Fi connected laptop) ?communicate with the radio with no problem. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Bob, KN4HH? |
is the FLEX on your network? Try running AngryIP * or some network mapping program, some routers can show you active IP addresses others do not.?
ping in the command (terminal) box works as well. PC or RPI... Among other things you could have a bad cable, port, switch, even the FLEX itself... Let's wring out the hardware 1st. * free download at:? Regards, Larry W8LM |
Many thanks, Larry, for your helpful suggestions.? The Pi properly shows up on my Tailscale machine inventory and it does show up on my network as well as the Flex.? It appears to be a windows 11 issue.? I can see the station dashboard on all my Windows 10 PC's but not on the Windows 11 PC's. I will continue to look at that issue and report back. Again, many thanks Bob, KN4HH

Many thanks, Larry, for your helpful suggestions.Don't ask me about windows 11... My favorite machine is still running Windows 7, all though I do have 2 windows 10's -one dedicated for ham radio and every time I go digital with it, I have to reload drivers.? With Vista- W8,W10 initial problems, and W11.. I've had it not going to Windows11.. I have 2 chrome books I converted to Linux Mint.. Not bad performance-- for a $55 machine.. Copies FLDIGI and WSJT-X just fine.. You can't buy a RPI for $55 letalone a keyboard, pointing tablet, and excellent display for $55.. I'm going full Linux in future builds.. My server is running Windows Home Server 2011..been working great for 10 years...The ASUS motherboard has lost 2 USB ports and the Network connection all on the same header stack, but I plugged in wireless USB network dongle and I back in action I have 2 TB mirrored on my server and 4Tb USB backup. Plus I also have 2Tb on my W10ham CPU I can also back up to there.? I also have a NEW (Christmas) FT-991a and Raspberry PI400. Need to get more antennas up to put that into full service.? Try resetting your home router so it has the opportunity to rebuild its routing table.? You may, just as a good practice, restart all your other home or LAN devices at the same time if possible.? Such problems often happen because one device gets turned off and later back on, or stays on while another device gets reset.? Essentially, device1 may have no knowledge that device2 has a different or changed IP (or other networking config parameter such as an authentication token) which expired.? This may or may not be what happened in this case, but surely it was working before, so starting with a clean state will allow all devices to have a new discovery of all other devices.? Good luck. And if this doesn¡¯t fix it, write back because the results are another clue which will prompt other questions.? »å²¹±¹±ð¡ On Sun, Oct 9, 2022 at 8:04 PM Bob Watson via <kn4hhptc=[email protected]> wrote: I have never run into this situation whereby I can only communicate with my Flex 6500 via my Raspberry Pi 4B on my Wi-Fi connection using tailscale.? Also, make sure the Win11 machines have Network Discovery turned ON.? Although it should retain the previous setting, it may have assumed your LAN is not the same one it used to be.? This may be a Windows security issue.? »å²¹±¹±ð¡ On Tue, Oct 11, 2022 at 9:57 AM Bob Watson via <kn4hhptc=[email protected]> wrote:

One thing I do for home based networks id to configure Windows Firewall to ACCEPT all protocols IN and OUT. Since the LAN is protected by the router, there is little danger of hacking that could occur because of adopting this practice.? »å²¹±¹±ð¡? That is NOT a good practice.
I see MANY attempts per day trying to hack on my internal devices that aren't detected and stopped by the router firewall.? And I have it set to high security.
