It is the OpenRepeater software.

Project page for OpenRepeater, a low cost amateur radio repeater controller based on single board computers like the Raspberry Pi.

WHY? ---

For about 15 years now hams have been using Raspberry PI's with software for ALLSTAR?? I run 2 Vertex VRX 7000 repeaters with RPI2's .... they have been on the air for over 7 years.. Now one of them is on ALLSTAR linked with about 40 or more nodes worldwide.. the other has no internet connection what so ever and just is used like an plain old 1980's type repeater.

This software lends itself to hot spots, simplex nodes or full duplex repeaters.. I have the same software running on my hotspot, my simplex node and 2 repeaters. I also have 6 hot spots I have built for blind hams in my club..

There are alot of can-to's to connect weather service, play special messages, autopatch, reverse autopatch..

I'm just guessing, but hamviop.org and it's software probably has 10,000 users.. Since there is not 10,000 repeaters in amateur radio service I doubt OPEN REPEATER? has the same following..

Raspberry pi's lend themselves to repeater applications and as I can attest, I use Raspberry Pi 2's. I also use RPI3's and 3B's in my hot spots.. and I have a PI ZERO 2W I'm going to build one of these days..

Ask around and 2's & 3's can be found used, from those wanting 4's and 5's.. The only 4 I have is a? RPI400 that is tied to my Yaesu FT-991A.. and does a great job on digital..

I bought a RPI 2 somewhere, for $30 mailed to me.. just to have a spare... The 2 has no wifi.. but 10baseT eithernet.

more info here:

I am planning 2 more repeaters by Christmas,? as soon as I complete the tower. Both of those repeaters will have hamviop software, all though one will be a non linked GMRS.. but I may as ALLSTAR allows .. let the GMRS repeater monitor ham radio repeater..

I'm sure ever ham will bitch about that.. however the communications privact act of 1999 states only AM-FM broadcast and Amateur radio can be divulged,

I have to agree with WHY - this has NOTHING to do with the original post!

And to add to the confusion, and to some degree, Allstar and HAMVoIP are two different systems. There is more out there, and has been, more than just those two.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.

The OpenRepeater folks don't seem to be very responsive though I am continuing with that avenue.

The issue is...? for the life of me I cannot get the timeout feature to work.

If the COS signal is active for longer than the set timeout nothing happens.

The PTT line stays keyed and the repeater repeating.

Otherwise I am happy with how everything else is working but the non-working timeout is a deal breaker.

Any help or direction is most appreciated.

Thanks for the info.

Allstar is an option but we like some of the features of OpenRepeater.

I will look into Allstar a little further.

Hello Bill,

With this being the issue, it be helpful to know what you are using for a repeater.

You may also want to ask the question at the svxlink at groups.io? /g/svxlink

It has nothing to do with the repeater, (which is an MTR-2000).

In testing the software we found that the GPIO output that controls the PTT line never unkeys if the COS signal is held active longer than the set timeout period.

Everything else seems to works as it should.

Thanks, I'll check out that SXVLINK group.

Hi Gregg,

You conf file example helped me figure it out.

Apparently, the web interface in NOT updating the TIMEOUT value in the port setup.

I manually edited the file and set the timeout to 15, saved and rebooted.

Sure enough, the controller timed-out and the PTT line dropped after 15 seconds.

After playing around and testing with different values the timeout does work as expected if you manually edit the config file.

Now to look at the PHP/JS scripts to see why the timeout value isn't saved from the web interface.

So anyway, the TIMEOUT is now set to 150 seconds (2-1/2 minutes) and working great.

I appreciate you and everyone else that took the time to answer my plea for help.

Hey Bill,

Glad we could help.

There are also a bunch of .tcl files associated with the PHP web stuff.

They are located in /usr/share/svxlink under events.d and modules.d

I seem to remember having a similar problem with web settings not getting saved.?

There is an openrepeater forum located at:
