Re: Raspi, Icom 7200 and GPS, cannot make this combination work

Sebastien

Thank you very much Kevin for this finding regarding the USBAUTO=¡±false¡±.
It fixes exactly my problem with my Pi4, GPS dongle ublox7 and IC-7300 & 7100 radios for CAT control.

Indeed I dont understand why gpsd attach pps1 and pps2 to /dev/ttyUSB0 and 1 (which overrides the CP210x UARTS in the? ICOM ).

Re: Raspberry Pi4 with display

Here is the Python3 script that I am running on my Pi4. Just install Python3 with libraries and add a line in your crontab so the file runs at boot. Don't forget to enable i2c in rasbpi-config.

Re: Backup when Booting from SSD

How much do you need to backup?? Specific content and you'd just reinstall, or do you want to be able to do a bare metal recovery it stops booting from the SSD?? Simplest is do a full disk duplication (dd) of the SSD.? You'll have to do this with it UNMOUNTED, which means boot pi from another device, or power down, connect the SSD to another system and run dd from there.? If you want to save specific folders and directories, an rsync script or one of the suggestions in the thread will do.? I'd include /boot (capture boot-specific options), /etc (lots of config files), /home and /usr.?

What I'd consider is do a full image periodically by whichever means you prefer.? More frequent incremental backups of directories where you are adding content you do not want to lose.? The incrementals can be run as file or rsync copies from a live system, so the only interruptions are disk and maybe network access if you are backing up to storage on another system.? I'd also backup a basic bootable system to an SDcard and keep it handy just in case.

Re: Backup when Booting from SSD

I've been very happy with Deja Dup for my Ubuntu installation.

Rather than back up your whole disk, have you considered just backing up your /home? and /usr directories?? In case of disk failure (or something) install a new fresh copy of Raspian and then restore /home and /usr from your backup.

I have one of those ice tower coolers. Set my Pi4 up over locked to 2.1ghz and let it crunch seti@home before they finally ended the project. CPU never got more than 5 deg C over room temp Lol

I added a small fan to my Pi4's that were only a few dollars each. The fan is inside the case so you don't see anything but the grill for the fan. They all stay nice and cool.

There's no SD card involved - booting directly from SSD.

I am afraid of commercial programs that don't have pricing on their Web sites ... (g)

Unless they have an educator discount, Bacula may not be the solution for my meager?
requirements. Sent them a "Quotation" inquiry - will fond out what hobbyists / educators?
need to pay for their product.

I suggest power down your pi, remove sd card to a Windows machine and use SDformater??to create an .img file.

Re: RasPi zero 2 W

Charles KK4AC

Dave Slotter, W3DJS has a software compendium for the Raspberry pi called HamPI. It includes WSJT-X an well as many more ham related programs. It will run on the RPI ? 2 W... ?? His followers have a group on groups.io that is very active.. Ham-pi...
His HamPI release 2.0 has a version of WSJT-X that has a bug, if you load an SD card with Ham-PI... your can run the update to get the latest WSJT-X that includes the fix..
All of this info is expanded at the groups.io forum..

I just got a RPI ? 2 W Friday from www.Pishop.us along with 2 RPI pico's... Fun for the next blizzard.

Larry W8LM..

RasPi zero 2 W

A very surprising little guy!? Fldigi works properly with a few tweeks on the alsamixer.? Run your USB cable from the Signalink to a port on your multiple USB adapter and you are on. I didn't check on FT8 because I need to find FT8 software.? Also, for you Arduino folks, the zero 2 W works like a charm with it.? To get Arduino just do the following from the terminal:

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo apt-get install arduino

After a few minutes, the Arduino shortcut appears on your monitor. I have so far used several canned programs from the Arduino book and they have all worked as shown in the Arduino book.? Use the examples folder for the canned programs.? I am using a 5 V, 3 A power supply, a 10 inch HDMI monitor and a generic keyboard and wired mouse.? Power to the Arduino UNO is a 9 V, 1 A supply. Happily, the Arduino UNO has a voltage regulator to provide 5 V and
3.3 V.? As you might not know, the zero 2 W has a faster and more efficient processor. The zero 2 W is so small a visitor may wonder where it is but it does the job. Put it in a small generic box and it will get lost on your bench like mine, best 73, KK4AC, Charles

Re: Proper pi9k6 configuration for AX.25 and PAT

I was able to get it to finally work.? I had the volume up too high for the TNC to decode the packets and that was causing the bad CRCs.? Thank you for your help

Re: Proper pi9k6 configuration for AX.25 and PAT

It looks like I had a bad flexible window passthrough cable that was shorting.? I replaced it and now the TNC is receiving but it still seems to be unable to decode the data with a bad CRC.

Tonight or this weekend I will test each TNC in standalone mode and see what happens
