Don, If your talking about the Raspbian GUI, I don't do anything for that, and don't support it.? Everything is done though the web based admin pages. The PiGate is a setup and forget type device.? Once you do the initial setup, you can leave it alone and it will run continuously for however long you wish.? The only purpose is to send email to a Winlink RMS server, and you send and receive email for yourself by using an external email client.? Emergency email is sent for others through the web page designed for sending emergency email.? There is never a need to access it vie SSH or VNC or anything else. Chuck, I referred to using the DD or Balena to make an image on the SD based on Dave¡¯s ReadMe Text that I downloaded. No matter if you are a Windows, Mac os Linux user, go to and download and install Balena Etcher. This is the easiest program I can suggest to use. 1. Start Balena Etcher. 2. Click on Select Image and select the downloaded HamPi_v1.0.img.xz file. ? ?(If you got HamPi in a tar file, you'll need to extract the files from the tar archive first.) 3. Click on Select Drive and select your 16GB or larger (micro)SD card. 4. Click on Flash! After several minutes, the flashing process will finish, and you can eject the (micro)SD card and insert it into your Raspberry Pi and power it up. By?image he is certainly referring to his logo image of the ham He may be referring to more because he discussed the image on the 16 gig SD card filling the space or using a 32 gig card and the process automatically expanding to fill the larger card. ?He did a interview with Dave Casler on YouTube the day before he released HamPi 1.0 73 de KEoZUW ?John |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks ¨C my ¡°adjustments¡± were (as you said) mostly things that were already done. And believe me they are minimal.? BUT I will say the more I touch the Linux commands the more I am learning (at least short term) about how this is set up and it works. ? One thing I did notice in the image last night though was that when it first came up with the basic colors, the menu options on the left (Settings, Home, etc.) were not visible at all (compared to your video #1).? I changed the colors and it was because the text is on the ¡°bar¡± beneath the button object and not on the button itself. ??I had a HDML 10.7¡± monitor on the PI and was VNC¡¯d into the PI and both instances reflected the same so it wasn¡¯t (apparently) resolution in the monitor.? I just left the changed colors but I¡¯m wondering if that is adjustable as well? ? Don, W4GFQ ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Mark Griffith via groups.io

I would not mess with the settings in any of the files on the PiGate image.? They are all there specifically to work with the TNC-Pi2 or TNC-Pi9k6 and if you make changes, it may not work.? I also wouldn't mess with any of the OS parameters, like turning the serial ports on or off.? Everything is setup correctly and it's really a plug and play image.? All you need to do is the initial setup outlined in detail in the docs. ? If you have made changes, and you don't remember how to put them back exactly as before, just copy a new image to the SD card. ? Mark KD0QYN ? ? ? I traced the error (I LOVE GOOGLE!) to the AX25 director and AXPorts.? Turned off the TNC line rebooted and got parameters ¨C so it is still there LOL.? BUT I did find the TNC line and went ¨C hmm bet that would help! ? So now I¡¯m off to read up on the AXPorts file and how to set that up. ? Slowly but surely I¡¯m going to win this skirmish. ? The TNC-Pi9k6 appears on the serial port as a KISS TNC modem.? Only software that "speaks" the KISS protocol can us it.? That would be one of the packet software suites, like Pat, linbpq, PiGate, APRS, etc. ? Use one of those programs to unlock the "secrets" of the TNC. ? Mark KD0QYN ? ? But my question becomes ¨C now what? ? I can¡¯t find any references to how it gets configured, what software to use, how to use it, etc.? I have put the KM4ACK Build a Pi on a card and have pieces of it working, but frankly I don¡¯t know (or can¡¯t find?) enough information on how to connect APRS (for example) to the TNC board.? I tried to list serial ports on the board and get nothing back (as in there are no serial ports?) But I have serial ports enabled. ? At this point I¡¯m looking for how I could connect YAAC (for example) from the PI and set up a serial connection to the TNC in an attempt to get an APRS signal to a radio and audio back. ? Also from your comment the Teensy board is loaded, how to I look at those directories to see that software from the RPI interface? I¡¯m assuming the TNC talks to the Pi to permit viewing those directories somehow? ? As you can see I¡¯m relatively lost. ? Don, W4GFQ ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Mat Murdock ? Depending on which board you purchase the appropriate firmware is pre loaded.? For instance if you get a TNC configured with the Raspberry PI headers then it has firmware loaded to interact with the PI using the GPIO pins set aside for serial communications (19200 baud btw).? If you get the "stand alone" TNC then the firmware loaded is for that specific configuration. |
