Syncal 2000 PRM4790 synth schematic anyone?
2
Trying to fix a Syncal 2000 that has 'Err 5' when it switches on, it's a synth fault, caused by in my case the 10.9MHZ TCXO giving out no 10.9MHZ. I've removed it, fed 10.9MHZ from a sig generator, but still get ERR 5 , unfortunately the schematic I have for the synth section isn't like the actual PCB. The board is marked 713954 and 754875 ISS 1 if anyone has the relevant schematic that is for that PCB, i'd be most grateful, the DC voltages are all correct, I need to trace where the 10.9MHz goes after coming out of the TCXO, on the schematic I have it shows it going to to two 100pf caps, then off to ML11 and ML2 as REF A and REF B, but I cannot see those on my PCB!. And before anyone asks, NO DO NOT WANT TO SELL IT, I fully intend to get it running for my own use. Tony

Racal PRM.4021
Hi, All, Is anyone parting with a Racal PRM.4021, ideally with at least a battery pack and a gooseneck? I'd be interested in a purchase, exchange for other radio equipment, or even to "rent" for six months against a deposit. I'd also be interested in one which is incomplete or irretrievably broken, if externally cosmetically nice. Bob

RA1792 receiver
5
I recently obtained a RA1792 receiver for next to nothing. Physically its in good condition and I've gone through the routine of replacing a number of tantalum capacitors and now all voltages are up and running with nice white noise coming out of the speaker. Then on to the A6A2 microprocessor board which was fortunately undamaged. Nevertheless I cleaned it and replaced the old NiCad battery with a new NiMH one. All connection have been checked multiple times. Still, However, I get a display of either all zeros or a string of random digits/characters. I pretty sure that the A6A2 board is OK. So at this point I was stumped. Until I disconnected the A6A2 micro board and tried booting up again. I expected just all zeros but was surprised to find that the results are exactly the same as with the A6A2 connected, i.e. sometimes all zeros and sometimes random numbers/characters. Is it possible that the fault could actually lie on the A6 or A9 front panel boards themselves? and disable the microprocessor? Has anyone had any experience of this and where to start looking? Thanks Carly

Hi, does anyone knows about this VCO/DRO
Hi , I got this ,what looks a dual VCO/DRO, no idea about the input voltage range, but it change the VCO frequency like if it where a dial...! It has a V.TUNE pin , which I thought is precisely for that, change the frequency but it doesn't when inject voltage on it, but for some reason it makes changes like in the VCO origen, it is likely will change the VCO frequency when boot or start the device, but just an impression, really no idea. VCO os something like from 1800 to 2100 ,maybe more but Im scared to inject more voltage, I dont want damage it. Also I can power the DRO pin, which activate the DRO clock around 8Ghz, but I don't know if I can inject voltage to both, VCO and DRO simultaneously. Also I don't know if DRO is phase locked with the VCO, I don't think so, but no idea. I would thank any info that helps to use it better and safer. It is a nice device. I ask here because I think probably it was in some Racal equipment as Radio Satellite, Signal Generator... Thanks

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the MA4232 charger, part of the 4230/4231 high speed morse set up? I've been working to fix some MA4230 units and the charger seems to turn itself off on some of them. Fully charged maybe? My manual for the 4230/4231 set up mentions the 4232 but has no information on it. Thanks, Dan ac6ao / g3ncr

Racal Cougar Battery Pinouts
23
Dear fellow radio amateurs, I am the owner of about 6 x PRM4515L¡¯s which have been refurbed and repaired. I¡¯m also fortunate enough to own a handbag programmer, 3 battery conditioner chargers, ECUs and SMTs alike however the one thing I¡¯m surprisingly short of is batteries. I have a few primary cells that are unissued and a handful of secondary Nicads. Problem is that of the 5 or so secondary cells that I¡¯ve tried to disassemble to re¡¯cell have always just crumbled. Most of the time they are also potted and a nightmare to break out. I know that the internals have a diode and a thermistor however the wiring is super complicated for something so very simple. Does anyone have a correct schematic and values of the diode and thermistor as good clean secondary cells are very, very hard to come by. Many thanks, kind regards, De Spence M0STO
