Re: PRM 4740 (Caracal) info required please

Chris Lumsden

Hi Tony.
?
Yes, the receiver works on both noise & tone squelch, so it works with normal radios fine.? Tunes in 25kHz steps only.?
Sorry, I have no handbooks for it !
?
Cheers, Chris.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the reply, I have printed it off to take when I go and see
the guy with the radio next week.
My intention is to use it primarily on 4m as there are quite a few
people on 70mhz locally.
I take it that the radio will only program in 25khz steps, i.e.
70.400,70.425,70.450 etc.
Our local 6m repeater uses 50.790, so it may be no good for this.
Do you know if the receiver will unmute without the 150hz tone being
present? some mil radio's will not unmute, so obviously talking to
people who don't have a mil set is a no-go.
Cheers for the information, hopefully I will buy the set, assuming it
works!!, if anyone has a service manual kicking around, I would
appreciate a copy just in case.

best regards
Tony

program split frequencies for each channel if you like. First, select
PR and select the channel you wish to program. Press the PTT button
(momentarily), and the LCD display should clear. Enter the first digit
using the channel knob. Press PTT to advance after each digit is
entered. After the last digit is entered, & PTT pressed, the Receive
freq for the channel is programmed. Repeat the same process for the
Tx freq using PTR. Thats it.

repeater working.
