Hi Tony.
?
I own a couple of Racal PRM 4720 VHF sets which are very similar to the Caracal, minus the hopping.
?
Easy to program.? On the Volume control knob, there are two positions, PR & PTR.
These are to program the Receive & Transmit freqs.? You can program split frequencies for each channel if you like. First, select PR and select the channel you wish to program. Press the PTT button (momentarily), and the LCD display should clear. Enter the first digit using the channel knob. Press PTT to advance after each digit is entered. After the last digit is entered, & PTT pressed, the Receive freq for the channel is programmed.? Repeat the same process for the Tx freq using PTR.? Thats it.
?
I have used my PRM 4720 radios many times on the 6m band with success.
After I turned down the 150Hz Tx tone deviation to minimum, I can
access the 6m repeaters here very well. The radio is well suited for repeater working.
The tone adjustment involves opening the radio & adjusting a pot.
But try it on your local 6m repeaters over there first before doing this. Perhaps the Australian repeaters act differently to yours.
?
Cheers, Chris.

Hi
Just looking to aquire a PRM4740 Caracal, anyone have any info on the
thing before I spend my hard earned?
I
understand that programming can be done from the channel selector
switch, what exactly is the procedure, I want to try it before I buy it.

Tony
