Sad News

wini18us <[email protected]>

I hate writing messages like this, but I do have some sad news to
report. Mary Jo Wolford, longtime member of SAI, former director of
Camarillo chapter, former bass of the Velvetones, a Region 11
championship quartet has passed away. She suffered a massive stroke
years ago and has been an inspiration to her friends getting around
Simi Valley on her motorized wheelchair with a smile for everyone.

The funeral is this Wednesday (1-8-03) at 2:00pm at the Methodist
Church, Erringer Rd. and Cochran Avenue, here in Simi Valley.

We will miss her.................

Update on Jessica Motzkus

Friends,

Jenny & Roger Motzkus asked that this be posted on the Region 11 News

12/26/02

To our many Sweet Adeline Friends,

We have been asked by so many people to please keep them informed
about our daughter's heart surgery, so I am writing this note.

We met with her surgeon, Dr. Starnes, at Children's Hospital of LA
in Hollywood on Thurs, Dec 19th. On that day her oxygen level had
dropped to 83% where it had been in the high 90's since birth up to
her last reading just a week before. Given her heart disease,
Tetralolgy of Fallot, this drop was not really alarming to anyone but
us, as parents, who had been planning to take her to Utah with our
boys for the Holidays. Well, we decided NOT to go to Salt Lake for
the holidays because at such high elevation it was too risky for
Jessica. So we've just enjoyed our first California Christmas.

Her decreased oxygen level does create a concern to act quickly, so
her surgery is scheduled for Monday, Jan 6th with pre-op things
happening on the 31st and the 3rd. The surgery will take about 3
hours. She'll be in the ICU for 2-3 days and the hospital for a
total of 5-7 days.

She looks good and seems just fine still, although she is sleeping a
bit more than usual probably due to tiring out quicker with less
oxygenation. She is so adorable! If you want to see recent photos of
3 mo. old Jessica and our fun "Christmas card" photo from all our
kids go to this link and click on the ones you want to see.

www.motzkusart.com\personal.htm

We are so grateful for your interest, your words of encouragement,
and most of all your prayers on Jessica's behalf. We know she will
be in God's care throughout the surgery and recovery. We will keep
you posted after the 6th.

Much love,

Jenny & Roger Motzkus

?
Thank you.

?
Team Coordinators and Presidents,

Our chorus has grown an amazing amount this year and we need to buy new
risers.? We are considering the "Harmony" riser made by SICO.? We will need
the 5 sections of the 4 step with the back rail.

?It would be so helpful to us if anyone has these risers now or has used
them in the past to give us your opinion or any information you might have
about them.? How long did they last? Did you ever need service? Were they
easy to move around? Who was your distributor?? What kind of guarantee did
you get?? Any problems? Would you buy them again?
If you are not the riser expert in your chorus, please feel free to forward
this message to the correct person.

We are kind of in a time crunch because we would like to get them right
away, so if you could let me know with an email in a day or two, I would
really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for your assistance, and Happy Holidays.

Jean Barford/F-W Seminar

Marcia Bosma

Some people have been asking me how to contact Jean Barford to thank her for
her wonderful classes this weekend.

Jean doesn't do e-mail, but you can snail-mail a note to her at:
Jean Barford
8002 Quail Hollow Ct.
West Chester, OH 45069

I will also be sending Jean a summary of all the comments I received
regarding her classes, so if you haven't turned in your pink evaluation form
yet, please fax it to me at 818-980-6303 --- or you can e-mail your comments
about the seminar and/or specific classes to me at VHBari@... or you can
use the e-dress from this message if you wish (although I don't check this
one as regularly as the aol one.)

Thanks for being willing to spend the weekend before Thanksgiving away from
home. Jean had a wonderful time meeting all of you and she was very
impressed with the level of commitment and ability Region 11 exhibited at
the seminar.

See you in March.

Fall/Winter and Bakersfield

Wow that was a good weekend. Just a reminder to all who attended and to those who didn't.....I have videos of all of Jeans classes as well as Laura Pallas/Patti Gomeztrejo - The healthy voice. I think the Large shots of Laura's lovely vocal cords and how they work well be something to share with all our singers. I also taped Jean Barfords class "Physical, visual and vocal energy". This one wasn't on the order form this weekend, I can't understand how I missed it, however I do have it available for purchase. I also have "The aging voice" with Dede Nibler. The tapes are $10 each or $15 if you order after December 9th.

I can email you the form if you are interested. dndriley@... (this is my new email address) I am also still at driley3155@... but this will be closing out in the near future.

Thanks for a wonderful, educational and fun weekend. Weren't those Young Women in Harmony outstanding? Oh to be able to sing like that at 13 and 14.

Fall/Winter Seminar

Friends,

I just wanted to publicly thank Marcia Bosma for persuading the
amazing Jean Barford to teach at our Fall/Winter Seminar. She was
most excellent! I learned exploding, louder is wider and what the
judges want.

And The Healthy Voice presentation was great. Wow, when one muscles a
tone, one *really* does muscle the tone!

Region 11 is so very lucky to have such a great RMT. We're solvent,
well organized and we have incredibly valuable seminars. Thanks to
all of you.

Re: [Region11] chorus dues

Don't faint ... but Channelaire pays approx. $2,600 per month in rent for our own facility. We've been in for nearly 2 years.

Our dues are $20 a month, but that does NOT include regional or International dues.

We cover the rent with paid performances, fundraisers, and grants.

Debbie Curtis

chorus dues

Hi everyone -

Our wonderful church where we have rehearsed for many years has raised our rent, and our Team will meet next week to discuss possibilities, e.g. moving (you know how difficult that is), or raising member dues (or not).

We now pay $100 per month rent (going to $200), and member dues are $ 19 per month (which includes int'l, regional, and chapter).

When we present our recommendation (whatever it will be) to the chorus membership, we'd like to assure them that we're "in the ballpark" when compared to other choruses.

Would you all mind letting me know how much your chapter pays for rent (if you do), and what your member dues are per month?

Thanks,

Susie Cox, Team Coord.

Trial scoring - only 4 spaces left!

Greetings!

If you were considering signing up for Trial Scoring at Fall/Winter --
now's the time! We have only 4 slots left for this great educational
opportunity on Friday night in Bakersfield.

As a trial scorer you'll have the opportunity to learn about a
category, sit in the judge's seat (well, up front) at the novice
quartet contest writing score sheets, and have the opportunity to
compare your sheets with the "real" judge's after the contest. All
your work is your own and you can share as much or as little as you
feel comfortable sharing.

If you're interested in one of the last few slots to trial score,
please send me an e-mail ASAP to laderman@.... Be sure to
include your name, chorus, e-mail address, and the category you'd like
to judge.

First-come, first-served, so sign up today!

Region 11 Logo

Friends,

I logged on to the Region 11 website to look for some info and saw
the Region 11 logo. Does anyone else think it looks old and tired?
Is this a good forum to generate excitement to develop a new logo?
Is the RMT willing to talk about desiging a new one? A contest?

I have NO artistic talent. I just know what I like and I'm not sure I
like our logo anymore. :-(

But I *do* know I like the Region 11 website. Excellent job, Debbie.
You deserve those kudos and more. All our marketing/graphic/
presentation stuff looks great. Keep up the good work.

My two cents.

See you in Nashville!

Re: [Region11] Region 11 Logo

Marcia Bosma

Actually, we did have a logo contest a few years ago and nobody submitted
anything. I can only speak for myself, but I'd love to have a logo that is
more modern. But we need you artistic folks out there to come up with
something that depicts the region in a modern way. I'm confident that the
RMT would be open to a new logo if someone submitted something awesome.
