Re: Epson P5370

But the command for some reason had to be InstallP5300=P900.command. For some reason this printer only shows as a P5300. Then I cut and pasted all the quads into the P5300 file folder, too, and they showed up fine. Chris, thank you very much for this detail. I tried multiple time to install the p5370 with the InstallP5370=P900 before returning to this group to find what I was doing wrong. No problem at all once I changed the command to InstallP5300=P900.

Re: QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.exe
I only used only 16 Lab values, which apparently isn't enough for an icc. I couldn't find any documentation regarding a minimum. On Sun, Mar 9, 2025 at 2:00?PM Roy Harrington via <roy=[email protected]> wrote: Show us the Spyder output. |
QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.exe
I use QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.exe to create icc's for soft proofing my alt process prints, and have been doing so for many years. After I do a calibration, I make a calibrated negative with a step table that goes from 0 to 255 in steps of 5 RGB units (0, 5, 10, ... 255). I measure the print with a Spyder and then drag the Spyder output file onto the QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.exe, which creates the icc profile. This has always worked and has given me very reliable soft proofs for cyanotype, vandyke, and kallitype.

Today, I printed a color step table, not with a digital negative, but rather with my inkjet printer. I wanted to see if I could make an icc profile that I could use to simulate printing color separations.
I measured the print with my Spyder and dragged the Spyder output file onto QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.exe. The QTR-Create output file shows that the L values linear, but the A and B values are all zero!?

Re: Setting up P900 for Direct to Plate methods using QTR
开云体育From what I can tell, ?platen gap isn’t all that critical - the plates and carriers are well below that thickness - 1.1mm I think. I believe this is just there in case the media is curled slightly and it prevents accidental head strikes. I think the more critical thing is to define the media thickness relatively accurately.?

Re: P800 - Only Black Inks Laying Down
开云体育Why do you think it is only laying down black inks? Do the negs look different from before? The color inks in the profile are minuscule and only there to make sure some ink is going down all the lines in order to prevent clogs. They would not show up as any color as mixing those together in relatively equal amounts will produce a gray tone.

Re: P800 - Only Black Inks Laying Down
I agree that permissions is a likely suspect.
By far the easiest and best way to repair permissions is to simply re-run the Install-QTR package. This automatically corrects all the permissions in the /Library/Printers/QTR/Quadtone folders (fixes both folders and .quad files). Roy |
Re: P800 - Only Black Inks Laying Down
开云体育FWIW, when I run into stuff like this, I nuke (delete) all the .quad files for a particular printer in /Library/Printers/QTR/Quadtone and then do some spring cleaning in my installation folder to get rid of .quad files with names like P8xx-last-desperate-attempt-77.quad before double clicking the install command again. It sounds to me like there may be some cruft in the files in the /Library folders for this printer. You can delete these .quad files and they will re-installHope this helps. Clay

Re: P800 - Only Black Inks Laying Down
开云体育Did you check EVERY SINGLE folder in this order for read/write? /Library Printers QTR Quadtone quadP800-QTP or whatever you call it. Every single one. Last time I updated I had to read write every single folder. Because I “think” (but I’m not Roy) the Print-Tool is not accessing your profiles for some reason and printing an unprofiled neg even if the profile shows up in your dropdown menu. Other than that I have no clue but this has happened to me at least four times on 4 different computers with three different printers ad nauseam. Chris ? Christina Z.
