Re: inkseparation8.tif is monochrome...

You need to print it to the QTR printer you've set up, and it needs to be NOT color-managed, and the QTR print options need to be set to "Calibration mode" (that's why it says Print In Calibration Mode at the top of the file). If you're on a Mac, Print-Tool does a good job of allowing you to print without color management.
is a description of how to do this, though the images of the print dialogs are out of date.

inkseparation8.tif is monochrome...

Hi,

I use QTR 2.8.2 on a Mac Studio and EPSON P800 printer.? I do both digital inkjet prints and gum bichromate prints.? So far I have been using Photoshop along with custom curve to make digital negatives for my gum printing.? Now I want to use QTR to make my digital negatives.? I wanted to print an ink pattern page to check UV blocking capability.? I find that the inkseparation8.tif in my QuadToneRIP/Images does not have the actual colors..? Please see below.? How do I get a proper inkseparation image for my P800?

Appreciate help in resolving this...

Regards,
Ramesh

For Intel machines you probably can go there too.
But Mojave OS 10.14.6 is what I stopped at for Intel - MacBook Pro (2019).
You still get to run 32-bit programs which may be useful.

Print-Tool and QTR should run fine on any of these.

Re: New (old) Mac

I wasn’t able to make any prints from photoshop and Print Tool on an Epson 3880 without the print settings defaulting when I hit print. I learned about a work around where I can save a preset in Preview (opening any random document) and save it there then I can open a photo in Photoshop and print using the preset. Very strange way around it, but it worked.

It would help to know what problems you are trying to overcome. I ask because I've been using Mac Studios since they came out. I'm on OS 15.3. The only issue so far is Apple's screw-up saving presets, but that's just an inconvenience as far as I'm concerned. I print using PrintTool, Piezography and color inks with a 3880 and a P6000.

With the exception of the one caveat I mentioned, everything is working just fine. Boutwell's software and the i1Pro 3 spectrophotometer are also working without issues, FWIW.

HTH if I can.

Roy's right, I was using P908 to print, not P900.?

Re: P900 and P908 Questions

Thank you, Roy,
You are likely right about MK. I remember copying some .qidf files from P908 to P900 folders, and may have forgotten how I sent the 51 step files to which printer in Win GUI. I will check when I get home.
?
And ... it is great to know that I can create the .quad files on a Mac and copy them onto the Win folders and get control over full set of 10 inks. I used to something like this on an old 4000, where I had switched out one ink to 3d party violet ink. I probably have .qidf and .quad files still on my computer, along with Lab values that will guide me on choosing the right limits and densities for the 70-100% patches for the eggplant look. I believe I just copy K to drive the V, with small (2 or so) ink limits.

Re: black only!

thank you all for your help!!
i forgot to mention I'm doing photogravure on polymer plate that is the rason I need only matt black!
I did the switch of all the ink for some cleaning liquid instead ( exept for the matt black) and all is working fine so it will be much cheaper now to run this printer!! only 50$ (canadian) for 1 litre of cleaning liquid I should be able to refill 3 time every color !! for me it's a 650$ saving..happy hope this help any one !
?
thank you!!

Re: P900 and P908 Questions

Hi Shilesh

I'm not really convinced you are getting MK but you'll see soon enough.
Anyway the main thing is yes you can use the Mac and use all 10 inks.
Create the .quad files and move them over to Windows.
Make sure you are using 2.8.2 -- look at About and the version of quadtoprinter
Printing will work fine with the 10-ink .quad files. Don't try Curve Create or
the Show Curves with QTRgui. They will both crash.

P900 and P908 Questions

Hello All,
I am hoping to get some guidance on using P900 and P908 on Windows 11 using QTR GUI.
  • Using P900, I have been able to successfully create MK profiles using K, LK, LLK, M and LM?and K only (BO).
  • What is weird is that I used P900 (not P908) to accomplish this, using "matte ink" in drop down menu. This seems contradictory to release notes 2.8.2. I am getting densities in 1.5 to 1.65 on matte papers, so I am confident MK ink is being used.
  • I used the customary curves creation dialog in GUI to define inks, densities, and limits, followed by linearization. I am getting good results.
  • Ideally, I would like to utilize V ink in the deep shadows (70 - 100%) to create an "eggplant" hue in these areas. The hue will not be visually evident in the last 90 to 100%.
  • I understand V ink is not supported for Windows. But according to 2.8.2 Release Notes, I can create full 10 ink curves on a Mac. Can I use these curves on Win GUI? And they would utilize V ink?
  • I am not familiar (at all) using Mac, but I was able to get a retired MacBook Pro (2011 edition) from my niece which has El Capitan (10.11) OS. I figured out how to create and linearize curves in Mac OS (in my mind, not actually done yet). I was able to print the 10 ink calibration page just fine.
So, can this be done? Create curves/profiles on a clunker Mac, but install them in Win 11 and be able to utilize V? Thank you all.

Piezography Pro Inks- UV densities

Hello All,
Does anyone have UV densities (from a UV densitometer) of the Proinks @ 100% on via calibration mode.
thanks!

Re: p5370 quad files

Edited

Hi Chris
?
Glad to hear that you are finding the Epson P5370 a useful printer for use with OHP. My experience with this printer in its previous generations (ie. 4800, 4880 and 4900) is that it does not play well ?with thin OHP sheet film and I eventually used it only with roll film, with which it is very reliable.?

New (old) Mac

Yesterday I bought a 2015 MACbook for running QTR, Epson print driver, QCDN V3, and SpyderPrint. The laptop is running OS 13 (Mojave) and cost me $100 with charger. ?I am hoping this small investment will save me the wasted time and frustration caused by Apple updates and incompatibility issues. I will do all of the QTR curve creation functions on the MacBook, and I will process image files on my Mac Studio and transfer the files to the MacBook via file transfer for printing.
