hello I'm wondering if I can use only black ( matt) with this software I have it since 4-5 years and I love it but now I have a epson 3880 that I only need the black matt ink and replacing al the other can get expensive and the are only there to west? when the printer is doing a head cleaning cycle ... but I can't use the printer if there one color missing $$$ so I wnat just use the black Matt and put all generic fill with cleaning liquid to make the printer think there full... the cleaning fuel is 50$ a litre so I will save a lot of money and never get my head dry.....so my question is can I us only black matt and forget about the other ink that I dont use?? or is there another way to tell the printer to print if it,s missing a color ink!?!?

The said positioning problem with QTR under win10 only arises when using the comma as the system-wide decimal character, as in the majority of the European countries. My tests suggest the following explanation.

If the OS is set to use the decimal 'comma' the QTR GUI can handle the top and left input data (inch or mm units) properly and the preview on screen shows the correct position of the image on the paper sheet, suggesting all is o.k. But when the GUI communicates the input position data to the core of QTR then all units are converted to inches and only the decimal 'point' is accepted internally. As a result the positioning data are truncated to integer multiples of one inch and the image is printed correspondingly (in general differently from the preview).

Therefore, an accurate specified positioning of the image on the paper is only achieved if the system-wide decimal symbol is the decimal point. The size of the image is never affected, because it must not be specified in inches or mm in the GUI.

Hi all. This morning I'm trying to print on a plate in a carrier. The printer seems to be stuck on "receiving data". This is the first time this is happening. Can anyone shed some light?
I tried through the printer's dialog and also through Print Tool. Same issue.

There is a manual workaround that I have used if on a PC using the Main QTR Print Screen.
1- Put the quad file in as if going to print
2- Right click on it and you can see the quad ink curve(s) displayed
3- take down key readings from each ink curve (you may need every 5 units if lots of abrupt changes)
4- Then go to the Curve Creator and create using Curve feature on each ink if not easily produced with the other options
5- Save the qidf file and now you can adjust/tweak if needed

Hi Greg If this "QTR/Profiles/Quad5000 folder/" this is indeed your folder name, the problem is the space in the name -- change the space to _ or - No special characters are allowed in folder names, file names and curve names in general. The whole -greg is optional. The key is printer name and the install script have to match. So printer would be QuadP5000 and script InstallP5000.command -- note the "P" is part of the printer name. (btw - P5000 is now supported with its own name so the =4900 extra is unnecessary) Roy

Your digital negative method looks amazingly impressive, though daunting for those of us who have used QTR only in fairly simple ways. It’s been several years since I checked to see what QTR stuff was available online, but 10 years ago I didn’t find the
explanations/instructions too helpful for the uninitiated. :-)

A few years ago I discovered that prints on Kirkland glossy paper looked good when framed and hung in a window so they would be backlit.
The frames were Dollar Store double glass frames (photograph between two pieces of glass, no matting).
I would place a second piece of glossy paper against the back of the print, with the surface facing out or away. The frame was then hung in a window. I assumed that any UV from sunlight or skylight would be absorbed before it made its way to the ink layer.?
During the day the print would mostly be lit from behind, and when it was dark outside the image would be lit by ordinary room lighting. I was surprised at how well this worked in my home.
I no longer have access to Kirkland paper (if it is still made). Epson Premium Luster is a good substitute for everyday printing, but it has watermarks on the back.
Does someone make a similar quality paper without watermarks??
Is anyone using glossy paper as a digital negative (for contact printing in the darkroom)??
I live well off the beaten path, so it’s not easy to have a look at a variety of paper.

Well that's really strange.
A couple more things:
Try it in inches. I think you may have 2 files -- one for mm and one for in.
Combinations are good: each file with both mm and in.
Measurement of the box size as well as position printed would also be good.
Send the tif files to me, too.

The P5000 uses the 4900 ppd so ad the appropriate =4900.command into the command file name and it will work

When printing the blocking density test, I found that the blocking density (which is patch 20) is considerably less than the default ink load.

In this case, the following is adviced by Richard Boutwell :
If you find the blocking density is considerably less than the default ink load (a value of 30, for example) you might not want to lower it too much lower than the default setting because it might make it harder to linearize given that the lower overall ink load is too low throughout the whole scale—especially the mid tones. If this is the case, you should just rely on the linearization function to correct for the increased contrast in the highlights of the print?

If I understand correctly, I should move the "Black Boost" slider so that the "Maximum Black Percentage" value that is shown at the top is 20... But even if I drag the slider to the left hand side , the minimum value of the "Maximum Black Percentage" I get is 25...

Also, I think there are bugs in this dialog.... If I change the process preset in the bottom dropdown, the value of the "Maximum Black Percentage" changes accordingly, also the curves in the graph changes, but the values of the sliders do not change.... Here is a minimum example in which I reproduce a case which was part of the previous post #19313 of mine: I want to print a square of dimension 30x30 mm on a paper sheet of size A4 using the Epson printer R2880 such that the upper left corner of the square is located at 100 mm from the upper border and 100 mm from the left border of the paper. ?
Figure 1 shows the QTR settings I have used and? figure 2 displays a scan of the page which resulted from printing with these parameters (OS is win10). With a ruler I find the position of the upper left corner of the printed square is located at (76 mm, 76 mm). The deviation from the expected position (100 mm, 100 mm) is much more than the usual tolerance of the paper feed (1-2mm) of this printer. The size of the square is correct.

I obtained the same result when printing on a P900 using the same QTR paper, placement and scale settings. I wonder if this result is reproducible by others.

Your calculations look correct as far as I can see. But there's really no way to help
without seeing what you are actually doing and getting.
You need to start very simple -- one image (send that), place it a fixed place on the paper.
Show the QTRgui page, then the paper with measurements on it (x,y).

I apologize for bothering you again. I just noticed that even the image placement using inches does not work as expected: Take an A4 sheet of size (8.26'' x 11.69'') minus the non-printable borders (on the R2880) of width 0.13'' on each side. This leaves a rectangle of 8.00'' x 11.43''. Take half of that and print two rectangles of 8.00'' x 5.71'' in order to seamlessly fill the printable area. But nope (see figure). Is there a general consensus that it is better create an ICC profile and print from another application?

The short answer is no.

There are just too many variables that do not ride along with the output quad file.
?
The first problem: there is no way to "unlinearize" back to the initial partitions without the measurements being in the comments of the quad file (or not knowing if it had a gray_curve=... applied prior to linearization). And then no way to reverse engineer the gray_highlight/shadow controls because of how different papers might handle the inks loads.
?
But, assuming you could do all that you _might_ be able to recalculate the gray_value= and ink limit settings.
