Thought I would give an update regarding what I've done so far on my Raspberry Pi3b+.
Installed a bog-standard instance of Rasbian Stretch using the most recent NOOBS installer.
Pulled a copy of the source code, installed a couple of DEBs for the Libconfig dependencies.
Installed the Checkinstall DEB.
Built a file for the reflector addresses
Ran make icom (completed without error)
Hacked a config file. As the controller is still sitting in the cardboard box it arrived in I just used dummy data. Not convinced that the file is right or complete.
Ran "checkinstall" with the flag to build the DEB but NOT install it. This step is done instead of running "make install".
The result was a DEB file that I was then able to successfully install using DPKG. SO EASY to build the DEB installer.
The binary didn't execute due to an issue with the config file which I have not yet put time into resolving. To do that I probably should get the controller out of the box and set it up on the LAN.
