40M DX
Hi All, 40M has been open the last couple of nights into Europe and Australia. The noise here in Brisbane has been no more than S1 so it has been a pleasure listening. I have not been able to break

Nice locations in the San Diego area.
For when you northerners qrp ops make it down to San Diego, I'll post notes of locations to visit in/around the San Diego area. Mt Laguna is close enough for a daytrip and there's plenty of exploring

Re: websdr site
This site is very useful indeed. I had recently exchanged emails with Pieter-Tjerk about his work, especially on the SDR design in use here. He utilizes an A/D (samples the entire 30MHz at once) then

Sorry if this is too OT but having spent years looking for remotely accessible stations on the internet that actually work and are useful my search is over. http://www.websdr.org/ I can now use the

Interesting QRP possibility
QRPopsters, I just came across this item on eBay. The guy must still have the stuff as the auction ended without any bidder. I can't help but think that we can do something interesting with

FYBO Notes
Hi All, Nick and I manage to survive the FYBO camping trip to Monte Bello Open Space camp ground on the side of Black Mountain (El. 2600 ft.). The weather was OK going up to the campsite so we manage

Re: FYBO Restitution
Nick, I am glad you were able to make up for the poor WX. Sounds like you found another good radio location. By all means, we should try to get up there since it is so accesible. I listened for you

FYBO Restitution
As restitution for bailing early on FYBO at Monte Bello I decided to get out and operate today before I have to go to a Super Bowl gathering. I went over to Coyote Hills in the East Bay and climbed

Re: The Great Freeze Your Butt Off Adventure
Nick and Dave, Sorry to hear about the bad WX. I got a bad cold and my voice is totally hoarse, so unlikely to make a hike up there. But I would listen for you on 20m CW at home this

Re: The Great Freeze Your Butt Off Adventure
I was watching the wx radar last nigth and saw that nasty stuff at your location. Which antennas are still standing? I can listen 20/40. 20m condx seems to nice.

Re: The Great Freeze Your Butt Off Adventure
We got drenched last night! Antennas fell down in the wind and it was too loud to sleep much. We just had breakfast and are going to play on the radios from our tents for a bit. I have one CW contact

Re: New 20m Vertical
Thanks Nick, Dave The Moxon end-fed idea sounds interesting. I'll call you to setup a sched. We should have a path on 20m during FYBO. Wonder what kind of temps you guys are expecting for

Re: New 20m Vertical
Deon, I am still experimenting with the Moxon 2 element vertical. I off-set fed the thing with a 4:1 balun to try and get the feed point closer to the ground. It is supported by two Jackite 31 ft.

Howdy Folks, It's looking pretty overcast out there. :) If you look just past the campsite on that map you can see the summit of Black Mountain, nice views from up there. The elevation gain from

Hi Deon, That was a moxon that you saw in those pictures. Dave put it up so I'll let him talk about it. He was all over Tasmania and Australia with his 10w 703 that day though. Regarding that
