I have ordered another QMX+ kit. I assume it will be Rev3. I have a Rev 1 front panel board already constructed. Can I use this Rev1 front panel board on a Rev3 main board? Greg, ZL4GW

Hi All I am new to QMX+ digi modes and need some guidance. I have built a QMX+ that works like a charm, but I am struggling to get the audio input level in WSJT-X to 30dB, on some bands it is in th red at 6/7dB. I have the volume in the audio mixer at max and the master volume in Settings --> sounds set to 100. I am running windows version 10 and do not know what else to adjust. Is there another windows setting or do I need to alter somethin on the QMX+. Any advice would be welcome Many thanks Will, M0LGW

I received my QMX+ unit preassembled a few days ago. I just want to use it for CW, be able to hear the sidetone, transmit, receive, use the automated messaging to call CQ. So far I am not getting any sidetone, no transmit that I can detect, my paddle doesn't seem to respond (I'm set to Iambic A). Power is a 12v Bienno, voltage protection is set to 13v. My EFHW shows 1.0 to 1.2 SWR when tested with the RigExpert. Is there a list somewhere that tells "here are the settings you need, to make this thing actually work for CW" ? There are soooo many menu items and I must be doing something terribly wrong. Thank you all. 73 KD8ZM

Hi, has anybody tried the new firmware with VarAC and/or Winlink? Does it work?

I'm happy to report that the Firmware Version 1_01_003 is working well on my radio. Audio receive is excellent, sensitivity as well. Transmit function got the job done. Mic gain is 60 and mic compression set to 10. I just completed first QSO running 2 watts, from my SE PA location to Campbellsville, KY ... about 750 miles. I got a 55 report. Sent a legit 59. The mic was the one from Erik, AD7OV. Though I'm a mostly CW op, I enjoyed the experience and will continue to experiment. Just leaving this here for anyone fault finding Just dealt with my second MS5351M 'subtle failure' in a couple of years First was in a QCX +TCXO where after 20 minutes or so running the Transmitted WSPR tone degraded into wide band noise that amazingly did still include enough of the right signal to get a WSPR report and show the usual power output to the antenna. Several people around the world helpfully pointed the problem out as their spectrum displays were in a mess and I very quickly shut it down ...... A spray of cooler on the 5351 paused the problem. Fixed by replacing the MS5351. Second just now was in my U3S with receiver option (SI5351 board and QRP Labs TCXO) that was starting to emit random audio noise in receive at a high level once warmed up. The CLK1 56.3824 MHz Park /Receive LO carrier in this case was sniffed for but not recognisable on another receiver but a noise spectrum a few KHz wide was filling the vacancy. A quick sense check of removing the BPF, swapping power supplies, moving/cleaning interconnector pins, switches etc did nothing, and the transmit signal (CLK0 14MHz remained pure). Again cooling off the 5351 area restored operation for a few minutes . . and replacing the 5351 oscillator board completely (for convenience) fixed it. (Not dug deeper. As the WSPR TX modulation was always fine and the regulator seemed happy enough I think its the 5351 again. . ) Both radios have been used in 24/7 beacon operation and their only faults so far in 10,000's of hours have been misbehaving MS5351's. So just leaving this note that they can fail subtly, don't assume part working means all working . .

A puzzle resolved? I tried various bands and modes, but I failed to enable my QMX+ Tune SWR function for more than 1 second, far less than this old duffer could work an "antenna tuner" in his best days. Hans, in a You Tube video, shows how that function works in the QMX, continuously keying tx and showing the resulting SWR, for up to 1 minute; sufficient time for this Ol Geezer to "tune er up". Being slow in the head, and getting no better, after a couple of days I "discovered" that with my QMX+ connected to a PC, connected to WSJT, the Tune SWR only keys up my QMX+ for 1 second and does not time out after 1 minute. When WSJT-X is closed, the function works as advertised... Now, happy old dog. Da Ol' Dog/wa4hei

Hello, I have a QMX that is built for 9V. Now I'm making a custom LiFePO4 battery for it. My question is, what's the maximum input voltage that the QMX can handle before it breaks? Given that each LiFePO4 has around 3.55V, if I connect three of them in series, I'll get around 10.65V, is that going to damage the radio? Thanks, Sepehr N6IRN

Has anyone else seen an issue where the receive audio stays on during transmit? I noticed it today. It happened on all bands and when I key the mic the receiver audio doesn’t blank. It’s not receiving but just a hiss like listening to a dead band. Im able to receive fine. I was able to make ssb contacts too. I figured it was my powered speaker but I switched it to my QMX+ and it works fine. Anyone? Don.

After months, even years of thinking I eventually ordered another QRP Labs kit today: a QCX+. I had previously built a QDX Hi Band and am satisfied with it. I followed closely the development of the QMX and thought to buy a 60M to 15M model then followed the development of the QMX+. I read a lot of comments about the problems experienced by some builders and as I'm 80 years old, with bad eyesight and rather shaky hands and considering my former experience to build my QDX then modify its T1 transformer and replace the BS170 I finally thought that such tiny technology was not anymore for me. I will build my 20M QCX+ with dev-board, TCXO and AGC cards. With the dev-board I plan to experiment with internal LiFePo4 batteries, audio amp with speaker and why not do something with the IQ signal ahead of the CW filter to decode in Rx SSB and AM. Another reason for my choice of the QCX+ is that it is very robust and there are no SMD components, only through-hole components, something I have been used to deal with since the year 1959 with my first regenerative receiver built with vacuum tubes then many Heathkit units. 73 - Pierre - FK8IH

I just applied power, 7v, limited to 250ma. I long pressed the left rotor encoder. When power jack is first inserted there is no current. After power is turned on, current is 40ma. The QMX does not mount as a drive in Ubuntu so I cannot install firmware. I am depressed. I had hoped to demonstrate this unit to Scouts in July. What are my next steps? Thanks for your help.
