QDX V3 arrival and build
Five days parcel watching from Turkey to the UK ended with a touching handover ceremony between myself and the Fedex Express guy. The miniature size of the QDX package took me by surprise.? The enclosure being very tidy and 'compact'.
I am just back from the shack after seeing the QDX receive FT-8 from Slovenia (just under 800 miles away) - this on two odd wires snatched from the parts bin.? Will sort out a proper antenna later today and then enable transmit. The build was a six hour joy with only one cock-up.? I initially made a mess of T2, by leaving one set of legs too short.? I worked around this by using some cut down jumper wires (breadboard wires).? This resolved the shortness of the wires and gave additional clearance to the enclosure.? I did add some 'packing tape over T2 and the edge of the PCB in any case.? I was dreading winding the torroids but found it to be a pleasant / cathartic experience (at least until T2).? The instructions were very extensive and clear.? That said, I did need to wake up to follow the T1 instructions but it worked out fine.? As others have said, the instructions are very good.? I did have to use my digital microscope fo read the capacitor values.?? Having heard the concerns about voltage and the impact on finals, I built the transformer (T1) for 9 volts.? I used an eBay power supply kit to provide wiggly amps and started at a very low voltage.? So far I have been up to 8 volts and the QDX seems happy. Whilst I am using a Windows PC for initial tests of the QDX, I plan to use a Pi Zero 2 combined with a tablet running VNC - for remote desktop.? The intention is to run off battery and have a small box to tote into the field. ?73,? Pete. M0WHT |

Pi Zero 2 not Pi 2.
There's only one model of Pi Zero 2 at present and it comes with comes with Wifi as standard. The Pi Zero was available without Wifi as the Pi Zero and the Pi Zero W added Wifi and Bluetooth.

I ordered on the 5th May, so still a bit to wait I think.I ordered on the very morning of May 1 and mine is still mysteriously unshipped.? I've been under the impression that order fulfillment was well beyond that point presently.? So, maybe not.? Hmm.? Odd. ? -- "As Dunning has suggested, the very trouble with ignorance is that it can feel just like expertise." |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMitch? ? ?My QDX V3 order (a kit) went in on the 8th, it shipped on the 21st and arrived in Oregon on the 25th, this might help you with a time frame as to receives vs shipped. I figured about 3-4 weeks and it was early. Note: it shipped from Turkey so depending on your order number ( if a kit or assembled) it could ship tomorrow or in two weeks from now, hang in there FedEx will notify you with a tracking number and estimated delivery day and time. 73¡¯²õ Ed de N7SNT? Rather than a full-blown Linux / Raspberry Pi OS distribution it is more of a Digimode Linux appliance using Pi Zero Hardware.? It is still a work in progress but looks promising. I have tried both this and 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS?on the Pi Zero 2 W and the are plenty peppy.. I have also run the HamPi distribution on the Pi Zero 2 W and works ok although it is only a 32 bit distro, which doesn't take full advantage of the capabilities of the board as it has a 64 bit processor.? From my experience the Pi Zero 2 W is plenty capable, just stay away from the Chromium browser as it is a real memory hog and will completely bog down the board if you fire it up. WSJT-X and FLDIGI seem to fine on the distros that I have tried.? It would be nice to see a 64-bit version of HamPi.? Cheers Michael VE3WMB? |

This gives you the option use one USB port to the rig and a second to a USB GPS dongle or whatever else you might need to connect. Cheers Michael? P.S. I am also patiently waiting on my REV3 QDX. I built my REV1 QDX a few weeks back, played with it for a week and then loaned it to a friend who is now vacationing on the west coast. He is having a ton of fun working DX with this little gem on FT8/FT4. Needless to say, after playing with my REV1 QDX my friend put in an order to QRP Labs for his own QDX ;-)? |
